Like, the whole concept is that the entire comic is Bitty vlogging about his life and then you get to look into his memories from the scenes that he's vlogging about? So it makes sense to only see snapshots of important and memorable scenes that he's recalling and retelling in his YouTube videos.
Of course, this doesn't count for scenes where Bitty's not present/wouldn't know what's going on, but I still like to think of it as "snapshots" from his/the team's lives.

Not the same anon, but I think the vlogging format only accounts for part of the pacing problems. Even if you're working with snapshots, good story-telling should include some downtime to have characters to process events and develop instead of important scene after important scene with occasional snippets of the main character doing intermittent exposition directly to the audience.
All that, and I'm still not really feeling the chemistry between these two. If I had to guess, I'd say the author is so afraid of making this a "gay story" that the really juicy emotional bits of the relationship get downplayed, then some lame kiss happens.

I find that even though most my favorite comics are drawn by women, I am really enjoying some of the unique art and storytelling choices by male authors (Boneheaded and Easy come to mind). But it's true, women usually focus on romance, and men usually focus on porn, so on average I prefer female authors.

The thing I am critisicing is the way it was handled. We were pretty informed about Bitty's crush on Jack, but only get hints from Jack, which are fairly friendship-like. We didn't even know for sure that he was intrested in boys and so as long as you don't have your shipping-googles on I can't see how they would end up together realistically within one page.
Also please stop pulling pages from about a year back as evidence, that the critic on the new page aren't real.

Admittedly, I didn't read all the pastebin, but Always Raining Here (straight women), Stereophonic (I think it's a dude, some people a girl/trans person), Tied in Red (a girl), the comic with the angry twink bird (a girl) and TJ & Amal (I think it's a dude) are pretty good.
The only one I have issues with is maybe Starfighter, but mostly because it's rapey and has no real plot to speak of.

Because they took a legit cute story with cute characters and ran it into the ground, avoiding drama wherever possible, turning Liam into a bitchy woman in the process. We're really really bitter. If it started out bad we'd laugh and move on. But instead they took something great, which we idolized at waifu tier, and and killed it.

Despite the mild sperg, I'm impressed that you pulled through with evidence. There were subtle hints, but those who weren't actively digging for them, the scene seems hamfisted. I think most of us knew that Jack and Bitty were going to hook up, the way it would be delivered was the mystery.
However, like >>5792910 said, there are some issues with said evidence. I wouldn't have worded the way Anon did, but the point still stands: plenty of the hints are very open to interpretation. I totally get where you're coming from on some of it. On the other hand, I completely get why the chunk of people here feel the opposite.
None of us appear "wrong" per say, I think we were just victims to misunderstanding. This could have been avoided if the author tweaked the development a bit and didn't have such a long break period. She isn't a horrible writer, far from it, like anyone she made some mistakes in some aspects while giving too much focus on others.

There are actually other hints if you look for them. Even if you weren't aware that Bitty and Jack are supposed to kiss, rather than Bitty getting rejected by his straight bff, everything involving Kent Parson is the big red flag that should have tipped you off that Jack was into boys. It was phrased ambiguously enough to provide tension, but rereading it (i linked one of the strips in my sperg post) makes it pretty clear that Kent was coming on to Jack pretty hard.
Didn't you notice how disheveled both Jack and Kent were when Kent left Jack's room? :P A few of his shirt buttons somehow came undone, and you can clearly see that Jack just put his shirt back on. Mysterious, isn't it?
And get the fuck out of here, your criticism with the way the new comic is handled isn't actually about the newest comic. But even if you want me to fight fire with sticks and dryer lint instead of actual water, here:
This strip is the climax of Check, Please! Defined simply, it's the point of no return, but it can break this rule somewhat as long as it's the culmination of the story into its most dramatic point - for instance, in Star Wars, the climax is pretty clearly "No, I am your father." While it is technically a point of no return, there are better examples of points of no return elsewhere in the movie (the hero's journey sets the point of no return fairly early on into the story. when luke leaves tattooine less than half an hour into the movie, that's the point of no return for Star Wars, but not the climax).
What you are saying is a bit like saying Darth Vader should have been more clearly hinted at. This business with Luke's paternal heritage was all too sudden, and there just weren't enough clues in the story to let us know that this reveal was going to happen. It's really unbelievable, too - it would have made WAY more sense if Obi-Wan was Luke's father! All the signs pointed to it!

Sounds stupid, right? Except Bram Stoker was gay and totally got it on with Oscar Wilde a ton. After Oscar died, following that infamous homosexuality trial, Stoker somehow found the inspiration to pen Dracula. Also, Victorians didn't know much about sex and figured any bodily fluids were pretty much equivalent to semen...suddenly the book seems a lot more perverted. Ever seen the castle scene near the beginning? Sexy vampire women? "He's for me"? If you actually read through Dracula, there are a billion and one period-specific references to male sexuality and religious attitudes towards sexual conduct.
But surprisingly, I do agree with your point. The clues were weak and ambiguous. They wove out into multiple distinct interpretations. 1. Jack is a good friend to bitty, but is totally straight. 2. Jack has a tiny gay side but isn't willing to act on it. 3. Jack totally has the hots for Bitty but is too stoic to show it. As any gay will tell you, including me, this is pretty spot-on accurate for how you feel when crushing on a straight guy.
Basically the natural, logical progression of events is for the climax of the story to include some definitive proof of the "correct" interpretation. It didn't have to be a kiss! It could have been Jack having a meltdown about how he loves Bitty, in keeping with the anxiety theme. It could have been Bitty coming on to Jack and it working. It could have been the reveal that Jack is straight and that Bitty was making all of the clues up (unreliable narrator angle).
This doesn't mean that a kiss scene is a rush job. Just that it was chosen as the Big Reveal for the climax of sophomore year.

Gonna be honest, I didn't read all your analysis but I'm impressed with it. However, my criticisms with these newest pages are different.
I cannot speak towards fan pandering or this moment seeming out of nowhere because I don't read the comic enough, but this is one of the most stereotypical trope-reliant confessions (or whatever you want to call it) imaginable. Honestly, note for note this scene has been done to death a million different times in a million different ways. "Go to her," the lead's best friend says. His eyes widen, the sudden revelation that he's about to lose the only thing he's ever wanted crashing into him. He rushes through the airport and finds her at the gate just about to board. They make eye contact, but before either can say anything of importance, he sweeps her off her feet in a gesture so grand and romantic that everyone watching practically cheers.
Yawn yawn yawn fucking YAWN.
And then there's the forced cliffhanger of him having to leave because his phone rang? Like seriously? I know there's a lot of stuff happening for him right now, but you're gonna tell me that there's anything as important as the fact that he just kissed his friend and essentially came out to him all in one motion? Like bitch, whoever is calling can fucking wait a goddamn second so I can at least give this kid even the smallest sliver of an explanation of what just happened. Someone knocking on the door would have been much more believable, because then at least the threat to their privacy/time would have been more urgent, but with a phone you can just...not answer the phone. Like fuck, just call 'em back son!

The problem is that Check Please has more in common with a yaoi manga than it does real life. Given that, there's still a lot to enjoy about it, but an author writing for a female audience is going to miss things about what it's like to be gay in college, or in the closet, etc.

I cannot agree with you more. My open interpretation position was a blanket term on this whole ordeal. It probably would have been correct if I said we formulate opinions based on our desires, ideals, and experiences. An unfortunate amount of people like to insert their own agendas into a medium that never was about said subject. Sometimes people look far too deep into things and completely miss the point. That's one of my biggest gripes with people heavily involved in the literature world, it becomes too snobbish and looks down on those unable to find these so called profound statements. Not saying deep concepts aren't a thing, it's just sometimes the curtains are just fucking blue because that's the author's favorite color.

Actually, Bitty is openly gay. After telling Shitty he became more comfortable and when Holster and Ransom came back too help him score some chicks Bitty just told them. They were like: "Oh okay, let's help you score dudes then.", nothing really came of it but it showed that no one really cared. Jack even knew and I'm sure he was like "Okay cool, what are they serving in the cafeteria today?", it's on one of the blog notes.
It was Bitty freaking out on falling for a supposedly straight guy. Who knows what Jack was thinking. All we had was the Parson incident to hint at Jack's leanings.
