In /k/'s opinion, how much of a good shot does someone need to be before you can entrust them with a weapon to protect you and your party?
Any tips on safely redpilling the neighbors into stockpiling food, water, seeds, guns and ammo without them going "Haha We don't need to, we'll just stay at your house XD!" ?
My plan is to help arm the neighbors, farm the backyards, build roadblocks, and razor wire the subdivision's perimeter wall.

Start with a block party. Get the permits, do it right. This will let you know who on your street can/will work together right away. It gets everyone together even those on the fence or refuse. A group social setting will be a better chance to bring it up than flyers or door to door. Start out with a phone tree of your neighbors for emergencies/more block parties. Then from this you will find those who may be up for a neighborhood watch (those go to the top of the phone tree, they may be into a volunteer fire brigade.
Now you got a list of potential range buddies.
After that the weekend adventure club, camping, hiking, orienteering, shooting etc.
Do this in gradual steps.

You don't need to be a good shot to supress. You barely need to shoot at all to draw fire. Minimal instruction and basic personal trust means he can have a gun.
Now trusting them not to fuck up and/or run in the face of fire is a different thing, being a good shot is only the first requirement here.

Dont invade their space. Set up a box in your front yard as a "tiny community library" leave one shelf with that stuff, fill the rest with good books/movies to share and bring them to you. When that time comes obvious will be the point. For now preplan where treestands could be set up, whos yard has a good view with a ladder to peek over walls, sheds and roofs. Which roofs could be connected with ladder bridges (if packed that tight).
Ever think about a ring code that could be clanked out with a pan ? A series of two rings = general to arms check your yard, three = trouble, four = fire.

Don't stay in your neighborhood, or don't be in it while The Happening is in-progress. It'll probably be the site of looting, murder, rape, and other shit you can possibly comprehend while everyday people lose the things they took for granted. Then, when it comes to your family or SO, you need to be fairly confident of their reliability and ability to shoot decent groupings and basic firearms safety.

That said, most of the times when shit hits the fan, it will most likely be something like the Argentinian or Greek economic collapses.

Ideally your compound should be out of sight. They can't raid you if they can't find you. Otherwise you want the high ground with high thick walls. Think castles and shiieeet
People will always take the path of less resistance to get to you, so lining that path with gunfire and traps is a good idea. Think bottle neck fortification.
Really look at old star Fortifications to get a good idea. A good fort is worthless without advanced notice of their arrival though. You can have a 20 foot wall, and if you don't have anyone to watch it an enemy will scale it and slit your throat while you sleep.
When planning your compound, make them follow a path, and you can control their advances.

Garbage bags rip very fast when filled with soil. Even heavy duty ones. Try out some gardening/landscaping type stuff you'll find out real quick.

Cont. Because I'm still raging. The first thing you need to do when planning anything, especially survival is scope. A good pack should only be designed for 72 hours, not long term woods survival. That list is huge, terrible shit in a 72 hour scenario, in any 72 hour scenario.
