I am curious: how many of you became gay/bi/trans during your college years?
>>
I was gay when I was 13 years old.
>>
I realized I was bisexual during college. No "experimenting" story, unfortunately, just jerked it to gay porn one day.
>>
Realized I was trans when I was like 12 or 13 but didn't start being open to being bi until I was in college. Mostly I think it was just bc the guys in my hs were really mean to me, but when I got to college guys became a lot nicer and I became more open to feelings for them.

A simple matter of mistaking the effect for the cause.

Colleges tend to be socially permissive settings, (unless we're talking about some religiously affiliated school but even then too) filled with teenagers and twenty somethings many of whom are finally getting away from parents for the first time.

So you have this mix of horny young people, a permissive culture with relaxed sexual mores, and the opportunity presents itself for any latent homosexuality/queerness inside people to be released.

It's silly to say college "turns people gay" it just gives people who already had those leanings the opportunity. And since for many of them it's the first opportunity, so all those previously repressed urges surge up through a bottleneck.

No but the opportunities for doing gay shit go through the fucking roof

I realized that I was gay at 13. When you masturbate and you can only get off to other guys, or you have to look away from the other boys in your locker rooms to avoid getting an erection it's pretty obvious.

In retrospect the signs were obvious since I was a kid, but I didn't realize I was lesbian until university.
It was a combination of independence, less intense schoolwork/more free time, a semi-life crisis "why am I not interested in dating at all?", and the student gay club that opened my eyes. So, I didn't really need a permissive atmosphere, it just happened to coincide in time, in a way. Student gay club explicitly mentioned as it's my only outlet and I don't frequent non-student clubs, it's the only uni-related part of my story.

agreed. if you don't realize you're part homo before you leave high school then you're the exception

I found out in my senior year that I was bi(on paper) but I have met some that knew it since middle school.
>>
College makes girls bi because it is cool and edgy. Then there are LUGs (lesbians until graduation.) Basically women use their female privilege to appropriate gay struggles to make their boring lives seem more interesting. It is all things you learn in womens and gender studies 101.

You took gender studies?
>>
>>5450565
No, the Internet had made me trans by middle school. (I definitely wonder how I would have turned out differently if I hadn't discovered trans being a thing when I did, or if I had become aware of femboys before transgirls, or had encountered less of an all-or-nothing attitude in how transition was presented, or any number of other possibilities.)

Some colleges require it.
>>

Did you choose gender studies as your major before you knew you were a lesbian or were you undeclared, turned gay and then started doing womens studies?
>>
>>5453975
Oh god no...

i realized i was bi at age 13
>>
Knew I was bi since age 12.
Realized I was trans in college when I met endless hordes of shit people who perceived me as female and treated me differently because of it for the first time in my life. Thought I was non binary genderqueer whatever the fuck but didn't want to be socially percieved as tumblrcore, which was fine for then because I perceived gender to be meaningless. It essentially is, but gender dysphoria is something else entirely/ dropped acid and realized i'm disassociative as fuck. Peeled off the mental bandied and woke up. Being alone for the first time in your life might do something if you didn't realize shit before, makes sense to me.
