Genuinely what's with the stereotypical 'gay man' voice? You know the one, where it's raspy and feminine. It's not just a movie trope, I've met at least 3 or 4 people that talk like that.
I'm not by any means trying to offend anyone I'm actually just curious why people put on that voice, it must actually take mental effort to talk like that as opposed to just speaking normally.
Some gay guys are raised by single mothers and, due to peer isolation in school, end up hanging out with girls.
The result is a natural, subconscious emulation of their voice, just like every single straight guy in a group sounds almost exactly the same, how every group of girls has the exact same laughter, and how gym goers have almost the same grunts.
This isn't the case of all gay guys, obviously, which is why most /don't/ have the 'gay accent'.
And there's the ones who do it on purpose to make identification easier.

I'll say one thing, it's not voluntary. Plenty of effeminate gay guys I know are ashamed and confused why they're like that and why they talk like that. It's totally subconscious and shit whatever it is.

It's because it has been scientifically proven multiple times in the medical field that gays have more oestrogen than men and lack testosterone. It causes them to be effeminate and act like the human trash they are.

For most of the gays I've seen, one way or another they have some sought of effeminate trait even if it is subconscious. Being gay does this to you as you lack testosterone and you've got high levels of oestrogen.

I have a bit of an effeminate accent, I have since I was young. My mother would constantly ask me if I was gay in my teens although I always said no just because I hadn't put two and two together yet myself.
I didn't even know I talked kinda effeminate, I found out through others. It's not bad though, like over-the-top-flamer tier. It's more subtle than that, but it's still present and noticeable.
I've tried to get rid of it but I always slip back into it.

Common misconception.
If you actually raise the pitch of a man's voice who has a gay accent, it's indistinguishable from a regular females. They voice patterns basically mimic female voice patterns, so it's either subconscious or influenced by hormones.
