Greetings /k/. Between an AR-15, a scoped hunting rifle, and a 12 gauge shotgun, which is the most important long gun to have for a SHTF scenario? Also recommendations needed, I have a $1,000 budget for weapon stuff.

Scoped AR

You don't need a hunting rifle to kill most game in North America

White tail and brown bear are still dead with .233

AR-15 is the undisputed STHF king. To say otherwise means you're a fucking retard.

It'll work if you get a headshot, and you'll want to go for headshots anyway because a torso wound from anything shy of a .50BMG isn't going to stop a grizzly before it mauls you.

Meant to say black,

Sorta this

.308 or more tho for browns

Are bears even in the top 5 most populous game species in the lower 48?

Alaska may be an exception but not the rest of the country.

>brown bear decides to charge
>I hope I can hit it in its head
>doesn't matter that I'm using 55gr .223, anything shot of .50 would have this same result

Just...buy an AR15. Really.

I mean, a torso shot with a .308 will probably kill it, eventually, but if you don't drop it inside of 10 seconds when it's coming at you you're gonna get fucked up. I think what matters is to have a semiauto, any semiauto, that you can magdump at it and hope for the best.

Brown bears and white tails can be killed with .233 ARs? Those sound amazing, where can I find a .233 upper?
>>
>>30660539
Scoped AR-15. The only reason people aren't hunting deer with .223 AR-15s in fifty states is stupid local laws banning rifle hunting outright, or requiring a 6mm minimum caliber.
>>

In SHTF, the correct choice of rifle is one that chambers the rounds your government's military uses

In America that means an AR

Friends.

>headshot
>brown bear

The skull is the hardest and thickest bone in a bear's body, not to mention the smallest target. You're gonna aim for that as it's charging you at 30mph? You're supposed to go for vital organs numbnuts.
