My best guess is that trans comorbidity with severe social problems can be attributed to three factors. First of these is the difficulty rectifying both male and female patterns of socialization. Most trans people will internalize some of both of these, and these are often contradictory messages.

Secondly, is the often time failure to socialize adequately with same assigned gender peers, and lack of close interaction with opposite assigned peers to the homosociality of childhood and adolescence. This is directly correlated with "cross gender" activity resulting in exclusion and bullying. Social skills are largely something one learns, not something one has innately. With a lack of experience will naturally come a lack of skill.

Third comes the common effects of dysphoria, namely depression, anxiety and discrimination, all of which make it difficult to effectively socially interact.

Autism is more than just poor social skills, it is a pervasive developmental disorder with a certain set of qualities which set it apart from a mere deficiency of social skills. Adult Autism and being MTF actually have a slight negative correlation, if I remember correctly. Basically, MTFs have rates of autism slightly less than cis women, who have less than cis men who in turn have about the same or slightly less than FTMs.

this was an awesome, eloquent and interesting response. thanks girl!!!!

basically this

I suppose I may be an outlier, normally I never have any issues socializing, certainly not the best at it but I've never had a hard time making friends or interacting with people.

The only times I find it incredibly difficult to be around people is when I'm really dysphoric, my anxiety and paranoia goes through the roof and I can't focus on anything else so it's easier to be alone.

As a cis girl, lots and lots of cisgirls have social problems. Even the popular "staceys" can have issues knowing how to behave in normal human society.

I'm trans and I have no problem socialising? When I was boymode, I'd just socialise normally with a little bit of feminine traits in there unintentionally. Although I'm kinda in the trans minority because I don't watch anime or am involved in a computing based career path.

As a cis outsider looking in it seems to me that so many trans people are purely focused on appearance. When they say they feel like a girl or a boy what it often seems what they mean is

I have seen a pretty girl/boy and I wish I looked like that.

In reality your outward appearance comes from how you act, how you speak, how you move, what beliefs you hold, your convictions, your fears, how you breath.

I think it would be beneficial to them if they also thought of their transition as a symbolic one.
If you feel like a woman you should examine what woman really means to you. What are the qualities that makes someone a woman.
Then you should adapt those qualities way before you start dressing like you think you need to and go on hormones.
