That's the point. The original claim was that women were being discriminated in the workplace with lower wages and the glass ceiling. This isn't true. Now the argument has shifted to "well they're not being discriminated against, but gender roles give an unfair disadvantage to women in the workforce by making it harder to get experience/training due to being nature's child-bringers."
This is a much more valid stance, but I don't see why the government should subsidize what is ultimately a choice. Having a child is a choice, unless literally forced to conceive and have a child of course. No one (normally) forces someone to conceive a child, to not abort the child, and to raise the child. Even if it's gender roles or expectations, there isn't any force or coercion. I don't think the government can really solve this problem anyways, you can't get job experience if you're not at the job, this isn't something the government can fix with maternity benefits.
