Grindr has been around since 2009. Its not so much a hooking app any more as it is a way to identify gay people when you go out, which is why you don't need to go to gay bars any more.
Also when you live in smaller cities or towns, it becomes a dating app. At least where I am. More dating going on on grindr here than hook ups.
