Yes and no, I guess. I rejected Christianity at around 10/11 years old, and in England they're pretty heavy on the God thing. Hymns and bible stories every morning and shit.
But then, living in England, they cut that shit out in secondary school. My family aren't particularly religious, and nor is society, so I had the choice there to distance myself from it.
If I were living in Mudhutistan surrounded by vehemently religious psychopaths that were brainwashing me into their beliefs, I might have less choice in the matter. But that's an important distinction, being born into it, and being brainwashed by people into following something.

Japan is pretty much that. Only a few people believe in Shinto and most do it out of tradition. Any other religious person is Buddhist which has no gods. I can at least respect Buddhists since they're generally good people. Don't tell a fedora that though because they swear up and down Buddhist priests taught Kamikaze pilots when that was Shinto priests not Buddhists.
