Just started watching Looking, such a light series (if that makes any sense), and the characters are so endearing. I feel like it's an honest look at today's gay men's lives, somewhat in Queer as Folk style (but with less sex and partying). So far I'm loving it.

It did? The Wikipedia page mentions overall positive reviews, what bad things did critics have to say about it? That's so weird, I find it depicts the whole setting as so ordinary and normal, that's what I love about it. It's also in a way what Russel Tovey said, "The only thing I can give to young gay people is that when I was growing up there were no role models that were blokey, that were men. Everybody was flamboyant and camp, and I remember going, 'That's not me, so even though I think I am gay, I don't think I fit into this world.'"

Personally I liked Looking, but I get where its critics didn't like it because even I was irritated at times by the level with which the characters would think with their dicks.

Probably because of how widely popular it was. I cannot tell you the number of times it's come up that I'm gay and been told by a het that "Oh, I saw Brokeback Mountain, I understand." Okay? I wasn't really looking for understanding or anything, but great.
Xavier Dolan's films are almost always LGBT-related. One of my favorites is 'Les Amours Imaginaires' or its English title was 'Heartbeats.'
Not super-lgbt I guess, but certainly an amusing film that's really pretty.

Well I mean, the comparison with Sex and the City has come up pretty often, and they let that one run for 6 entire seasons. I don't really mind the masc4masc thing, moaning that it's not representative of the gay community is just the same as moaning about absence of ethnic people and all this kind of crap. Of course you can't represent everyone, but you can leave the door open for other shows to do so. The matter is, this was the only gay series running that didn't take place 15 years ago. I just hope we don't have to wait another 15 years for the next one to come out.
