FTMs, what is your personal view of what being a "man" is?
>>
Having society see your as disposable if you're not constantly proving your worth.
>>
A collection of physical characteristics and behaviors, differently weighted, which can tip you into a social category in which you're treated in a certain way.

I mean, I'm considered a man now (despite having been a little girl) by probably 100% of passerby on the street because I physically transitioned and legally changed my name, yet I share a lot with the person I was seven years ago. I took hormones and had surgery because I wanted to change my body and changed my name for day-to-day convenience (and because it was fun) and the "man" thing just...came along with it. It is what the majority says it is, I guess.

A person who uses male pronouns
>>
>>6476341
More muscle mass, a squarer figure, more hair around body, and a deeper voice than the female counterparts. though this may fluctuate from man to man as in one man may have less muscle or body hair etc. From what I see in pounded in steriotypes from my child years, and mimicry that has come to my attention is that a man is supposed to be a leader and hold in his emotions, to be the one in power, have more muscle than fat, etc etc all that shit.
>>
A man is someone who wears his weaknesses like badges and carries a strong spirit such that his worst enemies wouldn't dare to even look at them.

In a cross-cultural analysis, there is no one social class that can be called "man" and thus there are no personality characteristics that can be used to define the class "man."

Feminism changed my approach to men a lot. But I think that one of the main things that defines being a man in American culture is the notion that you should be unfeeling and unemotional. I feel that masculinity, in a way, is negatively defined to a large extent as well, as a large part of what it means to be masculine is to be "not feminine." Growing up, I always wanted to be feminine, but I felt strongly that I had to hide it, so I developed a strong aversion to expressing any vulnerability. I grew up a strong, lonely man who saw girls as unicorns and secretly desired to be one. Even in kindergarten I remember sneaking into my mom's room to try on her clothes. I've always been one of those technologically-inclined people, and I pretty early on learned about transgender people, transition, etc. and I knew from the time I was 12 that I was trans. I just wish I'd been brave enough to speak up about it. Years of patience came next, even telling myself "I'll transition after my parents die." After this came some years of denial.

Only recently have I acknowledged to myself again that I am trans, and now for the first time I've acknowledged that I need to transition in order to be happy, and that I deserve that happiness. My view on men today is mostly the views encouraged by intersectional feminism. I do see men as victims of a society that heavily limits their freedom of expression, but also as perpetrators of a great deal of the sexual and gender-based violence and inequality that we see. Individual men are never defined just by being men, but it is easy to trace personality correlations with particular values held by a group of individuals.

There is no culture or country in the world where the 'public sphere' argument doesn't apply, making being a man more than just living with absence of femininity.

>I feel that masculinity, in a way, is negatively defined to a large extent as well, as a large part of what it means to be masculine is to be "not feminine."
By your argument it would be impossible to find expressions which are inheretly neither feminine nor masculine, as the absence of femininity would be masculine. Then what of androgynous expressions? Do you claim the don't exist?

Nah, depends of what kind of emotion or feeling. I know many men, who are pussys and express pussy feelings, though they look very manly.

>I do see men as victims of a society that heavily limits their freedom of expression
Same for woman... same for everybody.

Ya'll can disagree with my general claims if you want, but do please fucking use your brains and realize that they are general claims not meant to convey absolute truth or to accurately represent reality in 100% of cases.

I asked you to use your brains. This is 4chan. We should be better than reddit and tumblr and shit like that. Critique the ideas all you want, but don't do so like "hurr I know a guy actually who isn't like that" or you're thinking on a 3rd grade level desu.

Not FtM but I've known some of them - FtMs tend to be very outspoken about not denying masculinity and just "being themselves" and such which I think comes from being raised as women, that infamous female socialization. Femininity today is undefined and it exists and something that can, theoretically, be anything. In fact, even defining what femininity is is controversial, to say the least. It's something we (as in MtFs) face a lot because newly transitioened trans girls are eager to define and express their femininity but that usually ends in outrage in saying femininity is "I watched a film and cried today" or similar.

I think FtMs come from that kind of background and so they have a much more open and non-restricted view of masculinity than perhaps majority of cis guys have.
>>
>>6490775
I see a lot of ftms take on toxic masculinity traits in order to fit in and pass as cis men. It's kind of disgusting even if I understand the reasoning behind it. It would be nice if they didn't crumble under such pressure and better validated themselves as men and redefined masculinity itself.

As a straight hetero male (I know I just triggered half of this board), to me, it means jacking off to porn while making 60k a year and buying games off of steam and pirating games while ignoring flirtatious female workers (who by the way are the worst employees and deserve pay gaps). That's it.

Straight male here, but big supporter of LGBT rights, because equality and why not.

For the physical sense, it dosent matter, i most go for what i think being a person is like.

A good person, nice, kind and all giving, thats what a good person is, man or woman or trans dosent matter.
