Can we have a lgbt film thread? Preferably ones that are positive and have honest/realistic stories.
I finally got around to watching "Pride" and I enjoyed it immensely. Another one of my favorites is "Lawrence Anyways". So let's get a list going.

I don't know about positive and realistic but Billy Elliot makes me cry like a little bitch every time, it's one of my family's must-watch choices every christmas
>tfw as a child, spending the scenes with the mtf kid trying not to cry or have a panic attack
>tfw didn't understand what these feelings were at the time because I was a dumb fuck
>end up becoming massive hon after realising "I'm trans and that's what all this mysterious anguish and self-loathing are from" at fucking 20
The Boys in the Band is interesting because the play came out right before the Stonewall incident and the movie came out right after so the moods and atmospheres are radically different

oh shit
I saw that years ago
and now a lot of things make sense
A Single Man
Milk
>>6063298
I dunno. "LGBT" films don't really do much for me. Id rather see movies that have gay protagonists that otherwise are just normal movies. But it seems that if your main character is gay, then its automatically shoved under an "LGBT" label that makes it seem less accessible to nongays

Top Gun did pretty well
Don't dismiss this just because it is not in English and the cover looks like pure autism.

Romeos
>>6063737
Going to watch the first, it better be good anon.
>>6063298
This was so heavy handed in its political message that the characters lost all flaws, and strayed from the actual history of the events. But that statements basically true for all historic dramatisations.
>>6063315
i thought lawrence was asexual.
>tfw last guy I slept with studied ballet
>tfw he doesn't message back but still talks with the guy that took my phone
is this a good movie?
>>6065400
It's a classic but fucking hell if you've suffered parental abuse it's #triggering
>>6063463
i rewatched billy elliott last week, it's been a while since i last saw it and i had already forgotten how great it is...
also i always sympathised with the mtf kid but never realised anything, now i'm 21 and on my way to hondom as well
Quite a good film, made a lot of the far-right catholics froth at the mouth when it came out in France. The english title's "Blue is the warmest colour". Do recommend.
>>6064091
Read the book first. It'll only take a few hours.
>>6065446
well the friend did crossdress at one point and wears makeup at the end of the film, it could be just a self-insert to make him mtf
>one of us one of us
>>6065446
He's neither gay nor MtF. It's straight up misappropriation.
>>6064009
Came here to say this. Such a cute movie.
>>6063298
Dune, 1984.
Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, the main antagonist, was an incredibly grotesque and bloated sadist who was infact portrayed as a homosexual.
Pretty fitting if you ask me.
>>6063309
get outta here with this weeb shit
These threads are always half trolls and half people with bad taste but whatever.
>My Own Private Idaho
>Totally Fucked Up, Mysterious Skin
>I Killed My Mother, Tom at the Farm, anything Dolan desu
>My Beautiful Laundrette
>Kill Your Darlings
I kind of have a soft spot for Brokeback Mountain even though it's objectively not that good. Been meaning to check out Tangerine and Carol, and Danish Girl if only out of morbid curiosity.
>>6063298
Best Pride film.
>>6066100
Danish Girl was fascinating, but I wouldn't call it good. But then again I'm cis so whatever.
>>6066100
Personally, I loved The Danish Girl, but maybe that just calls my taste into question. :/
Also, Carol was pretty good. Them lesbian feels. ;_;
>>6066427
No one's as edgy as you, huh?
>>6066100
>>Mysterious Skin
that
Best movie cited so far, imo.
>>6065962
This. Not a single homosexual has been portrayed as accurately since.
The Birdcage is AMAZING!
What's not to love about Robin Williams and Nathan Lane being gay lovers?
The Normal Heart
>>6066433
Yeah, I meant more from a trans politics perspective than a filmmaking one I guess. I mean, it seems like it was successful at being oscarbait, which means it can't be too objectively bad. But I'm not a big fan of "born in le wrong body" cliches generally.
Anything by Derek Jarman desu.
Weekend is really good. Love films like that where there's barely any soundtrack.
>>6063298
hey guys, I don't usually post here, just was curious do you gay guys like "Milk"? I think it's quite cool
>>6073778
Yeah I've seen it multiple times, it's a great film. I think it's a good thing to depict the lesbian and gay scene in the past, it helps the younger generation realize how far we've come, and it might give straight people an insight on what a lot of us used to go through (and continue to do so today, to an extent). But yeah it's still a good movie regardless of the message.
"The man of your dreams is back..."
Pic related.
And Water Lillies by the same director.
Are there any actually good trans women movies? All the good trans movies seem to be about FTMs.
Kind of nice I guess since ftms get so little visibility
And don't say Tangerine because that's about drag queens.
>>6074812
Laurence Anyways?
Trans America is a good movie. It's an emotional one, but has a good ending.
A Serbian Film
>>6064091
single man is p. good
>>6065494
You're french ? I am and I have never heard of any french lesbian/bi who liked the movie, we all consider it as a meme desu
>>6074790
I loved Water Lilies. Adele Haenel is great
>>6066100
>mysterious skin
http://vodlocker.com/u4nlga34xr0o
>>6081462
Why would I need to be a lesbian to watch the film? I'm just a gay dude, I watched it when I was fucking desperate for gay culture and I thought it was really nice, why do you consider it as a meme?
>>6064009
This was the cutest film.
>>6074812
This desu it tears me up evertime
How do people feel about this show or the eating out movies?
>>6086975
I actually enjoyed QAF.
Eating Out series is a campy ass mess.
>>6081462
it's actually pretty popular here in america among cishet normies, albeit artsy hipster college student ones
>>6074573
>leading actor came out as gay IRL
I thought he was cute as fuck, so this was a great movie for me growing up. I had a crush on Marshell Bell, so seeing his ass was a dream come true for me.
>>6086983
True I only watch eating out for the hot guys to bad they only show dick for a second everytime
