There's research that would suggest sexual preference is more complex than previously though, and that there are roughly three basic areas of attraction. It still takes ages to travel there, at least a whole day if you don't want to spend a fortune on tickets. So flying over to London (or from there to the european main land) just for meeting someone is a bit of an overkill.
