What was your original perception of transguys and transpeople in general? I mean, before legbutt lurking or online research and stuff like that. I have to get a referal from my therapist to get T, and I need to make her understand what being trans is without sounding batshit crazy. This woman has absolutely no experience with transpeople or transgenderism and the area is really conservative. Now, I met her yesterday, and tried to make stuff sound sensible, but I have no idea how much she actually understood. She seemed to be open to it all, but I'm worried that I might say the wrong things and ruin stuff. I figure if I can try to see things from her POW I can help ease her into it without her getting a bad impression of trans people from random online info or outdated text books.

Any experiences and stories, especially from conservative people or people from small towns, will be appreciated.

If she's qualified, you shouldn't need to explain things to her. She looks up gender dysphoria in the DSM, she listens to you, see if your symptoms match the diagnostic criteria, that's it.

Yeah... When the school had sex-ed here, the local doctor informed the kids that HIV was a bacterial infection which came from degenerate homosexual lifestyles. Nobody argued with him, not teachers not parents.
This is the level of people I'm working with right now :(

desu i didn't even know the difference between transgender people or transvestites or drag queens. I saw people on TV which were 50 yo men wearing a dress with extreme makeup and thought that was it for quite some time. i just never knew what it even meant at that point. and if i ever met a trans person irl i prolly didn't notice or would think of said drag queen. small town people can be narrow minded and uneducated AF ^^at least i was. moved away from there, got to know a lot of different people and found out i was gay. met a nice trans girl who is now my best friend and she told me a lot about it. the rest i looked up out of general interest. not sure what kind of perception you are looking for but at the time I just had other stuff on my mind and didn't pay attention to the whole topic.

I'm certainly got a lot more open minded to pretty much anything. now it doesn't matter to me if anyone is trans or not.either i like a person for his personality or i don't. doesn't really matter to me what they identify as, that is their business which they have to figure out for themselves. just as it is not of my business with whom someone goes to bed or not. it just doesn't matter. unless i was personally interested in someone, then i might be slightly curious if they like girls or nah. ^^

Hope this helped you out at least a little.
Have a nice day anon.

Conservative small town reporting in. Was raised and taught homos were going to hell and Aids was God's divine plague to scourge sexual deviants and sinners from the Earth.

Went to college, got some perspective, eventually became Agnostic without even understanding what the definition of Agnostic was.

Keep in mind as a devout virgin who went to a private christian school (with a graduating class of about 100 at best) I watched my peers break the commandments on the reg, fuck each other, do drugs, drink, etc. Gay / Trans or not, everyone was a hypocrite (to an extent even myself) save for a select few who really strived to be pure.

In college stumbled on 4chan (near its infancy around 2004 or 2005) and eventually on /d/. Eventually got into futa through shit like Bible Black despite it being so fucking heretical it's not even funny. I'll skip the rest of my sob story about myself but safe to say I crossed the Wizard threshold over a year ago. Partially because I was devout - later because I was bitter that I held on to religion with the faith God would send me someone and it never happened.

Anyways later through some serendipity I fell in with not just one but a small gaggle of MTFs, a lot of whom do porn, want to do professional porn, or just do it on the side for easy dosh. And maybe this has colored my view of MTFs but from that viewpoint, it seems most if not all the MTFs I've come into contact with are extremely oversexualized. Some of them don't do it - some actively reject it (for practical reasons since the HRT tends to kill your dick eventually). But it's a little baffling to me that so many of them embrace the porn.

Cont.

I don't have a lot of time so I will say this: the whole thing seems suicidal to me. Basing your identity on your appearance, knowing that most of these people are starting mones at like 22-24, or even later - this shit is not going to end well. Out of the whole group I've rolled with I'd say there are two or three that are utterly convincing and would pass without a second thought. And maybe it's just me, but after a long enough time looking at trannies, I've learned to spot them pretty well.

The ones who are truly undetectable either started mones early enough, won the genetic lottery and had feminine facial features, or have had work done. Those who started HRT later, or don't put the effort in on the voice, full appearance, everything - sorry but it's just profoundly obvious. Not that I would ever tell them because I respect their decision - it's their life to live and do whatever. Despite all I was taught, I try not to judge.

Like I was saying though: Trannies have the highest instance of suicide across any demographic for a reason. Forget "mental illness" - from a purely logical, practical standpoint, if you base your self worth so heavily on your looks and passing, your looks are going to fade by the time you hit your mid 30s or 40s and you turn into a wrinkly old woman at best, or an aging something-in-between at worst. Go figure IIRC, 40-something is the median lifespan for a Tranny with the leading cause of death as suicide.

So easy for Trannies to shove things in their ass on Chaturbate when they're 22 and people are throwing attention at them left and right. Far different tale when you get into your 30s, the attention fades, and you're left looking at another 30 years that's all downhill, taking the pills, putting on the makeup - struggling to prop up a crumbling edifice. Assuming you're basing your worth on your looks, your self-worth erodes until you're left with nothing, and suicide becomes the preference.

My 2 cents

>What was your original perception of transguys and transpeople in general? I mean, before legbutt lurking or online research and stuff like that.

i grew up as a kid in a conservative society where gay people are cringed and shamed at because they are non-productive members of the society. the life goal and success of life rely on fulfilling the man-woman marriage, having biologically related kids, build a family, and pass on the family name. trans folks are viewed as simply gay people crossdressing. male dressing in female stuff implies being a pervert/fetishist. female dressing in male stuff implies they are acting out, not being timid and refined, and being a poorly behaving wife for future husbands by challenging the male's authority.

on the surface, i have associated transguys as tomboys going to the extreme level of resembling a boy/man even with boobs and curves. they are chill and don't fall into the superfacial hypersexualized "feminine" beauty fad from the media. they wear and prefer adult men's clothing instead of boy's clothing that tomboys are more likely to wear. the transguys will most likely refrain from calling themselves "girls" unlike tomboys/dykes/musculine girls/women who would have no trouble calling themselves as such. transguys will most likely express they are one of the guys more so than a tomboy would and are reluctant to show off their feminine side just like boys/men.

i have perceived them liking women only and in a homophobic society this presentation would be less cringy when a man looking person is being intimate with a girl looking person.

as for transgirls, i was influenced by the media that they are simply guys wanting to get together, married and live happily ever after with the man they have feelings for. since gay men are cringed at this is a compromise trying to fit into the socially acceptable male+female pairing within a homophobic society.

my perception has since been updated but the imprinting remains strong.

and why do you think trannies would be happier being a 30-something balding old man?
