Most Japanese people can't speak english. Even cafes and such written in english, you'll go inside and the menu's are Japanese ect. They use english more as a style to look cool. The Chinese are notorious for that. Even if they took english courses in school, most get flustered and don't want to speak broken english and sound stupid and embarrass themselves to foreigners. So they seem to like to avoid talking to people who aren't Japanese unless they hear them speak it first and feel like they could maybe hold a conversation well enough with them.

I read a very long BlackHill fic that was actually a pretty good character study on her, which made me want to find more BlackHill fics, which lead me on a reading binge of the best Black Widow fics out there. There are a lot of really well-done character studies for her. Flesh out her history, make her completely fascinating as a character. There are a couple I opened looking for BlackHill, only to find that the BlackHill was very very minor and it was mostly about Black Widow's sense of identity or whatever, and then I bookmarked them anyway because they were so fucking good.
That made me read her comics, and like her more when I saw her in the films, and now she's a favorite character where before she was meh.
