But do it socially. Do this enough and you'll eventually wind up meeting somebody you like and getting close to them.

Yes. it's about finding somebody that makes you feel anxious. Somebody. Not something. As in "Just go out to a mall and pick somebody up lol" is shitty advice. You're not going to wow anybody when you're obviously uncomfortable in your surroundings. You're not you there. Find a place where you can be you and start socialising there. You don't have to go through the stereotypical dating channels.
It's about feeling a pleasant amount of anxious and getting a rush. Not driving yourself to vomiting and not eating because you're fucking terrified of everything that is happening.
Anxiety isn't just "Oooh geez I'm so noivoic! :((( What if I look silly?" or "i'm a bit awkward". Shit's a sliding scale and some people have it bad. Real bad.
The trick is to skip the dating phase. The dating phase is made up of falseness and putting up fronts. Trying to impress. It's all a farce. Ignore it. Online dating profiles aren't actually people. Make friends first. Then date the friends that you friend yourself having feelings for. Anybody that turns you down by saying they "don't want to ruin the friendship" isn't actually interested in dating you in any fashion, friendship or otherwise, they're just letting you down easy because they care about you. The only real difference between a lover and the best friend is that you want to fuck the lover and they want to fuck you, really.
