I'm honestly pretty surprised this is actually a phenomenon. I've heard of mtfs living as guys until they've been on hormones long enough to pass well, but living as a man with HRT and srs because you're afraid of being an ugly woman? I couldn't imagine, as an ftm, transitioning physically with everyone around me regarding me as a woman, having a female body. I would feel so disgusting I would probably kill myself. That's already how I felt before transition anyway, as a boy relegated to a female frame that seemed not to fit. I could never "settle" for living as a masculine woman. As far as I know, I can't get SRS until I socially transition. It is definitely a compromise that in my opinion is better than further masculinization, or being a hon. I'm still pretty miserable. Becoming a hon would just ruin what little I have going for me in life. And as I said before, it's not about being an "ugly woman". I don't even look like a woman in the first place. There is a distinction. Making people around me call me a female name and pronouns, and deny what their eyes plainly see is not something I'm willing to do.
