As a quick note, in order for experiments to be scientific, they require controlled variables. Controlling variables within human lives is very difficult.
One way scientists try to counter this is by increase the number of experiments, or the sample size, that they study. The thought is that by increasing the variance in people you're studying, you can then average your results and that'll reduce the chance that the results you get might be an outlier from the general population of people.
The catch to this is that, for some things, you can get fairly effective results just by letting people go about their daily lives and conducting a survey with an even larger sample size, to further reduce the chance that the non-controlled variables are creating outliers in the study.
So, with that, we can either do something like
- Rape 10,000 children and study them.
or we can do something like
- Survey 100,000 people using proper statistical methods.
The second type of study provides valid insight, just like the first one, with the added bonus of NOT HAVING TO FUCKING DIDDLE KIDS IN YOUR BAT-SHIT CRAZY /POL/ CAMPS, YOU MENGELE-AGGRANDIZING FUCKWIT.
