Charles Lindhberg was a commercial pilot and ex army captain
He suggested we use planes to look for alien structures and bases, as the USA was still mostly jungle, <only to debunk the alien theory>
One night in 1932 his child was abducted from his bedroom, nobody heard a thing

It's one of the most watched and discussed movies from that time and pretty much all of that popularity is recent.
It's great, but saying it's underappreciated means being willfully blind to the massive following just so you can feel like a special snowflake (omg guise i watch kubrick am i deep yet).

I guess it depends on where your from. I only know of one other person thats actually seen the movie, and a few more that have heard of it. I work in the service industry so i meet and talk to alot of people too. Its a good thing im wrong though
