Since there isn't one in the catalog, lets have a shotgun thread.

What have you been shooting recently?
What shotguns have you handled that you liked least?
Do shells with "flight control" wadding benefit from a choke?

And other topics.

Got this bad boy for $100. Marlin goose gun bolt action 12ga. It's a load of fun.

I'm slowly building my Mossberg 835 into a retarded 590a1. When I got it, the barrel factory vent rib barrel was chopped a little short, it had a Mossberg factory PG on it, and it was spray painted black. Literally someone just sprayed the whole thing black with no disassembly or taping or anything.

I removed the finish and painted the receiver and mag tube in automotive epoxy paint. It looks like shit and I may have it cerakoted some day.

I've got a 26" vent rib barrel for hunting and an 18" heavy barrel from a 590a1 for defensive use. I've got a tritium front bead on it's way from Brownell's. The stock and forend are Hogue.

Just installed an IWC QD sling mount in the stock today at work. I have a GG&G QD front sling mount on it's way as well.
>>
>>28619320
What beauty is this?
>>
>>28619458
probably because it's a niche product from a small manufacturer that requires custom machining (receiver and barrel) that is in high demand and costs the manufacturer an additional $200 tax.

>>28619600
My Mossberg 590A1 with a classic wood stock set from Numrich (only like $50, a lot cheaper than ebay), a heatshield, and a reproduction 1907 style sling. Still can't figure out how to get 4chan to acknowledge the rotation on my images, though.

Mossberg 535, Mossberg 590A1, all Stoeger O/U's, Benelli Vinci, Remington 887, Beretta 686
>flight control wads+chokes
Yes. The wad does not create constriction, it shortens the shot string to even out pattern density. You still need a choke, and that choke cannot be a wadstripper design (so no Patternmaster chokes) since those do the same thing as the wad and can get hung up and cause a barrel obstruction.

NFA firearm only ever produced in extremely small quantities by a boutique company.
>>
>>28619650
How much did you end up spending on that all together?

i've been trying to decide if i wanted to make one, or buy one of those IAC imported ones
>>
>>28619458

Cause of time stamp.
>>
>>28622047
$400 + tax for the shotgun (used), $55 for the stock set (shipping included, from numrich), $22.95 for the sling from amazon, $43 or so for the heat shield. Plus sling mounts I had lying around, so about $520. I also got the wrong sized heat shield to start with which cost another 40 dollars. You have to call mossberg to order the heatshield, it's not listed on their website or anywhere else.

The balance and swing is pefect for me, and the action is smooth enough. Not quite 870 Wingmaster or Browning BPS levels, but I'm sure it'll smooth out a bit more with use.

I intend to shoot trap, skeet, and sporting clays casually, as well as start waterfowl hunting. Unfortunately, open wounds on my butt and lower back will make waterfowl hunting impossible right now.

Does anyone have opinions on the quality of the Winchester SXP or Winchester shotties in general? I might be tempted to get one sometime but I don't know if they're worth bothering with compared to Mossberg/Remshit.
>>
>>28619651
Why did you not like the 590A1?
>>
>>28627336
Sights were too tall, had to pull my face off the stock to get them lined up, which led to every shot slapping my cheek.

It also just felt pretty shoddily built. I know they have a reputation to be undeadable, but everything on the damn thing rattled and the finish around the front sight was crap from where they'd silver-soldered it on and not cleaned up afterwards. For a $450+ shotgun it was pretty bad.

>>28627326
The SXP is the second-best pump I've ever shot, directly behind the Browning BPS. Their autoloaders are pretty fucking nice too.
>for $400 the SXP home defense version is the only <22" barreled shotgun I've seen threaded for chokes and not fixed-cylinder.

>>
>>28626533
You have to call mossberg to get it, it's not listed anywhere on their website and can't be found on the internet. To get it on, you put the back on so the front is in the proper position then smack the front with something. It will pop over the barrel. Also scuff it a bit, but if you don't plan on taking it off, it's not a big deal. You need to use a clamp or vise to put get the screws to reach all the way through, though.

Did the wood stock set you got from Numrich require fitting to your a1, or was it a "drop-in and go" kind of deal? Did you also refinish the wood?

It was drop in and go. I didn't refinish the wood, it would look a bit nicer if I did. More polished or whatever. The fore end had a hairline crack, actually, but it wasn't difficult to repair with some epoxy to the interior.

Posting my first gun, a Savage Springfield Model 67F in 20 gauge. I can't find a lot about the gun online and the aftermarket seems to be nonexistent, but I've carried it through the woods and marshes with no failures. If S were to HTF, I'd definitely grab this one. I just need to get some sling mounts.

Good point. Further down the line if I wanted to make it into a trench gun, would that be possible with a 500? Really like the look of them.

Yes. Heat shields and slings are all readily available and cheap if you want.

You should get the 590 in that case then so you can mount a bayonet too.

Nice.

Your setup is eerily similar to mine. The stock and fore end I bought for my 590A1 didn't match until I did some sanding, staining, and finishing. Trying to fit a recoil pad at the moment; been a real pain.

What do you use to keep the action so clean? I tried using Frog Lube, and all it does it attract debris before gumming up the works.

I heard you can't put 00 buckshot or slugs through a full choke, is that good advice or fuddlore?

Not exactly a good purchase decision, but I have a 105CTi II. I have around 4000 rounds through it and shot in competitively for a time.

It requires constant maintenance and has no support from Remington at this point. They just hang up or put you on hold indefinitely.

Wasn't a fan of the UTS-15. Too many misfeeds, and when it does, it's more involving than just flicking out the caught round and racking the action.
I did enjoy the 1887, but when I bought my own I just didn't feel the "spark", so I sold it

I am gonna be checking out a Norinco 1897 soon, and if it feels right, I'll bring that home with me.
