Hormones, yeah, easy as pie - you'll need a letter from a psych (-ologist or -iatrist, either-or) which can be done in as little as one session if they're well-informed enough. There's some pretty good resources online for Aussie trans folks with lists of trans-friendly psychs and GPs. I'm only familiar with QLD stuff unfortunately (ATSAQ is a good starting point) but I'm sure there's similar stuff for other states.
Marriage, it's a bit more complicated. AFAIK, if you rock up with M+F gender markers, you'll be treated according to those gender markers regardless of what you look like/were born with. As an FTM with changed markers here (M), I can legally marry a woman no problems, but cannot marry a male. Basically as long as there's only one M and one F between the pair of you they're fine with it, even if the genitalia suggest otherwise. It's both very accepting and somewhat homophobic at the same time.
Re: legalisation; fuck only knows. It comes and goes. QLD just re-instituted same-sex domestic partnerships after the last state govt got rid of them. There's been talk of federal-level changes but Turnbull doesn't seem likely to allow a conscience vote (which is probably the only way it'll get through).

AFAIK, all other markers (e.g. driver's licence, Medicare, super, bank accs, ATO) can be changed with just a letter from your GP or psych - this got changed at the federal level back in 2013 and all states were required to update their forms/etc as appropriate no later than July 2016.
I mean - I'm only on T, and I currently have all my non-birth-certificate markers changed. Medicare even got changed before my name change came through, so I could get my shots a little cheaper.
