What's the difference between a .223 and a .556
>>
Some differences in the throat of the accepted spec of the rounds' chambers and a different max pressure rating.

As far as I know.
>>
>>30643643
One is little bullet, one is big bullet.
>>
>>30643643
.223's bullet diameter is .223 inches while .556's diameter is .556 inches

the difference between .223" Remington and 5.56x45mm NATO is maximum allowed chamber pressure

Thanks
>>
5.56 is for military only, as it has a brain seeking core and it has full Metal hollow point bore control, so it can peirce anything. .223 is for hunting only, and isn't lethal to humans

if it's called 5.56x45mm NATO, wouldn't that mean that the diameter is 5.56 inches?
>>

Are you to retarded to know what mm on the end stands for?
>>
.223 has the power of 3 .22's. Needless to say that's about as powerful as one 9mm, so not very. You can use it for flyswatting at the very least.

5.56 has the power of 5 full sized .56 rounds. A .56 is almost the same as a .223, so it has the power of five 9mm bullets. This is dangerous because 9mm is the velociraptor of bullets: they work better in groups. The bullet will break apart and come at you from multiple angles at high speeds. Remember, velociraptor has two key words: velocity and rape.

1. it's .223 Remington (a SAAMI spec) and 5.56x45mm (a NATO spec).

The specifications are slightly different. The allowable tolerance on the dimensions are different for each specification although the overall dimensions are essentially the same (with one major exception). The major exception is that the throat length of the 5.56x45 NATO chamber is longer to allow for tracer bullets. The .223 SAAMI specification has a very short throat for varmint bullets but there are very few rifles built today with a traditional .223 SAAMI chamber, most are some hybrid of a .223/5.56 chamber so that they don't get sued when bubba sticks a tracer in his varmint rifle.

Pressure is not necessarily different on the specifications between .223 Remington SAAMI and 5.56x45mm NATO but the way they measure pressure is quite different. This means that pressure for two examples of commercial (.223/5.56) ammo MAY be different, but it may not be. MOST firearms designed to shoot .223 will have no problem handling the range of pressures that could be seen across all .223/5.56 ammo a person could procure.

Lastly a chamber is cut by a reamer made by a company interpreting the SAAMI or NATO specification, so each reamer is a bit different depending on the interpretation, meaning many chambers are a bit different than "spec". This is why some ammo works better in gun A vs gun B.

"Went to college" not "graduated from college" nor "am going to college"

And your 5.56 inches was more shit posty than anything i said.

Maybe retard was too kind, youre more of a dumb cunt.

not actually OP of this thread just forgot to change name.
>>
Let's see if anybody can actually answer this question

If you take a .223 case and stuff it with a 55 grain fmj boat tail bullet, can that correctly be called m193?

Or is it still just some basic bitch .223 until it has the proper case?

Same, if you shoved a 62gr penetrator in .223 does that make it m855
>>
>>30643944
Case wall thickness does vary between 5.55 and 223. H20 capacoty changes with it. Which is qhy you dont mix the brass, expecially if youre doing hot loads.
>>
>>30643944
Read
>>30643742

The differences are almost always vastly overstated. I mix brass and my load is an overbook 77gr load, I've never had a problem. Sometimes you will see issues when the stars align and you are running an overmax load and you get some special snowflake pre 80s LC brass that is uber thick. But that's only when you are already reloading enough to know not to do something like that.

M193 and M855 are ordered part numbers, no matter what you are doing you aren't "making" those. You are certainly making clones though by sticking the right bullet over a suitable charge of the right powder into whatever case you have on hand at the moment. Your "clones" will show up on target in -near as makes no difference- the same place as factory m193 or m855.
>>
The differences are of subtle definitions (shocker I know).

If I have a 5.56NATO chambered rifle, and I take a factory .223 load, shoot it through the rifle then take the brass and resize it knocking the shoulder back .002" then stuff a 55gr FMJ on top of 24.5gr of Ramshot Tac I've just made a clone of M193 that matches my 5.56 chamber more closely than any factory 5.56x45 NATO ammo.

Once you begin to reload you'll start to discover that in many ways you can either make "factory" ammo by sizing brass to the specification, and stuffing a bullet into it at a COAL of the specification and trying to match the FPS of the commercial ammo; OR you can make a pseudo-wildcat by sizing brass to your chamber specifically, loading the bullet to a jump that it and your chamber likes and then putting enough powder behind it that it moves at the muzzle velocity that you want to move it. This round isn't really a .223 Remington or 5.56x45mm spec round at all, but it will be very reliable and accurate in your rifle. It's not a wildcat because it is very close to the specifications but it isn't a spec load either.

Most hunting specific loads and target specific loads (unless part of the spec) are not actually spec ammo, but rather divergences that the companies are comfortable selling because they won't nuke bubba's rifle.

When the fuck do you ever have a part of a machine that is labeled "5 inches by 40 millimeters"?

YOU DON'T. FOR A REASON. THEY AREN'T MIXED, FOR A REASON.

Measure and show me. In my experience this is not the case.

CBC, TAA, PPU, PMC, GFL, LC03-16, WCC, Win Commercial, SAKO, Remington, Hornady

All check out to be very close to each other in H2O capacity in my tests.

5.56 is loaded a little hotter, and the case is thicker compared to .223 remington

5.56x45 produces more pressures than .223

tl;dr use the ammo your gun is chambered for.
