I've got one. It's OK, but here's my annoyances:
1) I had to sew the sides of the back straps. Both sides started giving way. Now, it was purely cosmetic since the real support is very dense stitching on the inside, but it's annoying. IIRC they strengthened it in the newer design.
2) Unless you strap everything down perfectly, it rattles a bit. Not very covert.
3) The straps loosen too easily during use, meaning you have to tighten it frequently or get too much play.
Overall, I'd buy it again, but there's certainly room for improvement.
As for the 5.11 meme, meh, they generally make very passable products are reasonable prices. It's not top tier or anything, but it tends to be pretty decent.
