I remember there being a discussion in the comments section a while ago where someone pointed out the hand thing and the author seemed to be pretty self aware/focused on improving it. So maybe it'll improve over time, just like with the rest of the art.
Also I'm not 100% sure about this, but from what I've seen the author is some sort of history student, so most likely self-taught artwise. It makes sense that the story would be stronger than the art. Especially considering we have comics here by people in art school who make some pretty shirty looking art. (Coughrainflowerscough)
