Does it? Is being stacked and strong a plus?

being massive? probably not. It's good to be strong, though. If you lift, you're going to get bigger, but it's possible to do in a way that will emphasize strength gains instead of size gains. I wouldn't worry too much about getting huge, though, it takes a long time and a lot of effort to get that big.

I'd say the ideal program would increase endurance and strength.

Look up Vince Urbank sometime. He's a strongman competitor who was in the marines. His nickname was "machine gun" because he was a machine gunner. He's 6'5" and weighs 300 lbs. he can deadlift 1000 lbs or so.
>>
>>29913729
You can have strength without the bulk. My understanding is that bodybuilders tend to do a lot of short high weight reps, which build short muscle fibers whereas if one is training for strength one does long reps. This is why asian grandmothers who worked in rice fields all their lives aren't built in the slightest but are still strong.

uh..... kind of. bodybuilders go for failure, or drop set. they lift until they can't lift anymore, drop the weights, do it again for 3-5 sets of 8-12 reps. that builds size. for strength training, you do 3 sets of 8-10 reps, but lots of weight.

I started doing 4 sets - 2 regular sets of 8, 3rd set I go til failure, drop weight, go til failure again. I'm making some good gains again after a while. It's weird, but I'm not getting much bigger, but how much I lift is going up pretty fast.

Most kommandos are olympic level athletes and or operators
>>
I personally do pt once a week. And I have a physical job. Not crazy fit but I have to believe k tends to be in better shape then say b or h
>>
komandos are just firearm scenesters.but i'll tell you what go out and lift/workout like a motherfucker and eat as much as you can afford to and 95% of you will never look like that pic.the i don't want to be big excuse is bullshit you don't have the drive or the genetics.and i include myself in that.whatever you get you will be better off.watch mma workout videos and do that they are pretty much cutting edge:they do everyting.
>>
>>29913729

More than mass you want strength, as already pointed out here >>29914219

Don't neglect endurance and flexibility, they always come in handy. If you're a smoker, try to quit, and if you never gave a shit about your diet, you might want to start eating clean, if keeping the wonderful machine that is your body in shape has anything to do with "being a /k/ommando".
>>
Lots of "/k/ommandos" are fat underage cretins
>>
Speaking of this, don't want to hijack the thread.

I've been recovering from getting run over by a drunk driver for the past two years. I gained a lot of weight from overeating and being depressed. Now that I'm in physical therapy and I got the greenlight to do exercises I had an idea.

My treadmill can do various paths of inclines, speeds, etc. I was thinking that I could program a mock ruck-march, have a backpack with weights in it, and complete the course. Is this a good or bad idea?
>>
>>29914823
i don't know if you have any problems still so i can't say how hard to push it.mobility is everything if you don't have that work on that.
>>
>>29914862
I still have some back pain, which is why I wanted to start off with no weights and do maybe half or a 1/4 ruck march and work my way up.

I'll probably just ask my physical therapist.
>>
>>29913729
Some exercise must. If you're a blob, you're not fit for combat, period.

So long as you can run, carry weight, and shoot straight, you're pretty golden.
>>
yeah talk to him.some doctors can be pussys tho.the thing with my back is sitting and doing nothing kills it the most.you have to keep moving.the more i do dead lifts the better it feels.form is crucial
>>

>>
>>29914219

His DL is only 906, not a thousand. Shit, even the mountain can deadlifts more than him.

>>29914885
I use bricks wrapped in duct tape in my pack. Go slow but keep at it. I add one brick a month. Moving to 7 bricks in two weeks... I'm scared.
>>
>>29914885

Whatever you do, don't rush. I had it in my head that I was going to enlist as a Green Beret (yeah, retarded, I know) and went really hard, hitting the gym every day, lifting on Monday Wednesday Friday and running on the non lifting days. Every week for a month. Completely overestimated myself and fucked up my knees. That was in October and I'm still feeling the effects. Just go easy, for your own sake.
>>
>>29914811
I resembl...er, resent that. I'm a fat old cretin, thank you very much.
>>
>>29915048

900lbs is still stupidly impressive. There are players in the NFL who don't DL 900lbs, and that's about the most strength intensive job there is.
>>
>>29913729

In most cases, cardiovascular health is several times more important than physical strength.
>>
>>29913729
teddy roosevelt said that the gridiron was a proving ground for soldiers. that's why the Gridiron Crisis of 1905 was a big deal for him. Teddy Roosevelt personally worked to change regulations in college football because so many players from top schools (strongest and the smartest) were getting killed during games.

the key thing is that you have to be healthy. It doesn't matter if you are a body builder. You have to have endurance, strength, this is war after all.

/fit/ would hate this thread to death if they weren't too busy staring at half naked men.

For a soldier Stamina>strength but strength is still incredibly important. There's a reason most women are hated in the military. If you can be strong and fast then you are that much better of a soldier.
>>
>>29914823
very bad

if you're a big boy, running will be hard enough on your knees without adding a weighted backpack

try to get in the pool and swim some laps. full body low-impact cardio is bueno
>>
>>29917118
As a former fatty (360 to 195) no one cares you are fat. No one. There are so many in america most are accustomed to it.

You'll start getting looks when your loose skin becomes apparent, but fuck em, you've got abs under that shit.
>>
>>29917211
This is if you're afraid of taking off your shirt that is.
>>
>>29914823
Sure, go for it. But do it outside. A treadmill is no substitute for the great outdoors- plus, the fresh air'll do you good. I learned this the hard way.

t. marathon runner who started out on treadmills.
>>
>>29914823
Think your knees would get wrecked. How about just running the treadmill then hitting a parking garage to climb stairs?
>>
>>29914823
swimming or stairmaster. Those are your cardio options as a fatty.

How heavy are you? I used to weigh 355 lbs. I'm being honest, so now you.
>>
>>29916399
Sucks bro. Similar incident doing 5x5 then running in between lift days. Probably bad form or ignoring when things started to hurt. Had back/knee pain for almost a year. Just started last month with weights, need to start running again
>>
>>29914823
Do normal exercise and get back to some basic semblance of fitness before you start heaping abuse on your body.

Still gitting big and stronk
>3x8 deadlift, RDL, OHP, skullcrushers, curls, wrist rollers

>pyramid on bench incline and squat

All this so i can carry a block of water on my back along with a ton of spam and oats maybe 6 mags of .30 carbine and the appropriate rifle etc etc. All lifts are above 2 pl8s except OHP

R8 my bob

I think that being in decent shape is going to increase your dangerous situation survivability tenfold.

I PT twice a day, sometimes more on a weekend.

>does exercise go along with being a commando

well yeah it's pretty much a basic fucking requirement for even being allowed to try out as a commando
>>
>>29913729
Why do people still ask this it's so fucking obvious.

When operating professionalism > shooting skills and cardio > strength.

With self defense it depends on the situation but generally situational awareness > all.

Why is everyone so retarded about human musculature?

Rice patty gooks have built endurance and stamina.
The difference between them and power lifters is the difference between distance runners and sprinters.

Distance runners look like fucking twigs, but they're able to thousands of times further than sprinters. Yet, sprinters are able to run much faster.

You can't lift 500 lbs over your head without muscle mass, not the fucking ambiguous "bulk" which is normally fat when it is used to describe someone's physique.

To lift twice as much as you are now, you need AT LEAST twice the muscle mass. You need more than twice because as growth occurs in a particular muscle, the angle at which force is applied varies leading to less efficient movement.

This means by having twice the muscle mass you are able to exert twice the energy, but that does not translate to twice the power.

Anybody that wants to learn more about the science of weightlifting should read The Nautilus bodybuilding book by Dr. Ellington Darden.

Brooks Kubik is a very good source for actual exercises and more material.
>>
Just lift.
>>
>>29914823

I was in a car wreck a few years ago. Same deal. Put on a ton of weight. Stay away from running. It will do your hips and knees. I started back with walking and moving onto rowing. Once I got strength and a bit of spine mobility back I did a lot of work on Hammer Strength machines at the gym. They were excellent for isolating body parts and working around my injury (lower back and hip). When I got fitter and stronger I started doing circuit training. The weight melted on me. Now I only do cardio on a Versa Climber and have gotten back into weight training. Took a fuken long time, but stick with it. And don't be a lard ass diet wise. I ended up going Keto to strip the weight off.
>>
>>29914811
some of us are middle aged semi-inshape creatins. I go running...sometimes, and I can deadlift, not a lot, but I can do it. I have abs, not well defined but Im not embarassed at the pool either.
Joking aside: a /k/ related workout involves working your shoulders. The idea being that when you raise a pistol or rifle the main muscle group used for aiming are your shoulders. Think about it!
>>
You are less likely to be hit if you're smaller. This is a fact.
>>
>>29915028
wait...why do you know that?
>>29916177
if you have been improving as you said, it wont feel like a lot. You have nothing to fear.
>>29917118
I agree with this partially. Running is great cardio, but if you havent been doing it on a regular basis start slow and easy. Adding weight right off will fuck up your knees.
but no need to do the pool thing. If you start in the pool you will never trueky oush yourself
>>
You guys are all faggots sounding like women wanting to toned but not bulky. Do some strength training 3 days a week, hiit twice and lsd once. Read this:

>>29919637
and police reports of shooting morbidly obese people suggest that sometimes they take a lot of body shots before going down.

and what value are you if you cant get to the fight before its over? Or if you do manage to make it to the fight you are too spent to actually fight? Or the enemy ks breaking contact and you must persue? Or you are breaking contact and the enemy is in persuit?
If I can run faster than you while I am wearing full kit and you are in athletic gear, you are wrong.
>>
>>29913729
No. I had a squad leader that was jacked, nigga sucked fucking cock at running with a flak. Or just running in general.
>>
I personally hybrid train. For example with bench press I warm up with 135 until I'm about 5 reps from failure, so around 25 reps lately. Then I go up to 185 and again stop a few reps before failure. 225 stop before failure. 250 until failure then drop to 205 until failure then 185 until failure then 135 until failure. Also I take 4 minute rests between the sets I'm not taking to failure and then no rest going down in weight. So that way I go heavy with long rests for strength then high reps with short to no rest for hypertrophy. Just my 2 cents
>>
>>29913729
Looking like Arnold, no. You obviously have to be in great shape though. When is being strong not a plus?
>>
>>29921326
More vascular flesh for the bullet to put a hole in = faster bleed out time. Couple that with an athletes quick to rise blood pressure (they usually sit well below normal but can shoot up quickly) and you have someone bleeding out sooner than your typical fat or skinnyfat.

Fatties have bullet resistance, skinnies are smaller targets (+10pts bullet dodge), and fitties have the advantage of being able to move around better and get over obstacles more easily. All of these advantages are miniscule though, and there's advantages and disadvantages of every body type, but honestly it's best to be fit, not just for modern combat scenarios but for just about everything. Stop making excuses and get functionally fit.
>>
>>29916425
>>29916425
Not a single NFL player can deadlift 900 lol.
>>
>>29922370
I find that extremely hard to believe, I'd bet at least everyother team has a lineman that can do it. 900lbs is an extreme amount of weight but when you are talking about a pool of 150ish guys that weigh 300lbs or more and have been working out and involved in athletics for 20+ years, to think none of them are capable of pulling 900lbs is kind of ridiculous.

so id like to drop in what I do twice a day starting at 7 in the morning and then again at 6

pull ups / chin ups 6 SETS / 10 reps
sit ups / push ups 4 sets / 40 reps
boxing bag 3 minutes 4 rounds
squats with sand bag 40 kg 6 sets / 40 reps
4 km run
sprint with sand bag 20 landings

is this any good ?
>>

Not him, but NFL star players won't ever reach above 700lbs DL. Most of them don't even squat that much.
