Well, to be fair, the clinical term is "sex reassignment", which is fairly close to what you're saying. "Sex change" is more slang than anything.

Sex change is a kind of slang thing. I mostly see it in Hollywood and shitty news reports. Doctors won't give you a 'sex change', just genital surgery. Sexual reassignment is a common term, as well as genital reconstruction.
