Hi /mtfg/. This was supposed to be a question but it slowly turned into a cry for help when I started typing :x
I was always very feminine when I was little. All my friends were girls. Genetically speaking, I take way more after my mom than my dad, and I used to always look like a little long-haired twink fuckboii. I felt comfortable and pretty, all that bothered me, was having a penis. My mom always told me to just act and look how I wanted to, the problem was more with my dad, who would constantly yell at me or tell me to man up, or say I'd grow up to be a little faggot if I didn't put the dolls down at the supermarket, always driving home the point that being feminine is bad and me wanting to be express myself this way was weak and pathetic. I persevered and just tried to be me.
When high-school came around things changed though. I was bullied senseless. My female classmates wanted nothing to do with me anymore, and the only boys who would be my friend were other losers/jackasses I would tolerate the company of. Mostly I just got called a fag. I wanted people to treat me like I was normal and started trying to man up. I intentionally stopped expressing myself and mimic to what I thought boys were like. Puberty hit me and I became more and more distressed with my body, so I just ignored my body too.
I have no RL friends left, just these foreign gamer friends I've known for like 10 years, who's friendships are more real than any I've had in years. They like me mostly for my self-deprecating humor, which I use to mask the fact I want to cry all the time for being stuck in a gross parody of myself that I've created to hide my shame. I can't even cry anymore though so that's no longer an emotional outlet for me

and they'll almost be guaranteed to say 'hmm your name is quite androgynous, clearly you're not putting enough effort into transition'. plus you have two psychs/clinicians overseeing you so they can play 'good therapist bad therapist'. my ftm friend got told he was half arsing his transition by a psych because he had long hair and nail varnish. it didn't matter the guy was a greasy metalhead with a beard and his nails were painted black and chipped looking. they say 'show up however you feel comfortable' and then grade you on how feminine your clothes are. my initial assessment with a local psych to refer me to a clinic made note of my 'essentially male clothing' which was skinny jeans, a tank top with a bra and breast forms underneath, and a baggy plaid shirt i took off when i sat down. the uk system is so patchy and dependent on your therapist's views that its best to femme it up and go overboard like a drag act to make sure you are trans enough and don't get strung along for years receiving no treatment.
the whole system sucks in a major way. oh also if you're autistic they won't be so eager to treat you because a common symptom of people on the spectrum is not feeling comfortable in their own bodies so good luck honestly. most clinics have a policy you should be working or at least volunteering so your RLE and transition actually counts and you're not just sitting inside popping pills only to go to pieces once you step outside. better give up on those autismbux

your gender marker and name can be placed on a gender gender changed certificate that replaces your birth certificate. this is managed by a private legal body and is applied to at your cost, by a case file put together by you, your GP, and your clinic, most likely the chief psych/cinician who has overseen your transition. life, lifestyle and surgical status are all taken into account. as a private legal body which is presided over by a judge, it can be accepted (and a certificate issued) or rejected and the result cannot be questioned. you can always reapply. you must be living full time in your role for two years, that's how it works. so you can do it via the private system but you need to have it approved by two medical professionals. NHS is easiest. applying costs about £120 if i remember rightly

it's still a strange leap to take IMO, unless it's proven that any other given condition precludes the neurological basis of legit gender dysphoria. like, depression and anxiety are among the most common mental health conditions that aren't gendered (even if they are expressed differently by each sex), or other things like tourettes for example. would an amab or afab be denied access to GICs for having comorbid tourettes?
