There are rules and regulations for slaughterhouses and other animal places, typically they try to be as humane as possible for these types of things. This might be going off slightly on another tangent, but switching humanity from all meats to all vegetables/fruits wouldn't exactly be kind on the environment either.

I realize some slaughterhouses and places get away with things, but does that mean that every place escapes USDA regulation? There's always going to be bad apples in every sort of industry. We've been eating meat for centuries, I have nothing against people who want to avoid meat, but don't you think you're being a bit arrogant when you say everyone should just follow your diet and lifestyle? It's a complex issue! I personally am against it--especially industrial farming--so I don't consume meat often (and when I do it's usually fish and I'm selective about where it comes from). But I also recognize that I'm in a position where I'm lucky enough to make that choice. So I don't really think it's right to judge, shame and ridicule others because their situations are different than mine.
