Even if a males adams apple is not visible, they still have a larger larynx, only difference being that the size takes more width, and isn't as angular.
The male "adams apple" is still like twice, or sometimes more, than that of a female. Even without edges visible, you'll be able to see that the "throat" is a lot thicker in a male.

That throat is made out of cartilage, and sticks out further than the neck muscles, so a loss of neck muscle won't do shit to help it.
