What's the difference between being bi and pansexual?
I mean, if you're bi then you're attracted to both sexes already. Having pansexual as a label seems pretty redundant imo.

I usually interpret it as being able to be attracted to all gender identities, something that bi doesn't explicitly state.
Supposedly, it's because bi means being attracted to both men and women, while pan means also being attracted to trans* folk, androgynous-presenting people, and other not purely male and female ways of presenting.
That's a pretty sensible division as far as it goes, but on a practical level pan is a reasonably accurate description of every bi person I've ever met, myself included. I don't think anyone who has broad enough tastes that they consider themselves bisexual wouldn't also fall into the definition of pansexual. At the very least, a true bisexual under that definition must be pretty rare.
Personally, I'm as pansexual as it gets, and I prefer bi as a label. Both the term and its associated flag are much more commonly recognized, and I feel like the two are so close that it's pointlessly splitting hairs to have separate terms for them. This is true of a lot of the really specific terms for me. I think there's very little practical purpose for orientation names other than straight, gay, bi, and asexual.
