ok, so i want to go deer hunting this fall. in Michigan if you live below a certain parallel in the state, you can only hunt with shotgun an straight walled cartridges. so, what are my options? i was thinking something like pic related.

Henry's are nicely made, but no loading gate.

Not a major detriment in a hunting situation.

True, but I like having them, it's just practical to have, like on a shotgun.

Having to load by the muzzle is like going back to the days of muskets, having an actual breech with cartridges was supposed to be one of the big reasons to move away from that.

Again, they're alright rifles, but that lack of real reloading is keeping me from them.

>>30660324
I beg your pardon?

>>30660672
Probably something really fucking stupid.
Like, in Delaware, you're not allowed to hunt with ANY rifles, only shotguns.

Nothing says, however, that you can't have a shotgun with a rifled bore and then use a specialized spitzer-like slug made for rifled bore and basically have a huge bore rifle, pic related.
It's a bolt-action, with a rifled bore, but it's 20-Gauge so it's ok because that's a shotgun.

I was told buy a fun store owner ohio is considered too "flat"

40-65 too

Basically sportsmanship, ethics, and population management. Basically it's easier to bag deer with long range cartridges. Same reason bow and spear season is longer than rifle season.
>>
>>30661516
>It's more ethical to bleed a deer with arrows before stabbing it to death with a spear than it is to take it down with a single long-range shot
I do eventually want to try my hand at spear hunting, but this is just plain dumb.

Unless you live in Ohio specifically, .450 bushmaster is pretty good for a few reasons, primarily being the cheapest of the big AR15 rounds.

Otherwise I would go with a.357 or.44 mag. Both are plenty for deer at reasonable ranges
>>
>>30660824
That was strangely accurate and specific knowledge of the first state....... where are you from roughly?
>>
I like .44 Magnum from a rifle around 100 yards on deer sized game; you can go further, but trajectory becomes an issue (power is still there, of course)

Rifles are light and compact; recoil is light and noise isn't bad
>>
Ruger Model 44. It's like if a 10/22 shot 44 magnum, because that's exactly what it is.
>>
>>30664190
Aren't those really hard to find now ?
>>
>>30664669
Ruger do surveys of what people want to see made next, and I'm pretty sure this or it's .357 friend were voted at the top.
>>
>>30664669
They're on Gunbroker but I've never seen one in a store.
>>
>>30664669
yes
>>
>>30664703
I'd be fucking diamonds if they made a .357/ .38 autoloader like that.
>>
>>30661532
Eh, it's mostly done to prevent over hunting or some logic like that.

>Rifles make hunting easier, so more people can/will hunt and deer population takes its greatest hit.
>Fewer people use spears/bows to hunt, so it's okay for them to hunt longer and they're less efficient so even less environmental concern.

Government doesn't really give a shit about animals well being anyways.
>>
>>30663930
Not Delaware.
I just saw a video of one of those rifled shotguns (by some guy in Delaware) and thought they were a cool way to get around retarded state laws he described.

I like guns which are made to circumvent legalities, and there's something cool about a bolt-action rifle with a huge bore putting out a huge projectile.

Leverevolution loads can reach a bit farther I'd guess.

>>30664190
The later Ruger Deerfield is a bit better.

If they made one with a 10rd magazine available it'd be perfect.
