Posting groups edition.

Just got done making some modifications to my Mossberg MVP .223 Varmint 24" rifle and I'm super-happy with 1 MOA groups at 100 yards from a bench with a bipod and rear bag.

Also did some work with the Savage 10FCP-SR .308 using some 175gr ramanufactured ammo. Can't wait to run the 175s out to 800+ yards.

Talk about precision [long range] shooting and shit.

Lots of guys are running them on here and 1MOA is pretty damn acceptable.

My Savage is a lot better.

Shot from a 100% factory Remington 700 SPS tactical in .308 (20 inch barrel, 1:12 twist), purchased on black Friday the year before last.

You 'Remishit" haters can suck my testicles. The quality control was spot on for a rifle in this price range.

With that said, the "X-mark pro" trigger is absolute dog shit. It's up there with the worst triggers ever. Good thing there are tons of very high quality aftermarket triggers available. (one of the reasons I'm a fan of the R700 style actions) I am ordering a huber 2 stage 1.5 lb.

I will eventually drop it into a chassis system. But by the time I do that, I'll probably be ready to re-barrel with a 6.5mm
>>
>>28535462
I think this was my 2nd or 3rd outting with the rifle using factory hunting ammo. This ammo was stupid expensive, but I couldn't get anything else that was readily available to group worth a shit. Considering I was consistently getting between .5 and .75 MOA with hunting ammo from a factory rifle... that's pretty fucking stellar if you ask me.

What's the weak link with the MVPs?
>>
>>28537034
1/9 Twist on the 5.56/.223 models *may* not stabilize the heavier/longer projectiles that one would use at longer ranges.
>>
Is the savage flcp 10 still good? Accepts AI mags? Song I'm lefty I can only get the 24 inches but I want it to be 20, would that hurt the fluting.
>>
>>28537106
See if your dealer can request Savage spin on a 20" factory barrel for you instead of the 24" and order it in for you.

Trigger has noticeable creep but is consistent and predictable. Fit and finish is so-so. AR magazines limit round selection due to length. Occasional feeding issues (varies widely).

Last night I made some modifications that seemed to help today: the recoil lug was loose in the stock, so I shimmed it. The rear action screw was too long and caused the bolt to bind sometimes, filed it down. The front action screw was only engaging with about 1.5 threads, so I filed down the washer thing that goes between it and the stock.

>>28537081
The new LC and LR versions have 1:7. But otherwise, yeah. Mine does good with 69gr ammo. 10 shot group in OP was with Australian Outback 69gr, I'm happy with that for a $510 rifle.

>>28537106
You need to buy an old FCP-SR with the camo stock for AI mags. The current one (which I have) takes a normal Savage mag with a plastic extension on it. It's OK, but it barely fits 10 rounds and if you have 10 in the mag, you can't insert it on a closed bolt.

I shot this group earlier today with mine: >>28535392
also the image attached to this post.

Mine is 24" with a muzzle brake and it's pretty fucking long. Doesn't really matter, it's not a hunting rifle. Hell, I just put 2 pounds of lead in the stock.

Fluting is dumb on a heavy rifle like this.
>>
>>28537211
Fluting is dumb on all rifles.

Only thing it does it makes it look prettier and even then that's subjective.

Am I supposed to be impressed? I can get 1-2 MOA at 100 yards with my M39 using irons, 30 year old surp ammo and a few sandbags as a rest.
>>

The newer version changes the diameter of the hole for some reason even though I selected .308 as the caliber. If you notice, the version you posted shows the holes bigger than the holes on the target.

But yes, it doesn't really change anything.

/prg/'s opinion on kydex cheek rests vs stock packs? Need one for pic related
>>
>>28539286

I'm currently using slices of blue camping foamie and hockey tape to get a good cheek weld.

It's been working decently so far. Keep looking at mdt hst for it though. ..
>>
>>28539286
Stock is better if you just need a touch more height in the comb. Adjustable stock obviously had advantages. Kydex riser is fine, it works, just make sure the screws are tight.
>>
>>28539286
I have an old Eagle stock pack that has lived on a few different rifles of mine. The fact that it is not married to a single rifle makes it better to me personally since I'm one of those weirdos that sells/trades guns pretty often.

Federal 168gr Gold Medal Match

Amazing what a difference match ammo makes. Was shooting ZQI ammo before, which had great accuracy, more than suitable for social work. Groups about the size of a softball, match ammo brought it down to about the size of a quarter. Too bad I can't afford to feed that into a semi auto rifle on a regular basis.

General question here.

Should I just buy a Ruger American in 6.5 creedmoor, or save up and get a tikka T3 tactical lite and get it barreled in 6.5?
>>
>>28539972
The T3 is a nice action, but you are in very different price classes there once the work is done.

Considering that spread it is only fair to say that decision is one you alone should make depending on your finances. At the end of the day they are launching the same projectiles, is the Tikka bolt feel and possible greater accuracy potential dependent on your barrel choice worth it?
>>
>>28539972
The rebarreled t3 will shoot circles around the rpr. But at that price point I'd say look at just getting a base t3 and building from there. Unless you go with a sporter, the stocks are cheap and you'll replace them soon enough.
>>

Bought a rifle (.308 700 with a blueprinted action and Krieger barrel) from a local smiths shop. They threw in a Konus M30 scope with a badger rail and rings.

Reviews seem mixed, glass looks clear, and it has some cheesy red/blue illumination thing. Are these any good and will it hold up or should I just toss it and use a Viper HS LR?
>>
>>28542700
Read a quick review. It's not repeatable.

One of the comments in the discussion area ubder the review was that it has a wandering zero after a bunch of shots.

I'd throw it on a 22 if the 10 yds Parralax works proper and get the vortex.
>>
Should I get a 107/82 or an Anzio 20?

Ammo will be impossible to find in the latter but muh fuckable bore.
>>
>>28535345
Get a competent gunsmith to glass bed it, ensure all your screws are properly torqued, and feed it the correct ammo for your twist rate. It'll probably shoot sub-MOA after you do this

>glass bed
It has aluminum pillars and glass bedding would be a fucking mess because of the magwell design (see picture).

Since when are 69gr projectiles not compatible with 1:9 twist barrels? I shot some Hornady 55gr steel match and it was worse than the 69gr I shot on the same day.

I would love a sub-MOA Mossberg, I don't think that's realistic without doing a complete build or cherry picking 3 shot groups to post on the Internet.

200+ shots on this through a Feinwerkbau 800x "Precision Air Rifle"
>not airshit
I've been shooting competitively for around 2-3 years now, and have recently been able to hit scores of 570-580/600 lately.
Also the reason I have so many rounds on that one target is because there is a laser system on my rifle for practice which if I actually calibrate it right, shows me exactly where each shot goes.(more or less)
