Any of you folks ever get any items that may have been "misplaced" by the military as a gift from someone in the service? I had a few friends that were total kleptos and compulsive buyers and would end up giving shit to me.

What kind of items did you score? Any good stories?

>ton of cold weather gear in a pelican case
>a fuck ton of socks. Buddy deployed to Kenya bought 1,000 dollars worth of fucking socks because he didnt know what to spend money on.
>2 boxes of sim grenades and pencil flares(that was a fun new year)
>an MS2000 strobe

My grandfather had a friend who was a major in the army, so I now have a gov. Issue 1911 and 1,000 rounds of old unfired m1911 ball that was "given" to him in exhange for a bottle of Jack Daniels.

General 2nd hand military come up thread I guess?
>>
>>28693973
Holy shit those cartridges w/ boxes must be worth a ton in that condition.
>>
about 6 PASGT vests
3 or 4 OTVs
An Otis gun cleaning kit for every caliber up to 0.50"
about 500 dollars worth of knives, mostly Gerbers
3 or 4 pairs of SAPIs

Thank you DRMO yard and the junk heap on Camp Liberty.
>>
I had a springfield 30-40 krag given to me.
Too bad it was completely fucked till there was no value.
>Drilled into the action to mount a fucking rail.
>Rear sight was ripped off somehow.
>The stock was replace by what looks like an older remington 700 stock. (I dont even fucking know, they had to carve into it and shit just to make it fit.
>Was cleaning it just 3 days ago and the safety fucking fell off.

It has no value to anybody else but it was my great granpappys gun. Couldn't get rid of it even if I wanted too.
>>
>>28693998
I only ever open them up to gaze at their beauty. Dont even get my finger prints on them for fear of the oils discoloring the brass or copper.
Im sure the powder is probably ok still, these things look great
>>
>>28693973
At the end of WWII the Army threw away piles and piles of everything.

My Grandfather was working stateside in supply at the time. He appropriated fucking everything. I was the one going through his stuff after he was hospitalized, it was fucking nuts. Tools, and clothing, and jars upon jars of badges and ribbons. If he ever had any guns in there they were gone before I was alive, but I have no idea what I'm going to do with belts of vintage .50 cal ammo. The .22 ammo was a nice touch though.
>>
>>28694029
How the fuck do you sneak that shit out of DRMO?
>>
>>28694073
Do you shoot it?
>>
>>28694029
Oh shit, forgot about my vest and sapi plates.

I had an otis kit, but i actually prefer the brass rods in my winchester kit at home.

Oh, also

>his old gunshot kit with molle pouch, complete with quick clots, tourniquet, and trach tube, and a fuckton of glowsticks.
He was really worried about being shot in the fucking dark.
>>
>>28694180
Sneak? What do you mean sneak? This was 04 or 05, you just rolled up and said hey got any extra "whateverthefuckyouwant".
"Sure here, you want a triwall of it?"
"Naw, just a half dozen or so."
And that's when the investigations started.......

All joking aside, when units would leave they would just throw shit in the dump. There was an article in Stars and Stripes where an IA unit got in our dump and built an armored recovery vehicle from a couple of up armored and fucked up humvees, the arm from a back ho and other assorted bullshit they scaveneged from the trash.
>>

That's some good ole American Innovation right there.

Doh, forgot pic i guess.

Lot numbers matched the can, so it was pretty apparent where he got the ammo from.
>>
>>28694519
Shit, we had a ton of 30-40 krag hidden under this shelf for years, recently gave it all to the gentleman who purchased the rifle from us years back because we had no use for it. They are pretty okay rifles i guess. I dunno, I wasnt a huge fan of it... but still a rifle comeup is always a good thing. Heck, people would squeal about a free Mosin, so can't knock a free Springer no matter what caliber.
>>
>>28694354
Heh, yeah that is pretty good.

I got one for ya. So my old man is who got me into contracting overseas, that's how I wound up on Liberty you see. And he wanted a set of NVGs. Bad. I don't know why, he wasn't a geardo, but he wanted a set.

So one day, another guy we work with, Ricky, was heading up to Taji for something.

So Ricky, he's what you would call. Unique. He was constantly getting into shit.

So Taji at the time had bunker upon bunker upon warehouse of military equipment that the Republican Retards and general IA had stockpiled before we invaded. My dad asks him, "hey check and see if you can score me a set of NVGS while you're up there."

"Cool, no problem".

Few days later this crazy Montanan comes back. "Tell your old man I got something for him"

So we finish out the day and that night Tricky Ricky shows up at our CHU with what looks like a big ass wooden ammo crate. Like 12" x 12" x 48", OD green and covered in moon runes.

Fucking. Jackpot. I'm thinking he's got a whole crate of Russian nods. It weights like 150 pounds........

"I got it, I got your NVG! I had to go through about 4 or 5 warehouses last night but I found one."

"Alright cool, thanks, let's check it out."

We open the crate and find not NVGs but a sight to what we thought must have been a T-72. Ricky had snuck this on the blackhawk under the guise of engineering equipment.

And not wanting to waste what could be something of use, and APO rules being as lax as they were at the time, we boxed that shit up and shipped it home.

Fuck, I'm trying to find a pic for you guys, this thing was huge. Had a little lever on it that when you would move it and squeegee would wipe of the out most lens and it articulated in the middle to. Eh fuck, if I can get a pic I'll post it. Unfortunately my old mans gone now and my step mother sold everything. But that's a tale for a feels thread.
>>
>>28694614
Yeah, its a pretty cool rifle I thought, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one probably, but its cool to show people who haven't seen a 30-40 action.
>>
>>28694643
That is fucking awesome.

I kept trying to score NVGs as well but no luck.

No kidding though, my bud in SWCC brought home a philipino MAC 10 clone from an operation. How he got it home I dont know.

Wonder if he still has that...

All the stuff I took with me before I left the Army? That is a laundry list...

> 2 sets of SAPI plates(1 set medium, 1 set large)
> 3 laptop pelican cases
> 1 package of Grenade simulators
> 1 package of mortar simulators
> surefire flashlight w/ pressure switch (no mount)
> Leopold Mark 4 scope
> 10x10 Humvee camouflage canopy netting
> pioneer tool kit(shovel ax and spade)
> 3 50 cal boxes
> 4 7.62 boxes
> 1 40mm box
> 3 Alice Packs
> 7 Alice Pack frames
> a picture of George W Bush we use to have hanging up
> 2 ACH Helmets
> 28 M-16 Magazines
> 7 M-9 Magazines
> 4 road cones
> 1 gallon jug of CLP
> 2 5 gallon Jerry cans
> 4 woodland ponchos
> 10 plastic canteens and cups
> 3 woodland poncho liners
> front brush guard to a Humvee
> a toilet and fittings from our old barracks that was being replaced
> the leather office chair I used in supply
> 2 complete sleeping bag systems
> 1 box of 5.56 blank ammo
> 2 blank adapters
> SAW ammo pouches and empty drums
> tow chain
> tire chains
> a case(yes a case of Chem-lights)
> Beretta 92 crimson trace laser grips
> a bunch of books on how to speak German
> 10 sets of Multi-cam uniforms (pants and jacket)
> 3 pairs of boots
> 2 collapsible cots
> 3 army plastic tough boxes
> CVC helmet with mic
> 10 foot folding ladder
> rubber shop mats

That is what I remember off the top of my head. My command was very foolish to first deny my Stop Lose pay for deploying, and then when I opted out of deploying as another fuck you they stuck me in supply while on Rear Detachment while they were deployed. Joke's on them, they never should have put a jaded soldier in charge of military equipment. If I could have gotten away with it I would have stolen an M1126 Stryker

I have the road cones. No idea what I am going to do with them

But me and the toilet man... we have been through some shit together. He was there for all of my after PT shits, he was there when I turned 21 and puked into him for an hour straight. I passed out next to him several times in my army career. It was my favorite crapper.

It now sit at my family's cabin in Northern Wisconsin after the old one had the trap freeze and it cracked open.
>>
>>28695764
If they are in nice condition. Value wise yes
Problem is you have to spend time and effort to find people who want the box in nice condition. So basically you have to go to a gun show and haggle with the scum of the earth who all want to kick tires. Or gunbroker. Most collectors are not going to want multiple boxes from the same lot
>>
>>28695070
>Time to go back home

So if one were to want to go into the military to... procure items for... personal use... What MOS would that individual want to go for maximum haul, ease and secrecy of procurement, and should they go Army or Nat'l Guard? (This person is interested in sights, mags, pelican cases... Maybe NVG's?)

I guess it would be a bad decision for the individual to go and speak with a recruiter about this...
>>
>>28695965

>>28695965
I can't speak for the other branches, but Army Supply. Motherfuckers aren't even subtle about it. Ran into an extremely jaded Corporal (yes, that bastard rank that never gets used) who made shit disappear all the time. Dude was supposed to be an NCO doing high-speed action hero things or whatever the supply version of that is, but someone higher up the food chain didn't want to let him go because he was the only fucker smart enough to do paperwork, so he got to be a Corporal. He did not like being a Corporal.

Fucker didn't even need a reason. He'd open up a box, reach in, pull something out, and just fucking keep it. Didn't matter what it was. Didn't even have to be something he wanted. Dude just stole things to steal them. Later, he'd fudge the paperwork so the missing shit never existed, because, after all, he was the only fucker smart enough to do the paperwork.
>>
>>28696152
That reminds me of that part in Chickenhawk where a helicopter goes missing, so all the supply guys say all their missing shit was on it to the point where it was supposedly carrying like 5x it's maximum load.

I was mistaken. They want a LINE SCORE under CL (Clerical) of above 90. Usually a 90 on a line score is around an 80 average (or even less, but shoot for above 80) on the test.

You want a 90 or above to really be able to get the job you want though.

depends on what you "lose." some shit is considered a sensitive item and if you're stupid enough to lose it in the field then your entire company, if not battalion, will be outside looking for that shit until it is found, while post is closed to prevent it from getting away. This is usually why if you're gonna acquire something, you do it in garrison.

I bought most my milsurp on jewbay

I traded a USMC Larue mount that I bought for an ADM 30mm scope mount then gave that as a present for Christmas. The receiver then gave me an issued 7.62 cleaning kit with gerber cleaning tool and multitool and another gerber multitool
>>
Some MCU-2's, one man popup tent, ATNAA/CANA kits, a shit ton of tiger stripe gear (harnesses, pouches, etc.), a bunch of lightly used lvl 3a soft vests for scientific testing purposes, various A-bags and deployment bags, SIM rounds, tourniquets and other ifak stuff, etc.

Interesting. What are items you could "lose" that they would be nice to have but wouldn't get you or the rest totally fucked?
>>
>>28695793
I totally get this.
> be navy ausfag
> have favorite toilet on base
> perfect fit, door locks correctly, bolted down properly.
> was on that toilet when a mate cut his wrists 2 stalls down. If I'd crapped anywhere else he would have died.
> that toilet is live, that toilet is love
> any other toilet feels like I'm cheating

Now I'm out of the RAN I have no poop face

Usually if you lose something they try to make you pay for it.
>>
>>28700969
NVGs and pro masks are easy to steal if you steal them in pieces. they're not sensitive unless completely assembled.

firearms, sights, lasers or anything commo is generally a horrible way to end up in leavenworth since they get inventoried on a monthly basis by serial.
>>
>>28701342
yep statement of charges ftw. i've had plenty. best thing to do is steal from supply or from someone else. it's the army way. oh and when your shit goes missing go check the surplus store off post, it's probably there.

boots, chem lights, personal clothing and MREs are free -_- don't count, they basically give that shit away. hell the other day I threw away 2 unopened boxes of MREs because I didn't have enough room for them.
I don't think you're as thief-fy as the rest of us.
>>
>>28701616
Yeeeeah, my ability to skillfully acquire shit was sorely lacking. The smoke grenade is pretty sweet though.

A scalable plate carrier and general flak jacket. Waterproof parka and pants. A bunch of other stuff my brother brought back from afganistan. Some m16 magazines with the green feeder. Oatmeal bar from 2008.
>>
I had the chance to get a brand new arm's room lock (in box with key) that was completely unsigned for. I don't know why I didn't.
>>
>>28701753
Well now that I think about it. For one I had a huge problem with taking something, and two even if I did take it, what the fuck would I even do with it? I mean seriously.
>>
>>28701753
I wouldn't fuck with the arms room, their alarm goes off at the MP desk, good luck getting off post after opening that shit.
>>
>>28701799
It wasn't in an arms room or anything. It was in a quadcon that never got inventoried when we came back from trashcanistan. There was a ton of stuff in there but I ended up just grabbing a cls kit (the old shitty green ones) with expired IV bags. I mainly wanted the bag more than anything.
>>
>>28700481
Why would you do that?
All it does is add reasonable suspicion for the ATF to raid your ass and shoot your pets.
If you want a FA AR-15 you can make a lightning link with a fucking Dremel, stash it behind a power socket and pull it out in event of the happening.
>>
>>28700383
>>28700566

That was my battalion. 9th Infantry Regiment, I was in B Co and on lockdown for a week straight, C Co for over 2 weeks. The stupid fucker tried selling a bunch of optics to an under cover ATF Agent posing as a Oregon Militia Leader. he was selling it all for the rock bottom price if $1000.

But that was all C Co. fault for storing there optics in a separate room(a converted broom closet) rather then the arms room.

It was a crock of shit all around.

This begs the question. Are you a kleptomaniac or just an disgruntled opportunist? The other shit I understand, but what the fuck are you going to do with:
> a picture of George W Bush we use to have hanging up
> 4 road cones
> front brush guard to a Humvee
> a toilet and fittings from our old barracks that was being replaced

Seriously who steals a picture of Bush and a shitter? What /k/ related shenanigans are you getting into?

dear koko-fu ... what is that helmet and where do i acquire one for me selfs?
>>
>>28694542
That ammo isn't that old. It becomes Condition code "C" and then "H" (grade 3 for you ammo techs who didn't pay attention to your TAMIS request) after about 10 years.

Or its SUPPOSED to anyways.
