Does taking hormones actually change your sexuality? Does this mean conversion therapy with hormones is possible? I don't support conversion therapy, but I'm interested in what this could mean.
>>
It changes the nature of your sex drive, which may or may not result in changing your orientation.

Sidenote, Iran does force gay men to transition to female so they'll be "straight"
>>
Nope, my orientation on test and E were the exact same. I can put myself in the place of the man or the lady and have sex accordingly. AGP is a wonderful gift :)

it can
>>
My experience:
> before HRT, attracted to cis girls, trans girls, /d/ stuff, and traps
> on HRT, attracted to cis girls, trans girls, /d/ stuff, traps and feminine boys
So if anything I've become slightly more into 'homosexual' (in terms of biological sex). Other peoples' experiences vary, but in general it's a pretty unreliable way to go about conversion therapy if you specifically want to make people hetero rather than just shift the sexuality an unpredictable amount in an unpredictable direction.

I hate the thought that sexual orientation cannot be chaned during a life time

If that would be true, it means at some point in our lives (the window of sensitivity) we are 'programmed' to be attracted to a certain gender or object.

The implication that such a period exists HAS to mean that during that period, a part of our brain is developing, after which it can no longer be changed.

If you're going to argue in such computer-like terms, there's not enough humanity left.

Dramatic, but it's good you're thinking. Here's something to get you going on more fruitful stroll:

hm I don't really see how the ship of theseus is related to what we said.

Even if you accept the notion that a human being is not the same human being by virtue of physical mass when comparing decade to decade, because every single molecule of him has been replaced.. the information which the mass represented has not been changed throughout that period

The thing I said about sexuality being a hard-wired, or 'programmed' state of our psyche makes the assumption that the information stored in our brain remains mostly stable over-time despite replacement of matter.

You can see every single human as a self-programming machine, whereby certain 'fuses' are hard-wired in biological development (such as general layout of CNS), whereas any part that remains is free to be changed throughout life. The question asked in this thread boils down to whether or not sexuality is a 'free' part, or it adheres to hard-wiring and cannot be changed once set.

The mechanical/personal computer model of the mind is cultural obstacle which you can overcome if you consider that the Ship' is designed to make us question the essence of things. Getting away from materialistic standards for immaterial things will help a great deal in asking the right questions in philosophy. Also Whitehead is cool.

But if you want to keep it science-y, and practical, at least stick to evolutionary psychology and cool chimp videos. I mean, even being "prison gay" upsets the "hardwired" premise. It's upsetting in general. And avoid gender theory theology.

>The mechanical/personal computer model of the mind is cultural obstacle which you can overcome if you consider that the Ship' is designed to make us question the essence of things

When the ship of Theseus was made, people didn't have a clue where your thoughts and personality (which define us) were stored. Besides, you can still argue that the vessel itself was changed, but its function (our psyche) was not. If you translate it to computers, the electrons that process our calculations are always different, but the outcome is not. I refuse to dismiss the 'computer model' of the human mind because it's biologically correct and cannot be refuted. Any claims on souls and spirits, no matter how nice they sound, are not true and cannot be proven.

Again this discussion never was about the physical human mind itself :) , it was about the higher-level preservation of flexibility. If you want to get super-sciency, the human brain is a reprogrammable logic device, like an FPGA or a CPLD, where part of the logical circuits can only be set 1 time by software-restriction. Whether or not sexual attraction is reprogrammable is something I want to believe in, but likely quite restrictive in reality

We don't know for sure. The effects of cross sex hormone therapy on the brain is poorly studied. Going from my anecdotal experience though it only peripherally affects it. My sexual orientation didn''t really change, it just got more flexible. To speculate, however that may be more contributed to the fact that transition made me more comfortable with my body and who I was attracted to.

There is no such thing as AGP

They did for me, maybe I always preffered men and just repressed it, but I doubt it
>>
I used to think so, but I think the shift in my orientation was more just me becoming comfortable with the idea of being with guys.

I was openly bi before transition, but I went through a period where I had some bad experiences with some shitty boyfriends and started resenting guys, which I took as a sign that I should try women instead.

So for a while I went full 'transbian' and ended up having a series of emotionally fulfilling, but sexually boring relationships with ciswomen. But I still felt very alienated from that scene and didn't have much interest in vagina focused sex.

Then I started thinking about all the stuff I actually fapped to like traps, femboys, gay porn, etc and realized what I was missing from my life was dick.

So its not so much that my orientation changed, but I realized that my sexual desires were (from a biological standpoint) mostly homosexual. At that point I became a lot more comfortable exploring my interest in guys, and over time I've become a lot more interested in masc guys as well.

I liked girls on T and I still like girls E.

Welcome to 4chan, brother. Through dick, unity.

Well there has been no evidence of it being effective when used on gay people in the past to try to "cure" them so it's much more likely that trannies just stop repressing their orientation like they do with many things but some perceive that as it "changing".
