>am I an idiot?

Yeah, but not because you want to buy an APC.
>>
>>30653210
I for one would not trust a man who did not want to buy an APC.

Bingo

if you can afford it no, that's a perfectly reasonable purchase

Hijacking this thread

Dinko Valev has been using a MT-LB (vehicle in OP's picture) to hunt down immigrants on Bulgaria's south border.

Is a tracked APC the best kind of vehicle for this job? Could he have done better with his vehicle choice?

if you understand the importation process, are mechanically competent enough to do frequent maintenance/repairs, and are committed to the never-ending search for spare parts, then no, you aren't an idiot. Keep in mind that spares are hard to find for anything from WARPAC if you live in the US.

>inb4 Soviet reliability meme
>m-muh BMP/MT-LB can run when it's beat to shit so I will never have to perform any preventative maintenance
nigga I understand that they can be abused but if you want your vehicle to run smoothly and not break down constantly then you need to be willing to get your hands dirty.

Honestly you'd be probably be better off with the attached pic.

>>30653244
noice. I'd rather use a UAZ though.

MT-LB is amphibious and it off road performance is top tier
and you can fit 13 man inside that thing

Yeah but that 'thing' looks like shit and soviet shit looks bad ass.

>he fell for the BTR-60 meme
have fun trying to tune the dual engines on that thing, it's a major pain in the ass.

Meanwhile, the Ferret has a common-or-garden Roller flat-six. Not terribly difficult to work on if you are mechanically-inclined.

Buy a T-55 instead
>>
>>30653467
There is no problem to install a single diesel engine (KamAZ-7403 or YaMZ-236) on it.

Not a chance in hell. Perhaps in an emergency but I still doubth it. And yes, I have been inside a MT-LB quite a few times.

This. Just replace the engine.

I'd love to have a T-55, T-62, or an M48 Pattn as a gate guard.

You're an idiot, but you should still buy an APC.
