This is how you guys act when you try to pick a new name. I would have thought that it was satire if I wasn't told that it was pandering.
>>
Don't know about other mtf here but I'm keeping my boy name, forever, I think it's cute and it may be a boy name but it's MY name
>>
So you can hack that tranny to pieces immediately, right?
>>
>>5981631
What is it?
>>
>>5981823
Chad.
>>
>>5981823
drew
>>
>>5981631
Every other mtf is too neurotic to do something like that.
>>
>>5981909
>Get to pick any name I want
>Born german with a fucking french name
>Actually looking like a girl makes people go O.o over my name on ID

Yeah, totally neurotic and not just reasonable...
>>
>aidan
What should I do?
I was thinking about keeping it and forcing the nickname Ai or something.
>>
>>5981438
I just went with what my mom would have named me if I were born a girl.

That's about as natural as it gets.
>>
>>5981996
>forcing the nickname Ai or something.

ai lmao
>>
>>5981996
Ask your parents what they would have named you if you were born a girl. Take that name.

Has the side-bonus of helping your parents think you love and respect them.
>>
>>5982097
I have 2 little sisters and they stole those names.
>>
>>5982137
Steal them back :DDD
>>
>>5981996
Please don't
>>
>>5982137
You know come to think of it, they named you something retarded in the first place (no offense), just go look at top 100 baby girl names the year you were born and pick something you like that you and others think fits you.
>>
>first and middle name are just my father's but in reverse order

Yeah, no way in hell I'm keeping my name.
>>
>>5981996
>I was thinking about keeping it and forcing the nickname Ai or something.

Ai is a Japanese women's name. Ai Uehara the pornstar has it (pic related).
>>
>>5981631
hope you don't plan on trying to go stealth hon
>>
>>5981996
Aidan is like teen trender ftm tier name
change it immediately
>>
>>5981975
>tfw chinese american and my parents named me an FTM Aiden tier snowflake british name
wtf
>>

wow were they the opposite of high when they thought of that

Im an Aidan aswell, going Nadia would be would be cliche. Aidan can be a girls name but if i had to change it it would be Audrey Because i love Little shop of horrors so much.
>>
>>5983985

>Praising bottom of the barrel writing just because it includes a trans or queer character.

And that's why you can count the number of well-written queer or trans characters in games on two hands, if that. We should be pushing for more nuanced characterization, not accepting complete garbage and allowing the standards of "quality" for said characters to remain insultingly low.
>>
>>5984104
>>5981438

And just to put the OP's scene in context: the NPC being spoken to gives you that spiel immediately after having introduced themselves if you ask about their name.
>>
>>5984104
i agree, there shouldn't be token characters whose only personal dimension is their gender/sexual ID— but i think that, even if it doesn't always make for great character writing, it makes for better world building.

One of the biggest priorities for any RPG is building a believable world — one where things make sense. Even in the most far-out fantasy worlds, there are still references to historical/real life people, places, things. So if a developer is trying to make a game world as rich and detailed as possible, it seems obvious to me that they'd want to include trans and LGB people. People always talk about trans/gay characters being shoehorned into games in a way that seems artificial, but what would be artificial would be having game that doesn't reflect that part of humanity.
>>
>>5984128
>having introduced themselves and asked about their name

that's at least two levels into a dialogue tree — I think that's plenty deep enough for them to bring it up (we're not talking about planescape torment here)
>>
>>5984147

>"Hello, my name is Mizhena!"
>"That's a strange name."
>"Well actually I was born a boy and etcetera etcetera..."

If this is what passes for believable or good writing, then times really have changed.

In any event, enough people complained that they're apparently going to work on the character some more and patch it later.
>>
>>5984168
no, it's baldur's gate, none of the writing is super believable — you walk up to some random woman and she yells YOU THERE DO YOU HAPPEN TO BE THE PROPHESIED SAVIOR OF THE REALM??? or random shit like that. But it's hardly out of sync with how the rest of the dialogue trees in the game work.

You ask someone about their strange name because it doesn't seem to fit with their gender, and they give you a logical response. She didn't launch into a multi paragraph biography or anything
>>
>>5984168
it's a joke character

also, BG has far better writing then say, Shadowrun, which reads like middle schooler fanfic
>>
>>5984233
I love BG, but have you played Dragonfall? writing in Dragonfall at least is better than any of the BG games.
>>
>>5981996
delete n and you have Aida
>>
>>5984239
Dragonfall is the only Shadowrun game I played, and it's what I meant when I mentioned shit writing
>>
>>5981631
I'd love to do that too but since my birth name isn't and has never been gender neutral I don't want it to be the thing that outs me to everyone and their fucking uncle.

Such a shame too, Ian is such a nice and simple name.
>>
>>5984233

>it's a joke character

Source?
>>
>>5984244(you)

However, some quests and dialog lines are surprisingly better then others, which leads me to think that the script was written by several people with varying motivation/skill level.

Still, if you go to, say, roleplayerguild, then you'd notice that the stories, characters, depth and style of most of Dragonfall script would fit very well in "free" section, which is lowest common denominator of writing.

>>5984255
>source?
>>5984128
>>5981438

Basically its something that you, as a player, are supposed to read, laugh at and move on
rpg games do that often
>>
>>5984264(you)

think something like what guardsmen say in skyrim..
>>
>>5981438
early in the game you can find gender bender belt

this lad could probably use it more then mc
>>
Aw snap, I've had this idea that if I was trans (thank goodness I'm not) I could change my name from Cole to Nicole and it'd make me seem all clever and people would have an easier time remembering it. B)
>>
>>5984258
i'm just thinking in terms of character development — maybe the NPC story arc writers were better than everyone else, but it seemed like there were at least dynamic characters with realistic emotions in Dragonfall. Again, i'm a huge fan of baldur's gate, but your companions didn't really have interesting stories. And even though Dragonfall is still mostly derivative cyberpunk stuff, it's not quite as derivative as basic D&D high fantasy in BG...
>>
>>5984289
you must go deeepeeeer

make it anagram !!

Cole=Elco=Elko
>>
>>5984269
>>5984264
>>5984255
>>5984233
also, it's not a joke character...the Beamdog developers were quite clear that they meant to put a trans character in there to be taken seriously...
>>
>>5984299
BG was a part of larger established universe, which is basically a manifestation of high fantasy. It's not a vice, it's a virtue!

I wish more games were made in forgotten realms nowadays. Instead everyone is trying to make their own brand new universe that no one heard or cares about
>>
>>5984305
sauce
>>
>>5984309
yeah i agree with that last part at least... so many people try to make new worlds, and it is really cool (for example in TES, think of morrowind, and to a lesser degree, skyrim in comparison with the standard high fantasy oblivion world)

in pillars of eternity, they slightly tweaked the names/characteristics of some monsters so they wouldn't be totally vanilla D&D high fantasy (like Vampires -> Fampyrs), and i'm hoping they're not thinking they're fooling anyone... Sometimes i wish they would just have a forgotten realms world with more focus on writing, saving them the effort of coming up with an original world and just doing a really good job with what's already there.

bitch please, TES is a long established fantasy verse

But look at shit like drakensang, or divinity, or dragon age, or like you mentioned, poe....no one cares about these new verses, and if you bother to learn more then superficial minimum, you realize they are really shallow/undeveloped

dragon age praised itself as a successor to bg franchise, but it failed, since no one is developing the universe except for the game devs

meanwhile d&d has been a multimedia franchise for decades, and it enjoys constant influx of new content. its an ever expanding universe. true that means that game devs cant do absolutely anything with this world(like for example brining le epic apocalypse) but then, who cares about this ebin orchestral chorus shit anyway-Nameless One's and Baalspawns personal struggle was far more involving, even if the scale of conflict presented was pretty micro
>>
>>5984360
oh actually, looking back at my post, i didn't really finish writing the 2nd half of my first paragraph. i was going to say, "yeah it's sometimes cool when they make new game worlds, but more games should feel okay just falling back on established worlds (like forgotten realms), as long as they focus on good writing within that world". So i kind of agree with you

Still though, new worlds are always cool, and in the grand scheme of things, should be encouraged — as long as (again), the plot, characters, and everything else in that world are also fleshed out enough. And I don't think that you necessarily have to have further development on a game world past the original title for it to be considered a success — plenty of awesome games never had anyone touch their gameworlds again after they came out.

Feels good desu.

okay, but there are terrible characterizations throughout the game. neckbeard tears just happen to funnel on the tranny/queer characters in these games which honestly speaks volumes about them

New Jersey. It's pretty common for my juniors but I haven't met anyone older than me with the name. There is one irish(?) american actor named Aidan Quinn.
It is a meme name and most people spell it with an 'e'.

My first cs teacher called me (eye)dan and I think Ai(愛)(eye) might be okay and kinda funny. Is it too retarded/chuuni? I'm too disjointed from real people to tell.
