California gun laws worth noting:
Ten round mag caps on pistols and rifles. Bullet button mandatory for rifles with detachable magazines. Thats basically it other than a week hold on transfers and mandatory background checks for purchasers.

I've peed on my feet and cured severe athletes foot in project challenge. Since i've drank gallons to stregnthen my immune system when i feel like it. Works best for exterior wounds imo but my ulsers are gone too so... Mileage may vary.

Get +P ammo for home defense
Get the 20 round magazines for sale on the hi point website, too. They're called redballs, they're good mags, if ugly as shit.
All told, with rifle (250), bulk ammo to practice with (75), +P rounds to practice a little with and save up in case of dindu (50), plus 2 extra 20 rounders (50), you're looking at 425 dollars for THE complete package. That's less than some mid end pistols, without any ammo.
If you get the job, save up 250 off your first paycheck and buy the gun at a gunshow, no taxes and they have a 100 percent guaranteed warranty, even if bought used, so you have no reason not to
If you've never fired a gun before you don't want to use a shotgun as your primary gun, the recoil on the 9mm rifle is piss easy to take and the stock means it's easier to aim for a noobie like yourself

I can't give or buy you gun, but I can point you in the direction for cheap guns. Check out gun stores or pawn shops for old break action or bolt action shotguns. Stevens and Sears&Roebuck are common brands. I was able to get one for 82 Dollars out the door.

Probably a Hi Point then, can be bought new for 160 bucks. Stay away from brands like Jennings and Bryco, they're in the same price range as the Hi Point but they're shit. You might be able to find old Iver Johnson or Harrington & Richardson revolvers for $100-$150, but some of those are chambered in uncommon calibers. Some of them are actually old enough that they were made for black powder and modern ammo could blow them up. I would just stick with the 9mm Hi Point.
