Also played on TBC AT until WotLK AT was released during Cata. Pretty high rating, but no glad-beast on AT.
Played 2 months or so of Cata / MoP / WoD - all were trash.

Corecraft is a 2.4.3 progressive (from 2.0.3) blizzlike realm. It's basically the TBC equivalent of Nostalrius; flawless scripting, totally retail-like.
It's not out yet though, hopefully this year, although I've been saying that for the past 2...

I played on vengeance wow when it was vanilla. I've played their TBC server a bit but it's not attracting enough population.
I did play retail WoD but it seemed pretty lackluster and I dislike the lack of coherent community like there used to be.

PvE is pretty much what WoW is designed for. Pvp is just kind of a cash grab to try and attract a larger player base. But WoW and EQ are pretty classic MMO's so PvE is the core of the game since it is technically an rpg

Remember those MLG 3on3 arena tournaments? They were pretty cool for a while but I think they ditched them by the time WOTLK came.
I think TBC was the best time for arena when everything was still new and people were discovering the most broken shit like drain teams and arp double melee teams.
The most fun I had was still in 2on2 playing as a shadow priest.

The frustrating thing is as soon as you remove PvE from the equation and start making minor balance tweaks around PvP rather than dmg meters WoW PvP actually wasn't a piece of shit.
AT3.3.5 had great class and comp diversity, thanks to damage nerfs to wizzard cleaves and thundercleave, the remove of legendaries and universal access to PvE gear (ie, it became a choice to use it rather than a straight up advantage). Every single class had at least 2 rank 1 viable specs and several even had 3, it was great.
Blizzard, really, really, REALLY don't know shit about developing a great PvP game. Hearthstone is a simple system pushed by marketing and ease-of-access, HotS is a total joke, Overwatch is an outright copy of TF2, and they killed SC2 because of reasons?
WoW is dying because its developer only cares about the bottom line and mass-appeal rather than creating a truly engaging game.
I've been playing recently, but i only had enough to buy 1 month of sub time so now i've just been through most races/classes to 20 then started a new one.
Latest i'm sticking with though and is a Belf priest on an RP server (argent dawn EU) No need to go higher than 20 just to RP and since i'm still basically new i'm having enough fun just running the low level dungeons anyway.

Granted I'm a casual scrub who only plays a few months every expansion, but I hope the Legion PvP changes and talents will improve this.
The ability prune in WoD was over the top too in my opinion. I play Priest (Disc/Holy) and almost exclusively unrated BGs, so I know I can't have any strong opinions on game balance. But I really miss having a short stun for chasing flag carriers, against Warriors, etc. Having to talent fear (only CC besides Silence) which has been baseline since Vanilla feels pretty ridiculous too. Personally I'd rather have a counterspell and a stun than blanket silence.

How do you keep Atonement up? I just returned a month ago so I'm not used to Disc playstyle. Do you use target of target macros for Holy Fire/Smite, or also a macro to cast HF on nearest target? I saw it mentioned but it seems dangerous in case it breaks a CC (not that those are that common in unrated BGs).

The ability prune was badly implemented, they said it was to remove pointless spells but all they did was gate them behind talents.
They should of resolved every spec into 4-5 key rotational abilities and a bunch of baseline utility that could be TWEAKED with talents. Instead they gave every class combo points or rage, tacked on tens of talents when they should be at most a dozen then said "well you can spec for it".
Classes in WoW have less diversity and lower skill-ceilings than most champs in LoL, and now they're making it even worse with PvP talents, artifact traits and the removal of secondary specs on PvP gear. Legion PvP is going to be terrible because the systems its built on are the worst in WoWs history.
