Convince me not to get a Glock 20, /k/.
>live in bear country and hike frequently, 10mm would be great for taking down a black bear or even a mountain lion
>Relatively cheap and simple, not many moving parts to break
>Very easy to find replacement parts and holsters for
>Is pretty sexy IMO
>15 round magazine

Is there a reason not to get it? Is the 10mm cartridge a meme?
>>
I have one. It's preddy good. Kills most shit on four legs and everything on two. If ya load em hot they're nearly magnum cartridges.

Now the idea that standard load FMJ are these tiny nuclear missles are BS but everything else is fine.

>live in bear country and hike frequently, 10mm would be great for taking down a black bear or even a mountain lion
A .44 with some buffalo bore would be better if this is a legitimate concern. inb4 moose attack webm.
>Relatively cheap and simple, not many moving parts to break
>Very easy to find replacement parts and holsters for
Yeah, that's true for the most part.
>Is pretty sexy IMO
No accounting for taste on /k/, I suppose.
>15 round magazine
About the only real pro I see.

>Is there a reason not to get it? Is the 10mm cartridge a meme?
They're pretty good guns and 10mm is a strong cartridge that will fulfill your stated needs, but it's also definitely a niche/compromise cartridge in basically every way. It's not going to be particularly easy to CC unless you're fat and/or dress 2x up in most everything you wear and you won't be hitting the range often with ammo cost/availability.
It's a special snowflake gun/cartridge, but dive in if it's what you really want.
>>
>>29324668
Because the glock 40 exists.
I wish I would have waited, but I love my gen 3 glock 20
>>
I love mine, except that it throws brass into my face once in a while, but maybe it's just the way I hold it. Either way, I'd trust my life to it, and if you want to shoot .40S&W because you have glass wrists or want to be a special snowflake and shoot .357 Sig, all it takes is a barrel swap.

Might as well post the picture I took at the range with my dad today, the G20 is on the left, on the right is my Remington Gamemaster 760 in .308, my grandfather gave it to me.
>>
I'm debating between a RIA 10mm, a colt delta elite, or a glock 20. I want a 10mm for the reasons you've stated but I'd like it to have an external safety.

the delta elite is cool but the G20 is by far the most practical of those options.
>>29324734
220 gr hard cast is more than enough for black bear, hell 180gr HP is enough for black bear.
Only if you are up against a brown bear do you really hope that you had a 45-70 or the like. And with a Brown Bear a 44 mag will do you almost no good, you would want a 460 or a 500.
The G20 is a fantastic gun for self defense and for woods defense but it will print like a mofo if you try to CC it. I can open carry at my workplace so that's what I carry.
>>
>>29325118
My only issue with the glock is sleeping with it chambered and unholstered. I do that with my RIA GIVE 45 but would feel uncomfortable doing it with a glock with safety.
>>
>>29324668
10mm wont takedown a bear, but fuck up his face so the rangers can slay him later.

Just get a .40 if you insist on a semi auto, or get a .44 mag revolver.

Different anon, but I think what he's saying is "10mm won't fuck up a bear, so you might as well go for the more common and easier to handle caliber, or go all out and get a .44 magnum."

meme aside even if you don't reload (you should) it's just the best carry gun you can buy period.
>>
>>29324668
>10mm would be great for taking down a black bear or even a mountain lion

No, it would not be great. A pistol cannot reliably kill bear and cougar. Buy a glock if you want, but buying one for those scenarios is incredibly foolish.
>>
I prefer the Barrett M82 it is compact and versatile, it can be concealed well, and the ammo is cheep as fuck.
>>
>>29326319
You hate glocks and CC a gun made exactly not to CC. You ever look in the mirror to notice the pants are in fact on your head you fucking troglodyte?

Glock isn't my favorite, but you don't need to be that smart not to CC a 1" slide. May as well CC a .500SW

>>
>>29324668
Black bears run from humans. They are scared animals the vast majority of the time.

Chances are you won't hear a mountain lion coming. It'll be playing with your corpse before you even think about playing with your gun.

If you think you need a 10mm for black bears and cougars specifically, you're buying the wrong gun. Go learn about the fauna in your area before thinking a 10mm will get you real security.
>>

>>29324757

Is the g40 all that much better? What kind of energy advantage do you get over the 20 with the longer barrel?

or insist on having a clown shoe sized semi auto if you want.

Its a veritable, depends on what your shooting. I want it for that 8" gap between the front and rear sights, and the extra weight from the slide. It works well to tame the recoil.
>>
>>29324668
>Convince me not to get a Glock 20, /k/.
10mm Glocks sit in the .45 frame. They're thick and heavy and the grip is different from the 9/40.
They're less comfortable to carry and weigh a lot more and if you're used to / trained with the smaller frame sizes then you probably won't shoot the larger frames quite as proficiently IMO.

The ammo is more expensive but let's assume you're right. The ammo, the good ammo, is still hard to acquire relative to more common rounds. It's only a non-issue if you order all your ammo online or hand load.

The Glock 20 has a very long handle that imprints more and is less comfortable.

OP, unless you're getting it as a backpacking gun, it's an absolutely idiotic choice for EDC.

Theres no debate at anon. youre budget apparently has a wide range and flat out the G20 is the best option of the 3. If you want a 10mm and you have Delta money then look for a Dan Wesson RZ10 Razorback. if you have more money try a silverback. The RIA doesnt have what i would call a proven record yet and as much as I LOVE the Delta its a great shooter and great looking but it has some quirks to be aware of that in now way reflects the price. Thats an $800 tops but Colt is still retarded as ever
