DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHAMBER ANY AMMUNITION.

Check your firing pin head space immediately.

Pic related, should have gotten one with your rifle.

about 3/4 of the way down the page.
>>
>>30628153
>Did I fuck up?
no, its adjustable. you just risk a primer detonation when striping a round with the mag. which gets metal fragments in your hand. one anon has a shadow of the bolt etched into his palm from a cartridge detonation.
Or, it can pierce the primer, causing hot gas to blast back into your face.

in my picture of the tool, use the two center notches. the pin while the bolt is de-cocked should pass under one, and hit the other.

It's no big deal, it's just not safe to shoot until you get the head space fixed. You just unscrew until it lines up with the tool.
>>
>>30628185
So if I toggle the screw with like a flathead or something so that its flush with the rear of the bolt it should be fine?

Alright, found my kit.

in this image, the firing pin is decocked and should not be able to pass under this notch at 75. if it passes under this notch, than you risk light primer strikes, FTF, hangfires, ect.

here, the firing pin should freely pass beneath the notch at 95. if it is too long to fit beneath, than you risk a premature slam fire, punctured primers, hot gas in your face and a free russian stipple job to the palm of your hand.

Adjust the firing pin with a screw driver until it is within these parameters, and you will be good to go.

>>30628394
yeah, 250$ is normal for a nugget at this point in time. I got mine for 115-125 a bit before sandy vag.
>>
>>30628153
you dont need the tool if you have calipers. you can just measure how far it should protrude.

Its a '91 if its made before 1930. Dont call it a 91/30.
cool gun though but fuck you got robbed i bought mine for 120$ in February.
>>
>>30628394
Bought a 1940 izhevsk for 130 a few years back, a couple type 53s for 100 each that turned out to both be drill grade made from as many manufacturer's parts as there were manufacturers of nuggets.
for one potentially functional rifle you did better than I. You do need to measure the firing pin protrusion before you use it though.
>>
>>30628484
How far should it protrude in mm then? Because calipers are definitely a thing that can happen.
>>
>>30628563
>calipers
You should really have both honestly, a bolt tool is like nothing, indestructible and you can keep it in your shooting bag.
https://www.amazon.com/Mosin-Nagant-action-rifle-cleaning/dp/B001FKUL4E
But as suggested by the above images, protrusion should be >.75mm but <.95mm.
>>
>>30628153
Bring the bolt back to the shop, they should have a 90 day gunsmithing warranty on it. Better that than risk a cartridge detonation.
>>
>>30628502
You have no idea what you're talking about. The rear sight and front sight hood are clear as day signs that it is an m91/30 and not an m91.

Heaven forbid the Russians retrofit new sights to old rifles. Or hey it might even be a transitional model.
But if it was made in 1929, then it's an M91. Period.
>>
>>30630422
>>30628502
It's called an Ex-Dragoon, my rifle is a 1928 - they added the 91/30 sights to rifles that were originally "Dragoon" rifles, like M91s with the length of a 91/30.

Aren't those chambered in a different caliber?
>>
>>30631788
No, all the M39's are in the usual .311" 7.62x54r ammo.

There were some of the earlier M/27 and M/28-30 rifles that were chambered to a .308" projectile, but all M39's have were designed around the bigger projectile.
>>
I got lucky with my Mosin.

>1934 Hex
>Refurbished, was cleaned of cosmoline, except for the bolt
>All parts match except for the bolt
>good accuracy

I had to disassemble the bolt to clean it of cosmoline residue, but otherwise the rifle was in excellent condition.

Mine didn't come with a bayonet, so it might have been re-zeroed when it was refurbished.

Broke down and got one too. 1925 Tula with a hex receiver and matching numbers. I think it's refurbished.
The bayonet was a bitch to get off. Today I dissembled the gun and cleaned as much of the cosmoline off as I could using a hair drier, rags, and q-tips.

>>30628153
Use the multi-tool to check if the length is right. The second notch should connect and the third should pass over it. The 4th not can help you screw/unscrew the pin to get the length right.
