Ask and answer stupid questions.
What's the difference between a battle rifle and an AR? And are ACRs any good?
>>
>>30657862
ARs use intermediate cartidges like 5.56, 5.45, 6.8 SPC, 7.62x39, etc
BRs use full length rifle cartidges like 7.62x51 NATO
ACRs are OK, but are overpriced and lack many of the features that were supposed to make them unique.
>>
>>30657862
The ar is an armalite pattern rifle.....

A battle rifle is a shoulder fired rifle in a full size cartridge.

He meant Assault Rifle, obviously.

It's also worth noting that the term "Battle Rifle" may be used for rifles that aren't semi or full auto.

The MAS-36, for instance, would be considered a battle rifle by many.
>>
where do i start in getting stuff to clean and maintain my guns? how do i get rid of and prevent scratches on my carry guns?
>>
>>30658181
I've always made the distinction that a BR is a semi or full auto rifle in a full sized cartridge, while bolt guns are infantry rifles

Here's one for the future of combat.
Will soldiers use exosuits and adaptive camouflage or will it be to expensive and only SpecFor rely on future tech? And for that matter, what about tanks and aircrafts, will they use adaptive camouflage or only specific units?
I ask this because there's been headway made at the technology and there's been talks on having the standard soldier use such equipment.
>>

Doesn't sound cost effective... I'm betting it'll be for special forces only

I do hope people on /k/ know AR does not stand for assault rifle.
>>
>>30659219
yeah but it pretty much does
>>
>>30659155
Adaptive camouflage is a meme.

"Exo suits" are purposefully being designed for average infantry use. The point is that soldiers can carry full packs without getting awful back problems and joint issues by the time they leave the force, and that soldiers could move more effectively in full battle rattle. Basically lessening their burdens, not making them physically faster or stronger.
>>
>>30659240
Sounds lame when you put it that way, I thought it would make you punch harder run faster and breath better.
>>
>>30659262
Real life is lame, this isn't a video game.

Personally, the idea of being able to carry 180 pounds of shit and have it feel like 30 pounds excites the hell out of me, but I guess that's just the way it is.
>>
>>30659155
The thing about general issue camouflage is that it makes no difference in 75% of situations soldiers face on the modern battlefield. That is to say, as long as it breaks up your outline and remotely matches the terrain, it's going to perform as well as any other pattern meeting the same criteria. Issuing an expensive active camo system to general infantry is spending a ton of money for negligible gain, if any at all.

As far as vehicles, stealth tech is essentially what you're talking about and it exists already.

Let me break out the image. Those numbers were off the top of my head, so I may be remembering wrong, but when you march through the mountains in a place like Afghanistan, you can't take vehicles, so you're basically bound to what you can carry on your backs. On multi day marches, you gotta carry all your food, water, gear, shit gets heavy.
>>
>>30659340
Shlepping ammo boxes, crates, mortar rounds, artillery shells, etc. with a team doesn't sound like a picnic to me, much less by myself. If I can get the help, even in a suit, I'll take it.

Why do niggers love .40 so much? Serious question, is there actually a reason that .40 is so beloved by niggers? It's not like they'd care about any real advantages ballistics wise.
>>
>>30659375
Maybe you shouldn't be fighting an endless war in Afghanistan that we're losing. Also that pack makes no sense why can't you drive up the mountain your just as exposed.
>>
>>30659416
its a rap meme. 40 is useless.
>>
>>30659421
I seriously hope you're not actually this stupid. Outside of the completely unrelated endless war comment (which makes me believe you're just trolling and not actually mentally retarded), most random mountains in bumfuck Hajistan don't have access roads or lovely vehicle trails. Try taking your car up the side of a steep and uneven hill sometime, then tell me how you had to walk home.

I'm getting ready to build an AR-15 from an 80% lower. I'm fairly new to guns in general, but I'm anticipating a SHTF sort of happening soon and I don't think my dad's 12 gauge and .22 hunting rifle aren't going to cut it.

Anyway, I've got two questions:

1. Is there a particular brand you guys would recommend for 80% lowers? I'm aware that I can just Google 80% lowers and buy one, but I'm afraid of spending a good chunk of money on a piece of shit, and this is something that isn't mentioned in the sticky.

2. What exactly does completing an 80% lower entail? I'd look into this myself, but I'm on mobile and at work, so I can't really dig into it very much until I'm off. I've read threads in the past where people have mentioned that the only tools you really need. Is that true? Because I have both, so I'm hoping it is.
>>

>I've read threads in the past where people have mentioned that the only tools you really need
Fuck, I meant to add "are a drill press and a vice. "

How likely is it that I'm going to fuck up an 80% lower build? I'm getting the easy jig but I've no machining experience whatsoever.

Your average civilian semi autos aren't assault rifles, but when a gun has a option to be set to fully automatic, they are by definition a assault rifle.

It was clear he was talking about fully automatic guns, you fucking retard.

Nothing wrong with wikipedia. Third party test have shown that it has on average 1 more error than encyclopedia Britannica per article and that for scientific articles is often more up to date because of the ability for it to be edited by professionals.

It's the accepted definition.

>The designation of battle rifle is usually given to post-World War II SELECT FIRE infantry rifles such as the FN FAL, the M14, BM59 and the H&K G3.[1] This term also describes older military full-powered SEMI-AUTOMATIC rifles such as the M1 Garand, the MAS-49 and the FN-49.

>>30657862
there were a lot of issues with the first batch. supposedly they fixed them, but the damage was already done, then you add on the salt to the wound of Remington/bushmaster promising all this cool stuff and NEVER delivering on it.

wait for the FB Radom MSBS. but that is looking ot be at least two years out.(they're trying to get the Polish mil. contract, then fill said contract before they start with civilian sales. they already have a facility set up here in the states for when they do start shipping them in.)
>>
>>30660334
It does have a buffer. the tab to unlock the stock swivels off of it. BUT it is about at least 1/3 shorter than a solid stock buffer so recoil tends to be a hair harsher. life span is about the same.

>>
>>30659728
The answer is yes for the WM, depends for .308, you will want to have a grain weight sub 180 or so for .308. there just isn't powder in the cartridge to push a large bullet at useful speeds if you get too large, also you will get longer bullets pushed into your powder, which can be bad.

K98
>>
>>30661757
I am by no means a bow expert but i don't think you can get a decent quality bow for under $250.

Also compound bows need to have draw length set which usually requires a bow press. Most shops will do it for free if you buy the bow there. I would offer to take her to pick out a bow for her birthday. Or just buy her a .22 and be done with it.

I too am trying to assemble a WW2 rifle collection. I'd go with a k98 for the sake of WW2. M48s are good guns too (they're the fucking same), but lack the history and I don't think a WW2 collection would be complete without a K98

Wikipedia is great. But it should never be referred to as a definitive authority. To do so would be to literally let your perspective be defined by unscrupulous powers.
