anybody heard of the osório tank?
>>
Just another failed export tank.
>>
>>30644401
>export tank.
because my governament is shit, and the US din't let anyone buy it. btw: on a competition crated by saudi arabia, the osório proved better than the abrams.
>>
>>30644512
that was years ago, let it go man
>>
>>30644540
well, it would be nice to have it back.
>>
>>30644512
Which was why the Saudi's chose the Abrams.
>>
>>30644512
Why didn't you buy it then?
>>
>>30644606
idk which was, but it was on 1980s, they din't chose the osório because the US acused brazil of negotiating with the enemy. that's what i hear of.
>>
>>30644777
Sounds like the lies of a poor loser.
>>
>>30644797
then why would saudi arábia not chose the osório?
>>
>>30644797
Sounds like bullshit.

Brazil is a lot like Russia, making grandiose claims and coming up with conspiracy theories every-time something doesn't go their way.

When their space-program failed and killed everyone on the ground, they naturally blamed US-CIA.

Saudi didn't chose the Osorio because it probably sucked. It was not chosen for service in Brazil, and was going to have questionable support and few if any life-cycle upgrades.
>>
>>30644278
Sparky/Blacktaildefense likes it for some reason.

Yes and the Abram got upgraded multiple times since then.

I doubt the Osorio would have gotten anything. It would have been outdated within a decade of purchase.
>>
>>30644905
well if someone bought the tank they would be getting upgrades, but no one bought it and it just became scrap for the US to use it's parts.

The Saudis didn't choose the osorio because aside from the tank itself, the Brazilian arms manufacturers couldn't offer much more, while if the Saudis pusharced the Abrams they would also have some deal on American small arms, and other equipaments.

Its was probably to the best, for the Saudis, as the Brazilian company that made the osorio had betted all what they had left on that tank and wasnt going well economically, so it is very possible that the company would broke anyway, even if they made a deal with the Saudis, and the Saudis would be left without someone to give maintenance support and spare parts for them.
>>
>>30645011
and brazil din't help the company, good thing the company is alive.
>>
>>30645047
>good thing the company is alive

Nope, ENGESA unfortunately is not alive anymore, it closed down back in 1993, with a pending debt of 2 billion with the government. There was news that the Airbus Group was planning in resurrecting the company Engesaer, but nothing was said about it, for already quite a time.

How good was that tank? Any specs about it, anon?

Also did they upgrade it in any way during all these years? you know, Osorio rev A B C etc.
>>
>>30645326
well shit, at least some countries still use their vehicles.
>>
>>30645439
they din't because they were broke.

its price, its mobility and its weight.

So literally no data about it other than it was super good but somehow no one used and the company is broke?
>>
>>30645566
see this >>30645011
and after the osório Project they were broke.
>>
>>30644512

In what aspects, may I ask?

Osorio was roughly comparable to a late model, up armored Leopard 1.

It was light, cheap, and was protected against intermediate level threats (RPGs, old ATGMs, and old 105 sabots).

The turret was big enough to be fitted with a 120mm gun at the cost of reducing gun depression. Just like the Leopard 1, it was not armored enough to protect against top of the line AT munitions. It's estimated that the Osorio has adequate CE protection but abysmal KE protection.

All in all would not be a bad tank for the middle east/poorer NATO countries.

However, by the time that the Osorio was mature enough to sell, the Cold War was over and Germany/Russia were dumping their Leopard 2/T-72's onto the market at below production prices. The Osorio could not compete, and the two companies that dumped their money into it's production filed for bankruptcy.

>>30644512
It wasn't superior, it was just cheaper and lighter.
Everyone in the mideast bought Challys and Abrams after 1991, which basically served as a great big advertisement for the two anglo MBT's
