i did mine in windsor a 2 years ago
look on the rcmp website for the most recent books , they are free if you dont mind a pdf ..
for the written portion, its alot of common sense shit ( dont put a 3" shell in a 2" shotgun , know your target and whats beyond it , ect) , memorize the the maximum ranges, best carry positions, how to store transport

for the practical
Remember ACTS , PROVE , dont muzzle sweep or point at yourself, instructor, or anyone else

I would HIGHLY recommend doing both your restricted and non restricted at the same time. Its not that much extra work and will save you money and time if you choose to get it later

Thanks, my father was failed on his practical back in the 90's

>Fathers rifle was pointing 30 degrees to ground
>Instructor intentionally walks by
>Chews out father about how he just muzzle swept him and fails him for the day

Had to give up his guns when I was young when my Mother divorced because she lied to the police that he was planning on killing her.

>>
>>30608529
that sounds like a weird as fuck practical

when i did mine a couple years ago they took two people at a time to do their practicals, there was no point where there'd be a bunch of us standing around with guns during it or anything like that
>>
When I did the test, the practical was just clearing a couple guns, finding appropriate ammo by comparing headstamps, and explaining how I would cross a fence (didn't have to actually do it, just explain how I would).
Shit was super easy
>>
When picking up the ammo, read the headstamp and don't forget to read the sticker of the caliber that is supposed to go in the gun you need to load. The sticker should be on the barrel or near the action of the gun. That was how my instructors had the guns set up anyway.

Any Military here?

I am thinking about joining the Canadian forces at some point and just had a few questions.
>What branch is most decent
When I was younger I had dreams of being a fighter pilot in the Airforce but I honestly don't think I have the Autism nesessary to make it in flight school.

When I was younger I was in the Sea Cadets and they always told us about how Navy was the way to go. I didn't stay in until I was 18 so I lost my chance of the Naval perks associated with that (I should have stayed desu)

Army I hear is filled with trailer trash from Port Dover to Dartmouth. I am a very reserved, disciplined guy, feel I have the demenor for military, but I am pretty out of shape and got a shitty Nerve Disease (I pinch nerves easy and lose feeling in limbs) so the amount of activity required for Army would probably be my downfall.

There is Military Police which I hear is a pretty decent Job.

And Coast Guard, which I hear is also pretty good.

I wish Canada had a Marine Corps.
Anyone got insight into any of these?

>Aspiring Operator
I want to Operate. I think I have what it takes to at least try out training.

What I hear about JTF-2 is you need 2-3 years in forces to apply for the SF training and then it is a whole ballpark from there.

Do the Canadian Military Police have a Special Operations force similar to FBI SWAT?

Any insight would be appreciated. Serious answers would be appreciated.

You have to ask each time for an email copy, i've only had it once in 7 transfers where they've asked me.

I've posted before in this thread about my issue, its the 6+ months waiting for my RPAL renewal anon. It was suggested I call the ombudsmen of my province, BC, to get some help with my situation. The ombudsmen can not do anything with Federal government, but they suggested that I file a complaint with the Civilian Complaint Commission that investigates the RCMP and contact my local MP. I did both, the commissions returned my phone call and stated there is not much they can do with it, its technically not a complaint they can investigate, its just that I am waiting far longer than I should. My local MP has not gotten back to me but is fine.

I still have every reason to be paranoid and nervous about my case as I understand that 6+ months past your PAL expiration is in violation of law and would require to you go through the whole process again. But the fact that I am in violation of the law, they could put a 24hour noticed on me for an inspection and I am afraid of becoming a paper criminal when they do their search with a fine tooth comb. I do not want this, I just want what is, in my eyes, promised to me. I've had my RPAL previously for a number of years and I renewed my RPAL a month prior to expiration, so there should be no cause for concern. Like previous times.

Now I will be calling the CFO once again to inquire why it is taking so long. Is there any advice anyone can give me here with dealing directly to any CFO officers or if possible, another route to take.
>>
>>30609424
what does the cfo say when you ask them?

this is very strange, BC is one of the best provinces for this, I have two friends who got their renewals within a month.

Do they not explain themselves at all when you call in?
>>
>>30609503
Nope just that I have to wait. If I try to push the matter, the CFO is out of the office for the moment. If I ask again, there are others ahead of it and I will just have to wait. If I ask if there is anything they are waiting on, range membership, a photo or anything. They just say no, they have everything.

It's been like that every time I call. I can't call every day or every week with my work, so I do it once a month, in the middle of the month on a Wednesday. Like today.
>>
>>30608352

Totally legal to manufacture your own firearm for personal use (no gifts, no sales). This goes for machining as well as printing.

Don't manufacture anything prohibited and you're fine. If it's restricted, contact the RCMP BEFORE you start the build and register it.
>>
>>30608405

Completely viable.

>>30608421

In a completely hypothetical scenario fuelled by /k/ommando tears, in which major bans/restrictions are announced, what's the best way to keep my Restricteds. Just fake a burglary and hide them? Because like hell I'm giving up the guns I worked hard for.
>>
>>30609872
Boating accident.

>PVC pipe, end caps, 30w motor oil
>Dig hole
>Bury
>Plead the 5th
>>
>>30609917
I don't think that'd fly, especially for Restricteds. plus I'd hate to muck it up and have my guns rust away.
>>
>>30610030
>Rust
>In 30w oil

Well, I see you're smrt.
>>
>>30608609

My practical was 1 on 1 and very relaxed. BC here. Pick up the single action/glock/shotgun, prove it, what would you do if you came across a fence in the woods while carrying, don't point the gun at me or you fail, pick up the ammunition for the gun you're holding, stuff like that. Just pay attention and it's easy.

I was nervous and scored 100 on the written and the practical.
>>
>>30610070
No, I mean if I screw up the process and the oil leaks out or something. I dunno. I just figured that faking a burglary would be easier and less suspicious.
>>
>>30609424

the right to not self incriminate
>>
>>30610749
Honestly I have no idea, not mine. Just saw it in /arg/ awhile ago and figured the inscription was very relevant to the horror story above.
>>
>>30610750
I was under the assumption it isn't as strong as the 5th due to:

Section 13 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is a section of the Charter which, along with section 11 (c), specifies rights regarding self-incrimination.
It reads:
13. A witness who testifies in any proceedings has the right not to have any incriminating evidence so given used to incriminate that witness in any other proceedings, except in a prosecution for perjury or for the giving of contradictory evidence.
Rights against self-incrimination had existed in Canadian law even before the Charter, but these applied to cases in which an individual might incriminate him or herself while giving testimony in another person's trial. Since the enactment of the Charter, the right has been extended in case law in regard to retrials, to exclude from one's retrial self-incriminating evidence if it had been obtained during cross examination in the last trial.[1]
This section serves a similar purpose as the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution, but does not provide witnesses the same opportunity to excuse themselves from testifying.
>>
>>30610789
if i understand right, if your called as a witness any info you give incriminating yourself cannot be used against you. ie: i was snorting lines of coke of a lady of the night when i saw the accused shoot Mr.Guy.
But if you are accused, you have the ability to not take the stand at your trial.
>>
>>30610835
That is also my understanding. Makes sense in regards to perjury trials too. Although the word "other" is unclear to me.
...have any incriminating evidence so given used to incriminate that witness in any OTHER proceedings...

Does this mean that it can be used to incriminate the witness for the current proceedings?
So for our example if Mr Shooter was on trial for shooting Mr Guy and a third party, Mr Doe testifies with the example " ie: i was snorting lines of coke off a lady of the night when i saw the accused shoot Mr.Guy." that testimony would be inadmissible for trying Mr Doe with possession of controlled substance etc. However, if Mr Doe was being tried for possession in an unrelated scenario and he told the same story, that would be admissible and self incriminating. So Section 13 does not exempt you from testifying? Why you would testify against yourself I'm unsure, but just trying to wrap my head around all the legalese.
>>
>>30610987
that scenario sounds about right. i think it was meant to encourage witnesses and to testify. If the only way to put Mr.Shooter behind bars was to incriminate myself, maybe i wouldnt do it. With the law, i can 'incriminate' myself without fear of being charged

>disclaimer, this should not be taken as legal advice. Get a Lawyer for that

Remove all contraband from your house. No drugs anywhere, make sure there's nothing sketchy on USB drives laying around your house, encrypt all of your disks and secure delete any files that could land you in trouble. If you ever bought anything that may possibly have been stolen (far too cheap, bought it from a crackhead, etc) and could conceivably be identified (serial number, came with unusual stickers/markings) get rid of it. Don't take any chances.

Sometimes cops get frustrated when they think you did something bad but they have zero evidence, so they dig deep trying to nail you with ANYTHING. Tunnel vision happens in investigations, don't give them anything to work with and with any luck they'll find the real culprit and leave you alone.

If you're the guy from BC worried about not getting his PAL renewed, I wouldn't worry so much. You did you due diligence and can't really be charged with any degree of success. Put your guns in the care of someone you trust who is currently licensed if you're concerned, that way they can't be seized. Call in every day until you get your new card. Record the calls. If you get charged with some bullshit licensing offense, you can present the calls as evidence to prove that the RCMP created the offense through laziness and he'll throw the case out. If you're good at talking to police then you can avoid arrest and get a notice to appear instead. Looks better on your record.

.303 is the reason I started reloading. Once you get some brass, you can get it down to like 75 cents per round. $1.50-2.00 per round is the cheapest you'll find it from the factory though, maybe as low as $1.20 if you buy bulk but I think that's pretty rare.

I also heard Wolf was coming out with steel case .303 for like 80 cents per round, but I have yet to hear anything on that. Could have just been a rumour.

Technically true.

Different cultures have introduced innovative methods to living.

Indians invented designated shitting streets. Now you can save money from all that toilet paper you're not buying, plus you're not flushing your savings down the toilet. Who needs running water in your own home, when the streets are free?

All joking aside, I've heard that a small minority of brown people in Ontario actually do shit in public.

No idea if it was Brampton, but a few years ago on /a/, some guy claiming to be from Ontario said he personally witnessed three Pakistani men pulling down their pants and casually shooting the shit with each other, while they were literally shooting the shit with each other.

I know it seems farfetched, and I know that there was no evidence to support this, but for some strange reason, I am willing to take /a/non's word for it.

BC is generally one of the faster provinces to get your license. Once you confirmed that they have received and started to process your info, you can call in and do interview and get reference number to have your references call in. Makes it way faster.

He didn't mean "hey guy, don't be retarded, make sure you have a reason to buy the knife.
Those were essentially bullet points.

As a fellow Ontarianon, I can tell you that if you can get it, it is probably legal.
And if it isn't legal, as long as you
A) don't act like a retard, and
B) if a cop is like "why do you have a knife?" say boxes or whatever. Don't say "IDS MAI EDC IN CASE OF NIGGERS!" Saying you carry a knife to defend yourself is just asking for the cops to examine you further.
Then it will be fine.

Sauce: I carry 2 knives all the damn time (one in my coat, one in my pants, because I usually check my jacket when out places.) And am FAIRLY sure both are illegal. I use them for everything and nobody has ever said anything. This has been my habit for like, 10 years now.
One (jacket knife) is really long, and the pants knife is a switchblade.

Actually, I feel like I gotta say something here. I've lurked on 4chan for a literal decade, so I realize this is not the place, but since this IS a Canada thread, what the hey.

I work with a shitload of immigrants. And I have learned there are 3 MAJOR distinctions one has to make before going full-on racist.

1) Pakistani/Indian/etc. Vs. Sikh.
We all know this one already. Sikhs I meet never smell like fucking curry, they're always super polite, and generally cool guys with good hygeine.

2) Mainland Chinese vs. Hong Kong.
Mostly these 2 seem to hate each other. Mainland Chinese think they're better than you, while being dickheads. Hong Kong Chinese are pretty cool if you are white, but insanely racist towards everyone else.

3) American/island Black vs. SOME African.
I don't get why assholes like BLM think they have any argument in Canada. We didn't deal in slaves. We freed them, for fucks sake! And when caribbean folks show up with that same entitlement complex? It's doubly retarded.
That said, I have never met anyone from Ethiopia, S.Africa, and several other countries who weren't great guys.

Woah you got me there. Unlike other HKers, i try not to be racist or see things in absolutes as skin colour/ethnic origins/culture etc. doesn't change the fact that you're an asshole.

Same applies for gun ownership where it's not us vs. them as most of gun owners put it at.

As for how HKers vs Mainland Chineres, you've hit the nail on the head pretty much. But on the most part, we just ignore each other due to the political/cultural animosity back home even though we live in close proximity to each other.

But hey, If you're from an earlier immigration wave (mid 90's for me) you just don't care that much since you don't know what's going on back home.

As a law-abiding Canadian gun owner, what incentive is there in choosing to buy a "high capacity" magazine versus a magazine of a lower capacity, when the firearm in question in a semi-automatic non-restricted centerfire rifle?

For the purposes of my question, let's imagine a rifle. This imaginary rifle is a semi-automatic non-restricted centerfire.

The only magazines you can buy for it are 5-round magazines, or 5/20 magazines. In other words, a magazine that only holds 5 rounds to begin with, or a 20-round magazine that has been artificially reduced to hold 5.

What incentive is there in choosing the latter over the former?

>in b4 "you can illegally modify it for high-capacity fun"
As a law-abiding citizen, what LEGAL incentive is there in owning a 5/20 mag? Assuming you plan on only ever shooting 5 rounds out of this rifle, what would motivate you into buying a 5/20, versus just a 5/5?

The only reason I can think of is if the 5/20 is less expensive than the 5-rounder. That is literally the only reason I can think of.

What other reasons can you think of? I'm just thinking, if you don't plan on breaking the law, wouldn't a 5-rounder be more efficient? It's smaller and lighter, so you'll have less dead weight/space to carry to the range.

My question isn't intended to be political in any way, shape or form. This is legitimate curiosity based on practicality, economics, and ergonomics.

3) and this is the most important, because it is also the motivation for me to own restricteds, but if a time ever came when law broke down, such as civil unrest, invasion by foreign power, or full-blown fallout post-apoc, then I would no longer give a fuck about the law, and would be in possession of handuns, AR15s, and high cap mags.

When the time comes do you think that person and all the people that person knows are willing to do howevermany years those guns are in your place?

Why even take that risk? And I hope you didn't fucking post this from your own IP address.

>people didn't vote Obama just because he's black

You're right, 'people' didn't. I think you're a bit naive regarding 'human' stupidity.
>>
>>30626021

People had grown tired of Bush. Either party having three terms is exceedingly fucking rare. Romney had negative charisma, he sucked the life out of a room just like Jeb. Obama was youthful, energetic, and promised "Hope" and "Change" which got young people fired up... like Bernie.

Now I think he's a fucking shitbag liar but it's naive to say people voted for him just because he was black.

There are no ontario laws on knives

There are federal laws and maybe bylaws in a few towns. The only bylaw I've heard of for knives is Calgary, which prohibits fixed blade knives worn openly for some gay reason. Clearly Calgary is the world capital for gay cowboys.

If you carry a knife as a weapon it must not be concealed. if your knife has any utility purpose you have a good argument that it's not a weapon. I carry a 6.5" fixed blade everywhere and have never had a problem. I've been carrying a knife since grade school. Sometimes I carry IWB, sometimes openly on a belt. I actually do use it to open boxes, cook, eat, etc so nobody can deny that it's a utility knife or claim it's carried for an unlawful purpose. Nobody seems to bat an eye when I pull it out for stuff, but I do tons of weird shit and people are just used to it. For me, carrying a knife is a personal religious practice, and a handy way to open beer bottles.

Folding knives for some reason attract less attention. You won't get in trouble for carrying a folding knife unless you're a huge retard.

You left out the 3rd category: loophole magazines.

10-20 rounds in a centerfire rifle and fully legal.
>>
>>30626046
there are multiple people who have stated they voted for Obama because he is black. in a country as big as america you always find some idiot that will proudly tell you about that one idiotic thing he did that nobody thinks anyone would actually do

his competition wasn't really that great though. it's safe to say that he won based on the strength of his campaign and his engaging speeches, not just because of being a half-nig.

Aesthetics. 90% of any firearm purchase is aestheics. Furthermore, the world is a large one, and you're training to become proficient with a firearm, it's unlikely you'll be using tiny bitch magazines in any other country than this one. You would need to train all over with full-capacity (not high-capacity, these are the magazines the firearm is designed to use) magazines.

Additionally, this is a biased question designed to generate only politically unappealing answers. It assumes that a) Canadian law is just, b) Canadian law must be followed and c) Canadian law will always be followed. None of which is true.

If at least two persons voted for Obama because he was black then people voted for Obama because he was black.

You can own most knives that are not auto opening or gravity assist (or push knives). Concealing it is a gray area and case law varies wildly (are you concealing a weapon or a tool?).

>Additionally, this is a biased question designed to generate only politically unappealing answers. It assumes that a) Canadian law is just, b) Canadian law must be followed and c) Canadian law will always be followed. None of which is true.
if that's true, then the question failed.

what would be the benefit of a biased question?

whether Canadian law is just is irrelevant. most laws are unjust put it doesn't reduce the punishment.

the law must be followed unless you want to deal with the hassle of hiding all the lawbreaking you do, which is not to be underestimated. it's not always practical to break the law

Canadian law won't always be followed, and the question doesn't assume that. it's just asking for reasons why someone might prefer a neutered magazine to a small magazine, which is a good question for a gun owner or prospective gun owner to ask. "why would I buy x instead of y?"
>>
>>30626488
>what would be the benefit of a biased question?

Rigging the answers, obviously. Holy shit.

The question was about generating a valid reason to have a(big mags), when c(size restrictions) and d(canadian government) are in place. The reasons given are poor because of these unreasonable and limiting clauses which, coincidentally, are assumed to be just and infallible to lawmakers, the people who would benefit from outright banning full-sized magaines, and also this biased question.

I'm not explaining it properly but you're a fucking asshole and the tone conditions of your question makes a half-assed political excuse for banning full-sized magaines.

Oh, we banned this and that, so why do you need the other thing? Hunting is the only VALID AND LEGAL excuse for owning a firearm, so why do you need a semi-automatic with big, scary magazines? Lmao, no TRUE hunter needs 5 rounds to kill a deer. Nevermind the valid reasons we don't find kosher.

Don't include me in your school paper or whatever, I'm too dumb to explain myself. Eugh.

Exactly! As long as the magazine was originally designed for use in a bolt or lever action, magazine size is unlimited. How it gets used is irrelevant; stick it in a bolt action, stick it in a semi auto, stick it in a friend's asshole. Example, Archangel AA700, 20 rounds of 7.62x51mm/.308Win, designed for use in a Remington 700 bolt action rifle, fits an M14.

Does the bolt lock back on the m14 with these mags?

>i don't like your tone, so you're an asshole
are you going to cry?

>conditions of your question makes a half-assed political excuse for banning full-sized magaines.
it's not my question, and I don't see how the question excuses the ban. it's just asking what the worth of a neutered magazine is if someone is going to comply with the ban, which a lot of gun owners do for fear of being caught. and guess what? all the answers were describing perfectly legal reasons why someone might prefer the neutered magazine to a small-capacity magazines. it goes without saying that the full capacity magazine is best. there is no excuse for banning magazines of any capacity

I hemmed and hawed about buying a black rifle for quite some time, because I thought it would be wasteful to pay 3 to 4 times as much on a rifle that would be no shootier than my SKS. I went and bought one anyway because I believe we can change the law and there will be a big day of celebration where the sound of pins being popped are heard all over Canada. In the mean time I have pistol magazines and a dream that someone will import that lot of .50 Beowulf pistols waiting on the US side of the border. if I had the money I'd do it myself.

>some weird fudd rant about hunting that may or may not be sarcastic
I only hunt with shotguns. The rifles and handguns are for target shooting and home defense. Nothing illegal about that, no matter what the fudds on CGN say. That said, it would be cool to put a drum magazine on a 7mm magnum hunting rifle and pose with the kill. excellent photo for showing to fudds that say you can't hunt with a large capacity magazine

if you're having such trouble explaining yourself, have you considered that you might also be having problems understanding other people and what they mean?

>school paper
are you okay?

My friend goes on Reddit and some of them who've been in a less dramatic situation said they got their R/PAL within 2-3 years. I think I'll probably have to wait until 2019 until the fucking CFO approves it.

Pretty sure this is due to an actual city bylaw being passed preventing ranges within city limits.

I've been given shit for carrying a fucking multitool before.

I did mine three weeks ago. if you download the manual you will see. The instructor will just go over almost everything in it for like 4 hours then teach you how to handle the firearms. We were given around an hour to handle like 8 different firearms to practice safe handling, ACT/PROVE, ect. Then we did the written test which was very easy. Finally we did one on one practical which is outlined in OP's pastebin. You will be taught everything you need to know and more.
