This might get me laughed at, but anyone ever bought a firearm from a pawnshop? Regrets, advice, alternatives? I'm just curious
>>
I don't think someone ever plans to purchase a gun at a pawn shop because you can't be sure of their stock.

They can be good for looking around and seeing if they've underpriced something because they're not familiar with it, but they wouldn't be a first choice.

Is the idea that the guns are often used in crimes true? Or is it more an old stereotype?...also, are they any cheaper than going to an actual gun store or not enough to matter?

Bought this M500 for $175, came with this furniture, one of those magpul forends/black houge stock, and a short cylinder bore barrel.

Only downside was that whatever redneck owned this gun previously apparently never cleaned it once, and instead of putting a normal duck plug in, just glued a wooden dowel into the mag tube, so that took 4+ hours of cleaning and a new spring, but it runs like a dream now.

If you find a gun that looks good, ask them if you can inspect it first. Look for defects, cracks, pitting, all that jazz, you might even be able to hebrew them down a bit if you can haggle well.

I would imagine a reputable one would run the serial number to see about stolen, as for crime involvement, it isn't like the movies where guns can be traced.

Pawn shops here (ky) sell brand new guns along side used ones. I bought a Remington 1911 R1 new at a pawnshop for 550. Bought ammo there a few times also. One place had an unfired Jennings (lol) for 40 bucks so I bought it as a laugh, a box of bullets (.380) cost almost as much as the gun. Sometimes they have nicer guns people have sold, but they want new gun price on used guns.

>stolen
Mostly an old stereotype. Most states have pretty strict rules about pawnshop documentation so trying to pawn high dollar serialized stolen items is a good way to get busted. In my state they have to document valuable items (serials, and copies of pawner ID, and provide a catalogue to the police before being able to sell it)

I know their is a conception that pawn brokers are shady, but fucking around with federal gun laws is a death sentence , at least for your dog.

Every pawn shop I have been to had total shit for guns. 90 percent of the inventory is 150 dollar sears shotguns and overpriced Milsurp. The few decent guns are pants-potato pricing. They know who they are selling to.

I'm sure this varies shop to shop, I am basing this on the 10 or so I have wandered into
>>
>>30638312
The pawn shop is required to notify the police. However, the police aren't required to give a shit enough to bother checking the list of items reported stolen. They're too busy babysitting stop lights. And of course they aren't aware of any that are not yet discovered missing.

Most of the pawn shops in this area are filled with power tools. Addicts can't get a decent job, and end up doing contractor work. They'll then walk off the job with someone else's power tools and pawn them for cash to spend at the local sidewalk pharmacy.
>>
bought a S&W .380 when I was 21. it was a horrible purchase, i knew nothing about guns at the time. didn't even google the price or inspect it. i offloaded it to someone on CL for $40 less than I paid and have never done it again. Why go to a pawn shop when I can get any Glock tax free for $430. slickguns gets you a 6920 delivered for 200-350 less than anywhere in town including pawn shops.

The internet is the only way to go. Find a place that does low price FFLs and fuck brick and mortar shops.
>>
My pawn shop had a chink SKS with grenade launcher for $600.

When i pointed out that the barrel was a rusty pile of shit and the action was scratched up from them trying to use steel wool to remove the rust and was STILL rusted shut he offered to come down to "$580 including tax!"

I go there to find decent tools crackheads steel and sell for crack money and they have movies for a buck a pop.

Though over the years i have found a gem or 2 of a gun in there that he dident know what he had.

No it hasn't. I keep seeing you guys posting that Mosin's haven't been $80 or whatever in like 8 years and it's just flat false, they were 80-100 until about 3.5 years ago and then they went to 120-140 about 2.5 years ago. It's only been the last like 18 months that they've been regularly $200+.

my local pawnshops have regular shipments of guns, glock, rock island, browning, ruger, mossberg, etc can be found new in box there.

WA here, my experiences with pawnshops has roughly been the same. Anything remotely tacticool is marked way up. Any milsurp they have has probably been bubba'd and is marked up. Pistols are usually less then 10% off their MSRP if not being sold as the same price as new.

There might be good deal or two to be found among the walls of durr rifles and hunting shotguns, but I don't know enough about either to suss it out if it is there.

I still stop by from time to time, but I never get my hopes up.

Milsurp guy here, in my buying heyday I bought probably half of my collection from pawn shops. Like 2006-2011, before prices and awareness went up. If you went to enough shops enough times you found good deals, or a Finn Mosin priced as a 91/30 refurb. Or a g43 for $600. Or an sVT for $550. Or an arisaka with a stuck bolt for $50. Or a perfect gew98 for $170 with bayonet. Good times.

My house got burglarised and guns stolen. Took my list of serial numbers to every pawn shop in town the next day. Coming out of the biggest one run into the guy I'm 99% sure did my house going in. Fucker got busted later and I got my guns back. Probably prevented their sale by running into the faggot outside that store and telling him what I was doing.

Only other pawn shop story is trying to pawn my Russian army stamped SKS and getting told they'd only give me like $30 for it.
>>
>>30636999
Prices usually are more expensive vs used items at gun store. First hand experience of buying a pistol with a cracked guide rod, cheap fix but annoying that I didn't inspect thoroughly enough. Onlt benefit of a pawnshop is you can trade misc crap for a gun but you'll always spemd/trade more than the actual thing is worth.

So avoid pawnshops. Use gunbroker, armslist, gunshow. Fuck a pawnshop unless you have a garage full of crap you want to get fleeced for in order to get a gun.

I have a friend who's parents own a pawn shop. He told me one day some druggie came in with a Arisaka Type 38 and a box of ammo. Forgot how much he sold it to the for, and his parents gave him the rifle. Unfortunately I don;t have pics, or remember any major details other than it had a partially defaced Imperial Chrysanthemum (Half of it was covered by some metal piece that was melted onto the rifle.)

He also got a .22 Henry rifle, though that was in much shitty condition.

I've had pawn shops go either way. Ironically, the shadiest one I can think of had the highest prices, and I'm pretty sure that had to do with an occasional waiving of the 4473 requirement.

There are lots of legit shops out there, though, that will do things like $10 transfers, and that often have crazy good deals on things they neither fully appreciate nor care about (Performance Center S&Ws priced the same as regulars), but that they accepted for pawn/consignment.

Dude. Just find a local FFL who will receive for you. They don't necessarily have to be a store. I would contact them first and make sure they are cool with it. Many online gun dealers (like classicfirearms) have directories of people who they have shipped to with a list of prices and such.

Then, you can buy online. I have bought 2 guns from stores ever in my whole life. The rest have been from online dealers. Classic at one point was the best place to get good deals, but they have a relatively normal inventory these days.
>>
>>30640831

>>30638647
pawnshops are ffls, have things sent there from online, theyll probably charge you a $20-30 transfer fee, but thats normal.
>>
I tend to find like-new 15+ year old guns at pawnshops; got an immaculate H&R 929, a Norinco SKS-D that'd never been shot as far as I could tell (got it with a 40 round mag, during the Sandy Hook panic buying, at that), and a really well cared for Winchester 1300 Defender

There's a pawnshop that's a regular gun shop too. But they charge 170 for transfer and 50 for a release fee.

They work a deal with you if you buy something there, but won't give discounts to military or law enforcement.

I bought the Glock 19 I have carried for the last 4 years at a pawn shop.
The nice part about pawn shops is if you come up short on something they are far more willing to take things on trade.
When I got my Glock I had only 400 bucks, but I also traded a 26" flat screen TV that I had found and repaired to get to the 525 I needed. Also every now and then you find shit you just want.
