What a coinkydink, I just found two of my first oil paintings on an old account.
ca. 2008 I think. oils on MDF.

Sure, I'd love to see them

I'm purely autodidactic when it comes to painting, it's just a hobby for me so I don't expect anyone but me to really like what I'm doing or to sell anything.

When I paint I often feel like its a communication between the surface, the paint and me. I usually never start with any idea of what I want to paint but hope that the painting can communicate to me what it wants to be. Usually people see different things. It's funny to see these old pieces again because I lost them when my old place flooded and they grew mold.

Reminds of this big sketchbook of my uncle's I found as a kid. Don't have it anymore, but the colors all popped like this one and the style of imagery was sorta the same. It kinda looked like a punk cartoon book. Have any others?

I still like painting abstract but I feel the process is my formalistic, sometimes things become more realistic other times more abstract. I'm practicing my color modeling these days so that there is more fleshy-ness in them.
>>

Wanna post of your music?
I'm not actually well versed in tattoo art, the drawing that anon posted just reminded me of it. I loke the one you posted, though. I can't imagine having such a big tattoo. I haven't even gotten any yet, but I know I'd start small. How long did it take for you to learn guitar?

I really love them! I can see the fleshiness in the latter one, reminds me of a cow's corpse. I'm the op, but I do some abstract, as well. I get what you mean about it being a communication, like it's something you can't put in words, but it comes out in picture. My emotions, even when they aren't concrete, effect my art a lot. By now, I don't even question it, I just 'do,' ya know?
Any particularly odd answers when someone said what they thought your art was? Haha, for some reason, my mother keeps seeing pornos in mine.
>>
>>5549821
It's strange because I don't keep a journal, and if I find things I've written down that I haven't dated I can sit around and wonder where I was in life when I wrote that stuff.
But with painting it immediately takes me back to the mindset I was in so they work as journals to me.

Just doing is the best approach. Have you ever read David Lynch's "Catching the Big Fish", he talks about ideas in it and its some really interesting stuff. He says that ideas doesn't really belong to us and that we are simply receptors of ideas that we can choose to bring into the world. I really like that.

Usually its mushrooms or dicks, sometimes horses.

i don't have anything recorded and i mostly just play classical music... i've been teaching myself on/off since i was 13 or 12 i actually can't remember which for sure... i went to lessons for a month but i hated the teacher and just stopped...

i'd say i'm still learning desu... i used to write more than i play guitar, but i've had a hard time focusing on writing cuz i have a lot of chronic health issues that make guitar easier at this point...

i don't have any really big tattoos, but i have 15 of them...
>>
>>5549854
I totally get you on the working as a journal thing. (Ignore that this was done on lined paper) Everytime I look at this drawing, it takes me back to the throws of June or July when I drew it. It was hot and getting hotter and I forgot myself to everything but this piece of paper. That whole summer, actually, I was making art like this, each one more of myself than the last. Do you name your pieces?
>>
>>5549902
Nice, sort of neo-psychodelic.
I give them man names, sometimes I forget or they grow into nicknames.
>>
>>5549889
You should post some writing or vocaroo some guitar. Sorry about the health shit. What sort of things did you write about? I do some writing, as well. For some reason, I always wonder how my art and writing would be different if I were straight. I really found myself as a writer around the time I came to terms with all of this, and while I can't say just how, I feel like it made some kind of impression. While the stories are all different, the drama always has that seedy sorta undertone that gay stuff had when you were a kid and didn't really know about it.
>>
>>5549946
Thanks, I call that one Conrad's Crime. Have you always been painting?

these are both pretty old (and completely separate from each other, and i've been reworking them, but i never got around to typing up any of the reworked shit) i just get high and/or drunk and word vomit pretty much... fiction and nonfiction, these are both fiction... i might have non fiction somewhere... i'm very disorganized...

i'd vocaroo some guitar, but then i'd have to move... sorry about that

got any of your own stuff to post? i never really thought about who i am and how it affects my writing honestly... i mean of course it does, but i guess i don't imagine myself any other way and then think about it

actually just found something related to the first story that i wrote more recently (pic related... oddly enough that story is significantly older than the second one i posted but whatever) this is the kinda shit that's in my phone... just bits of out of order shit that i tell myself i'll put together one day or work with...

Doesn't really have anything to do with him being alive, John Currin seems like a similar artist but I guess he isn't as kitschy as this guy. Getting huge in contemporary art is a job in itself.

Thank you anons. I use SAI and as for brushes I usually pic a brush that's sensible to pressure and customize it in accordance to my needs (min. Size, blend, etc). For the hair, for example, I tend to use the 'M' and 'R' shaped brushes for the multiple, separate and uniform-ish lines in one stroke.

Here's another one, which I did before the first one I posted.
