New one is up.

I'm in the market for a Marlin Model 60. Are the new manufactured ones still ok or is it best to buy one pre-2006?
>>
>>30636889
Older is always better for Marlin.
>>
Thinking of buying a bullpup.

Is the Kel-Tec RFB any good?

I don't live in the US, and legal bullpup options are very limited here. Of all the ones available, I'm really interested in the RFB, mainly because it's chambered in .308 (most bullpups here are chambered in .223 or 12 gauge).

My second question: in terms of practicality, is hunting with a bullpup viable?
>>
>>30636889
Older ones are such good deals. They get shot and never cleaned so they start jamming. Fudds dump them, you can get 'em cheap. Clean and adjust for the win.

I have a new one and had an older one.

The older one felt a lot better, but the newer one is fine for a new shooter.
>>
>>30636889
I love the old marlin 60.

I went to the local "big name" shop and found one from the late 80's which had the long barrel with the full length tube.

Cleaned it up and it works great. Got it for $45
>>
>>30636889
What's the value of a MAK-90 that has the 3rd pin hole with a rivet in it? Does anyone know anything about them?
>>
>>30637077
1. The Kel-Tec RFB is a myth, The only guns Kel-Tec actually makes are the PF9 and the P3AT but they lie and make up fake photoshopped images and videos with cool new weapon designs to get their company name out there. If anyone tells you they one time saw anything other than a PF9 or a P3AT in a gunstore then they are secretly an undercover Kel-Tec PR employee and you should report them to the authorities.

2. Theres nothing wrong with hunting with a bullpup why would there be?
>>
Speaking of Marlin, I have an old Marlin 20-A that I'd like to disassemble and clean and fix a problem with the tube. It doesn't latch. Anyone know where I could find a disassembly manual or something on it? I can't seem to find one.
>>
I've got a budget of $1000, I want a rifle in either .223 or .308, of course I'm thinking of AR-15, FAL, M1A, but what other guns should I look into?
>>
>>30638710
AR-180
>>
other than the SW MP 9c

which other pistols are most like a Glock 19?
>>
>>30638710
If you are a man living in America and you dont own an AR-15 then secretly other men laugh at you behind you back because you are not a true man or a true American. Go find good deals on a quality lower and upper and then peice the rest of the parts together with whatever the fuck you think looks cool. Ar-15s are the most popular weapon here and literally every single gun company makes parts for it and they are the cheapest they will be right now because of election time coming up soon.

If you have a budget of 1k then you do not fucking want a .308, the gun alone will run you over 1k and the cheapest plinking ammo is TWICE as expensive as the cheapest .223.
>>
>>30636889
Either or. I've got a newer one and an older one. Just make sure if you buy used you check the ejector/lifter spring and change out the buffer if need be.

It can be a pain in the ass to do the buffer but YouTube has all the videos.
>>
>>30636889
Tried asking this in the AR thread a bit ago, but might as well post about:

Hey. I'm super new to ARs, but I'm looking to put together a 308.

What's a good place to start? I'd prefer to go with an 80% lower, and do it relatively cheaply. I looked up some videos of people drilling some lowers out with hand drills and routers, so it doesn't seem terribly hard, just time consuming - but I'm not really sure what to look out for when finding compatible parts, or what is considered a decent price.
>>
>>30638780
So after I build my AR-15, what else should I look at owning?
>>
>>30638807
>>30638780
Oh hey, I didn't read the thread. That's good to know. Fuck 308 then... My budget is also about 1000
>>
>>30638838
A quality optic, be it 1x red dot or a magnified scope because this isnt the 80's and iron sights are for backup.

Also a thousand rounds of Tula atleast, goo deal is around 21 cents per round shipped so about 210 bucks for 1k.
>>
>>30638807
If you're super new, you really shouldn't start with an 80% lower, because if you fuck something up it'll be an uphill battle to recognize and fix it.

Ar-10s aren't standardized the way the ar-15 is

There's DPMS pattern (more popular) and Armalite pattern. You can google images of AR-10s from each company and compare them to see the differences.

>>30638857
>Fuck 308 then... My budget is also about 1000
PSA has some good stuff, I've heard. But yeah, start off with a plain-Jane ar-15 in 5.56 ... You'll like it more than you think you will.
>>
>>30638879
What are some decent optics to look at? Say around $300?

>If you're super new, you really shouldn't start with an 80% lower, because if you fuck something up it'll be an uphill battle to recognize and fix it.
Well I live in California, so I kinda wanna build it...

Are there and decent non-pistol grip stocks? (for circumventing current bullet button laws, and just for curiosity's sake)
>>
>>30638942
Ares SCR lower. That's the only non-abortion of a stock.

If I were you, however, I wouldn't give a good god-damn about complying with those laws. They're useless and a burden on everyone, regardless of what your legislature thinks.
>>
>>30638901
Youd have to narrow it down to what youre looking for in an optic. If were talking 1x red dots around 300$? Aimpoints are king of red dots but even used aimpoint h1's go for 400-450 easy, I'd stay away from Eotech because of them being shady as absolute fuck about their holo optics delaminating and leaking pressure. Primary arms MD-ADS is solid and runs about 170$.

Whatever you do do not fucking cheap out on the mount, maybe see if you can go into a gunstore or range and try some optics out to see what you like.
>>
>>30638955
That's actually a nice looking stock. Trigger looks like a tad bit of a stretch, but I'd have to hold it...

Yah, the laws are bullshit but I need to take the gun to a public range to shoot, and I'm still not sure how sane people are here. I don't come from CA, and I don't want people telling authorities for whatever asinine reason they have (personal accountability or what-have-you).

I was on another board arguing about gun control and I posited the definition of a machine gun as being a fully automatic rifle that's belt fed.

Naturally someone objected to the "belt fed" part of my definition; but it got me thinking how many machine guns are there that aren't belt fed. The only one I could think of was the old Soviet Degtyarev LMG.

So how wrong was I?
>>
>>30639062
There are plenty of magazine fed machine guns. BAR, HK21, Type 96, Type 99, Bren, ZB-26 are all magazine fed.
>>
>>30636889
Theres a nice Universal M1 Carbine for sale at my LGS for $400. Should i get it or is that one of the bad ones?
>>
>>30639062
Quite wrong. Just off the top of my head, non-belt fed machine guns:
-DP28
-Bren
-Chauchat
-Type 99
-Type 96
-Type 92
-Type 11
-Vickers

There are definitely more, these are just the ones I can name right now.
>>
>>30639075
those are all early LMGs or weird quasi battle rifles. also the japs were fucking retarded with machinegun designs.

there is nothing functionally different between a BAR and a M14, but that one was used as a substandard outdated light machine gun and the other was used as a substandard outdated main battle rifle.
>>
Do I need to clean a new 20in m16 barrel after every round?
The company I bought it from said to do that for the 1st 100rds

>BAR

You really consider a BAR a machine gun? I mean it had a 20 round magazine. I'd say it is as Browning labeled it an automatic rifle; but not a machine gun.

>Bren

Bren, I can see it took 100 round mags even though 20 and 30 was more common. Still its pretty far removed from a belt fed machine gun.

>Type 96, Type 99, Type 11

I forgot about those stupid Jap machine guns from WWII. Again though, we're talking 20 and 30 round magazines.

>Chauchat

Should have remembered that abomination.

Honestly automatic rifle seems more accurate for pretty much all of these WWI and WWII era LMGs.

>Vickers

That's belt fed.

Are there any modern magazine fed machine guns? Or are they a relic of the past before everyone started copying the MG-42?

Were they designed like that so it's easier to go prone?

The BAR falls into the category of an LMG.

Also, try the Madsen, the Lewis gun, RPK, L86 LSW, the M249 (if fed from STANAG magazines), and Stoner 63. And many variants of aircraft guns.

Lapping is (as far as I understand) accelerating wear between two surfaces with the aid of an abrasive. It sounds like the RIA 1911s have some problems until the slide wears a bit. If you can save up another $100 you can buy a mil spec Springfield. I have a SA RO Champion and it's never had a single problem since I've owned it.

I finger fucked a RIA and SA when I was looking at 1911s, and I spent the extra money on the Springfield because it didn't feel nearly as chintzy as the RIA.

Factory fresh RIAs have a needlessly tight slide-frame fit, sometimes to the point of faulty operation. You can make this go away by wearing the slide to the frame by a) shooting it a bunch or b) detail stripping the thing, putting lapping compound on the frame rails, and running the slide back and forth until it runs freely. The second process is lapping the slide to the frame; it does the same job of natural wear and tear, but faster.
>>
>>30640043
Is this joke more prevalent in the US or something?

Because in my country, the only Kel-Tec shit I've seen has been nothing but interesting shit. It's not necessarily good shit, but it's interesting.

>SU-16 - a tactifudd .223 rifle that can be folded in half, with a forend that transforms into a bipod, and the stock can hold STANAG magazines inside
>KSG - double-barreled bullpup shotgun
>Sub-2000 - a folding carbine that shoots 9mm out of Glock magazines
Hell, the RFB is probably the most boring when compared to the above examples, but I still want it because I happen to be looking for a bullpup, as well as a .308 hunting rifle.

Anyone know anything about blackheart international? Bought a hungarian underfolder ak-47 from them from a LGS for 620$ a few months back.

>Get it home
>Front sight post is broken
>scratch on the inside of the barrel
>took it to the range, have to ram casings out of the chamber every 2 or 3 rounds
>turns out the chamber was extremely gunked up by something
>several polishings with nail-polish remover and it still gets at least 1 FTE per mag
Haven't been able to shoot lately due to finances, is still probably gunked up a bit and will FTE when i take it to the range.

I ask if anyone has any info/experience with them because my main worry is if the metal work is shit or some other problem i can't see and the gun ends up being a potato.

It's a hungarian parts kit, with the reciever and barrel being make by blackheart.

they suck cause the slides are large
22lr can only push back a certain amount of mass and still run reliably.
on good 22lrs like mkiii or buckmarks this bolt or slide is small and made of steel. the recoil springs are strong. everything is tailored to being a 22lr.
with replicas the slides have to be large to get the look right. this results in them being made of lightweight materials in best case aluminum in worse case some even worse alloy. this leads to slides cracking. you see this in almost all lookalikes since the mass is on the high side of 22lr weight limit the guns tend to be undersprung so they work. some only work with high velocity ammo. since the recoil spring is weak the guns beat the shit out of themselves. they will jam up when dirty way faster than a proper 22 pistol. for example a mkiii will scoff at 1k without cleaning of the shittiest bulk ammo a gsg 1911 will start slowing down around 500 and probably become a jammomatic by the time you hit 1k

Sometimes I wonder if that helps at all.

I've heard about some guy who got shot by a hunter because he was mistaken for a deer.

The guy, who was shot in the leg, wasn't even hunting. He was actually quadding. He was wearing obnoxiously-colored Fox Racing gear, and his ATV was colored very bright and unnatural.

A hunter somehow mistook a brightly-colored human on a brightly-colored vehicle for a dull-colored deer.

Also one of the youtube videos said the Maverick 88 and the 500 are mostly the same gun despite safety placement, is that ture? The $100 price gap seems odd if that's the case.

Can you shoot 38 acp in a 38 super pistol?
>>
>>30636889
No experience with pre-2006 but I'd say as another anon said that they are probably better. I did however buy a new manufactured Model 60, and it works great. Accurate, reliability is great. I've never seen any huge problems with the Marlin rimfires, the 795's my friends had/have weren't perfect but they were worth the money so far as I could tell. Another friend had one of their bolt action .22's and never had trouble with it.

Let's say I have a "pistol". If I use a barrel extension to bring it to a 16" barrel length, and add a stock to bring it to 26" overall, I can swap back and forth between the two modes of rifle and pistol. Right? As long as I don't leave it in the intermediary step which gets dogs shot?

From what I understand. they are both essentially the same gun but i think the Maverick is just a re-brand to knock down the price a bit. I might be wrong though so do some research. Mossberg used to have another re-brand that they sold in department stores in the 70s and 80s that was slightly cheaper simply because it didn't have the Mossberg name.

It's not double barreled. It just feeds from two separate tubes. For the longest time you couldn't even look at them. I see them now for $750 consistently, but when they first came out the gun shop by me was placed on a 9 month back order till they could get a few in. Of which they were already sold
>Sub-2k
I've seen these a lot in the past. Recently though I haven't seen them in while. I think they're in the top 5 semi auto rifles sold on gun broker right now. I did finally get to shoot one, it was actually a shitty experience desu. The .40 kicked more than a super lightweight ar-15 with no muzzle break. Sort of surprised.

Anyhow, their pmr-30 until about a year ago was untouchable below msrp. I haven't seen a single cmr-30 yet. I've only seen one keltec rfb. I don't know if the rdb is out right now.

Sierra Matchking, or really any HPBT match ammo. The hollow point tiny and is intended to change the bullet's balance and aerodynamic properties. Doesn't expand much and isn't recommended for deer, but should work well for coyotes.
You can also get .308 V-max frangibles, that may or may not leave the hide intact the same way a 5.56 V-max would.

Question about 41F:

You need picture/fingerprints of all responsible people in a trust when building/transferring NFA items. BUT if you add a new responsible person to the trust they do not have to submit biometrics for items already possessed by the trust.

So if you're the more private sort of person you can get a trust you trust to buy the things, then join up afterwards for NFA-fun as if 41F never happened.

Correct/Wrong?

I've been trying to find this one rifle...

It was a prototype that some guy developed around the turn of the 20th century as a trial weapon for a military (pretty sure it was US).

It was semi auto, had a tube fed magazine, and a semi exposed action, piston powered. It was too heavy to use and never got much attention. It was almost all metal and kind of funky looking.

Obviously not very known because I've been looking on Google for about 2 hours trying to find it.

Thanks

If it has a soft point, no. Small hollow point, yes. At least as well as .308 can be expected to preserve the hide on something that small. You could try soft point subsonic rounds, but they might not cycle your PTR, and they cost a bit more than Wolf.

Gonna play doubles advocate here. SW is kind of the same way. IIRC correctly the energy output from turbo lasers were equivalent to nukes. Also SW seems to have more reliable tech with regards to ships, hyperspace, shields and weaponry.

I will say that the Imperium would probably stomp the Empire in a ground engagement. 40k's small arms and sheer number of guardsmen definitely outclasses the Empire's. Plus the Imperium has Exterminatus up their sleeve. Assuming battle barges don't destroyed by Star Destroyers.

RFB is alright, at 1.5 MOA or worse, I want more out of a .308, though.

nothing wrong with a bullpup for hunting except for the inherent problems of not being ambi-friendly (for RFB this is not a problem because of forward ejection) if you have to shoot form a weird angle and not (generally) having adjustable length of pull to account for heavy layering of clothing.

Bullpup platforms have some other inherent issues, but those are generally not a problem for hunting.

Over/Under tends to be more expensive than pump actions with tube mags, oddly enough. I suppose it's because they're mostly used for sports by rich people at this point. A Remington 870 Wingmaster (NOT the 870 Express, the quality is crap) or Mossberg 500/590A1, or an M1897 clone (there are some cheap Norinco ones if you're in canada) is the way to go for pump action.

It is more work to produce an o/u vs your typical pump, though. More machining, and possibly even hand fitting. Not just throwing together a box of stamped and injection molded parts.

Are those polymer coated bullets worth a shit? Or is it just another gimmick...
>>
>>30659582
.308/RFN is way cheaper than proprietary rounds and a gun you can't feed is just an expensive dildo.
>>
>>30659582
I didn't know about that caliber, pretty cool but unless you're hunting game in africa, I think it's overkill, I'd go for 308.

How would .30 Carbine rate for bear defense? My M1 seems ideal for hiking protection but I'd like to know how the cartridge would handle a bear
>>
>>30661231
Magdump and try to hit the head. Too weak to hunt bear with, but probably fine if you hit it a couple times.
>>
>>30639111
They aren't bad. Later models used a different recoil spring.assembly than the G.I. models though.

Not really a problem, just something to be aware of.

Yeah, I have the Howa 1500 Hogue in 30-06 and it's great. I've used Rem 700's and the Howa IMHO has smoother bolt action and a crisper trigger. 308 should be just as good, has an 'easier' shorter bolt pull length, and you can star wearing 'Real Fuckin NATO' t-shirts. Only thing I would do is replace the rail on top with traditional scope rings. The rail makes the scope sit a little too high for where my cheek naturally meets the stock. Nice thing is they use the Rem scope ring screw pattern, so any LGS should have them.
>>30659137
Yes, yes it is.
>>
>>30662122
Mine needs new screws since they told me the thing was sighted in factory so i threw it on my four wheeler and went up to a backwoods range in bumfuck northern Idaho and shot it and once i found the sweet spot, i was consistantly hitting the smaller plates they had at 400 yards. long story short, sight in your guns and make sure the screws are all tight or they will fall apart
>>

.30 carbine has a great penetration in 150 yards.

But you gotta be fast. Bears charge realy fast.
>>
>>30661231
Fine for black. Magdump, pray, and run away while reloading for grizzly.
>>
Complete fuckin' amateur to optics here.

Is there something like an introductory guide to optics that's easy for ignoramuses to understand?
What does it exactly mean to "zero" a scope?
My local Cabela's offers free zeroing services. How would that exactly work? I would think something like that would depend on how your own eyes work.

Aha, yup
>>
>>30662316
>What does it exactly mean to "zero" a scope?
It means that the center of the reticle is where the bullet actually goes when you pull the trigger. This requires adjusting the scope, usually.
>>
>>30662316

Zeroing a scope means adjusting the cross hairs to the point of impact.
>have a 1 moa scope
>shoot at a target 100 yards away 5 times
>your group was about an inch away from the bullseye
>adjust it one click
Don't use a bore laser because bullets drop

Are there some lesser known/cheaper semi auto 7.62 x 39 rifles? .308? 5.56?
Really just curious about cheaper alternatives to ak/m14/ar.

Right now I'm leaning toward an SKS, but I'm more interested in things I may be overlooking.

8mm hakim might be around $500
30.06 Remington 740 Woodsmasters are pretty cheap $200-$300, only 4 round mags though

is there a specific term for when a muzzle loading weapon with a powder pan and frizzen is filled and closed? The gun doesn't necessarily need to be loaded, just looking for a term when powder is occupying the pan. Is there even one?

Yeah, as a general rule you should always bench strip, clean and reassemble any newly acquired pew pew fun time freedom machines. Doing this has definitely helped me be generally more awesome in life at all levels.

>be me a few months ago on a pig hunting trip with a couple old school homie g's from college in the Heartlaaaaaaand of Caaalifornia... Staaaaater Broooooothers
>inb4 Cuckifornia fag get out, I already know it suc/k/s
>buddy has Rem 870 Wingmaster, I have poorfag 870 Express
>say 'Nice Wingmaster, broheim'
>he says 'Yeah, got it real cheap from a buddy but the damn thing jams all the time'
>lemme take a gander...
>proceed to bench strip the scatter gun in his garage, loading gate was slightly skewed to one side
>bend it back into position with my thumb, clean all parts and reassemble the boom stick
>load up the magazine and rack it a few times, cleanly throws shells in a beautiful rainbow of lead, copper and plastic
>says 'It's definitely never done that before, how'd you do that?!?'

What difference is there between a Browning BAR Mark II and a ShortTrac?

There's a site that's selling magazines for both of these rifles. As far as I can tell, they look the same & hold the same calibers, but there's a $2 difference between the magazines (the Mark II's magazines being the cheaper of the two).

Someone a little more mechanically inclined than me, here's the green text:

>be me
>tightening down the barrel nut
>do everything like I'm supposed to
>getting out the torque wrench
>hole for gas tube is already practically aligned
>tighten it a little
>it's more than hand tight
>spec says torque 30-80 lbs
>torque wrench only goes to down to 40

I-is it safe? D-do I need barrel shims, senpai? Barrel nut is an Aero BAR btw
>>
>>30663184
Nice. Also made me stumble upon the MAS 49, which is a little pricier, but pretty fuckin cool.
>>
>>30663502
If it says it should be 30-80, and you've done 40, then I don't see what's wrong here.

I'll say this now, but don't ever try to make your wrench go past 40 if that's its maximum.
>>
For rifles & pistols, what is the smallest caliber you'd be willing to reload? At what point does ammunition become so cheap that it's hardly worth reloading? Where do you personally draw the line?

No, my wrench only goes down to 40 lbs. It's less than that. The gas tube hole is aligned. Pic related is the nut. If I go any tighter, I would have to go a full 1/4 rotation, but I'm thinking that would be way too tight.

It's already more than hand tight, it's just not more than 40 lbs (the bottom setting on my torque wrench). Again, the spec is 30-80, so it could still be within spec. I'm going to call the manufacturer tomorrow to see if they'll send me some free shims.

Are pistol caliber carbines considered pistols or long guns in the US?
>>
>>30663188
primed
>>
>>30663188

It' would be either "prime" or "make ready" if you mean like what commands a Sergent would issue to a platoon in combat.
>>
>>30663546
there are also vz52s, ammo is rare as hell in their original chambering though, i only have 5 or 6 boxes.
>>
>>30664345
long guns
>>
>>30664345

If it has an overall length of at least 26 inches and a barrel length of at least 16 inches it's a rifle. A pistol is a firearm that can be fired with one hand and doesn't have a stock in us firearms law. Caliber doesn't matter unless it's greater than .50 cal and doesn't have a smooth bore, then it's a destructive device, if it doesn't have a "sporting purpose".

Tl:dr caliber doesn't come into play when it comes to rifles so pccs are rifles
>>
>>30664349
>>30664367

Thanks mates. I was just wondering what it would mean for a single muzzle loader to have powder in the pan, not a technical military term, but thanks for the extra knowledge.
>>
>>30663938
So you torqued it to 40 and everything lines up (including top rail on handguard)? No need for shims, you're in spec and good to go.
>>

Do I need a tax stamp for each configuration I want to change my rifle to?

In other words, if I want a full auto sbr with a supressor, dp I need 3 stamps or does one stamp cover everything?

that's why they are priced affordably in the first place, if there get to be too many you need consider reloading. or scrounge and never shoot like me.

Modern carriers have their AA mounted on Aegis cruisers and jets.
