When I was like four years old I told my mom I wanted to be a girl and she snitched on me to my dad. I don't remember what happened, but it probably wasn't pretty. Years later my father flip flops between being accepting of trans people and not being accepting (mostly when Caitlyn Jenner comes up).

I don't know whether my dad fully accepts me, but he does accept that its helping my depression a lot not to repress anymore. Mental illness, addiction, depression, and the like, are pretty much ubiquitous on my dad's side of the family. Both of his parents died due to alcohol related causes, cousin killed himself, etc.
Also, I think as a guy I was uncomfortably feminine, even by gay standards. I make a better girl than I did a guy.

My Dad's manly as fuck, open minded and very intelligent. He is basically Marcus Aurelius. In my local community (Irish Catholics) he is well known and has been Godfather to 12 children. I'll often be in the bar and I hear people I've never met in my life trading anecdotes about my father and his wit and deeds. I was in the pub one day and the topic of Transgenderism came up because of a story in the news. One of the guys, unaware of me, goes "They're just fucking delusional and need to be put in a padded cell." and another man next to him who I've never met went "You know I hear [My Dad]'s daughter is a transexual." and the guy just shut up red-faced. I then introduced myself to the group revealing I was this daughter and they were all very nice and kind to me and buying me drinks. I had a conversation with them about Transgenderism and they were very open and interested in learning about it. The guy who made the 'padded cell' comment apologized extensively and outright said he was wrong.
Without the respect my Dad has in the community I don't think I would have ever been accepted.
