I don't think there's any singular cause.
One reason on a familial level might be that when you come out they feel as though they have spent all of their time and energy investing in someone who is a lineal dead end, someone who is in actuality completely different from their near lifelong conceptions (especially if you're a tranny).
They no longer get to vicariously live through you. This used to be seen as a right of parents, and is still a primary factor. It's loss on many levels, even if they have a facade of acceptance.
It's also religious, as if that needs to be gone into.
People also view queers as promiscuous, disease-ridden spreaders of STDs, mentally ill, drug users who are brazenly anti-social, degenerate, and not to mention subversive and predatory.
It's true gays have a lot of sex.
It's true that gays are many time more likely to have STDs than the general pop.
It's true they use drugs more.
It's true they're more likely to be mentally fucked basket cases (and that this is probably causally related to gayness).
Some of this based on ignorance, some definitely recognizable trends.
