Everyone likes to complain about Ruger because "OMG THE TRIGGERS ARE NO GUD!".

Well, duh.

You think Ruger doesn't KNOW their triggers are bad? Yeah. They do. It's called a "litigious society", kiddos. Ruger makes their triggers with ridiculous amounts of positive engagement with absurdly high trigger pulls in order to win or avoid lawsuits. Other companies are willing to risk the lawsuits to capture a greater market share.

But if you say you hate Ruger because of the triggers, you're really just saying that you don't have the intelligence/education to make the simple modifications that turn an excellent gun for the price into a PHENOMENAL gun for the price.

There's really no excuse for being that willfully ignorant, is there?

I just did this to my 10/22 fcg last night. Polished several other contact points as well, like the trigger reset pin, hammer face and end, bolt top, bottom, and sides, receiver, etc.

Really REALLY slicked up the action, improved the trigger pull, and made it a great little rifle. It's not even hard. Never had tried it before.
>>
I guess this thread is appropriate for my questions. I have a 10/22 and was wondering what would be a good red dot for it? Something in the $100 or so range.

Why? People here know their shit when it comes to rugers and he wants to know what optic a passerby recommends. Why is your tripcode on? You aren't storytiming or posting OC, I'm just curious why you want all the attention.

10/22 triggers are perfectly adequate for a squirrel gun / short-range plinker, which is what 90% of 10/22s are used as.

They're too heavy and too spongey for a target rifle, but it's not like it isn't a self-contained module that's super-easy to swap out
>>
>>30633061
Thank you for your amazing post

You're not going to get a good red dot for $100, learn to use your irons.
>>
>>30633236
>They're too heavy and too spongey for a target rifle...
That is only true if you're not smart enough to know how to properly stone and polish them
>...but it's not like it isn't a self-contained module that's super-easy to swap out
Which is also true if you're dumb enough to spend nearly as much on a new trigger as the rifle costs, and also too dumb to know how easy it is to modify your factory trigger to be just as good as the $200 aftermarket drop-ins with only some sandpaper, files, and Kentucky stones.
>>
>>30634567
> learn to use your irons.
Best post on /k/ in YEARS.
This this this, all of my this. Learn to shot your gun with the irons first, THEN get optics.

You'll be amazed how little you need the fancy scopes and gizmos, once you learn how to actually shoot.

Then why do people hate the new American 9mm, or whatever it's called
>>
>>30636645
I dont' know, why do people love the 10/22, GP100, AR556, Mk III, M77, LCP, LC9, Redhawk, Single Six, etc. etc. etc?

Can you answer that? Can you tell me why these (many) models have become iconic, beloved standards of American guns?

Oh, so it looks like you need to shut the fuck up then, doesn't it?
>>
>>30636645
Everyone that's actually used it likes it. The only pistol that had a crappy trigger was the original LCP, the rest of their line-up the triggers are considered a selling point over other manufacturers.

What I'm getting out of this thread is that /k/ is full of a bunch of guys who think they know how to work on guns because they can undo a screw or push out a pin.

It's like a whole generation who's shooting ability is tied to how much money they're able to save/willing to spend. No native knowledge, no actual ability. Just wage slave product whores.

Sad.

Took apart my working Remington .77 air rifle last night, I've had the thing since I was maybe 8 or so.
And I've taken it apart once before, and put it back together since then. But last night I destroyed a (practically useless) spring. And the safety is loose. "Trigger Job" is garbage.
And the thing wasn't meant to be taken apart, I just figured I'd check what was wrong since it was firing weaker than usual, but nope, made it all worse. Everything is fucked and I think I just might get a new gun this time. Maybe even another pellet rifle again. I've had pellet rifles before the Remington as well. So I could care less. Then maybe a repeater sometime later when I actually have money?

>Thoughts? I'm relatively new to /k/
>>
>>30644208
Seriously? Good for you for making the attempt.

You can probably Google the model # followed by "disassembly instructions", and someone somewhere has done a how-to.

As for your spring... pellet rifle springs are pretty basic. Is it something you can replace with a spring from a ball pen or an old taken-apart gadget?

You'd be amazed what you can accomplish with a little out-of-the-box thinking and some elbow grease.

Yes, I'm trying to shame people into learning some basic gun know-how instead of doing the boring bolt-on pay-to-play that it seems like 99% of young gun people do.

Why are you opposed to that? Are you gay?

I'm ready for Zed to leave again, taking his fuddlore and bullshit with him.

just a few of my [favorite] nuggets of [wisdom]:
>Ruger has shitty triggers to keep people from suing them
>A gun counts as not coming with a shitty trigger if you, or a gunsmith, does a trigger job on the gun after you bought it
>iron sights helps you shoot with an optic
All I think we're missing from this thread is his insistence that
>Your first gun should be a .22 because you'll never learn the basics if you start with a centerfire .223 knocking you around!
>hollow points are banned from civilian use in the Geneva Convention
and maybe one more...
>.22 is best zombie round because it bounces around, stuck in the skull, and scrambles the brains

Maybe we'll get a cameo from Leo so us "oldfags" can watch the circlejerk increase.
