I have a gorgeous M96 Swedish for sale and I found a buyer quickly for the asking price but the fucker blurted out that he is about to sporterize this all matching walnut beauty.
>No way Jose you're not getting it
Do you guys feel that it's our duty to guard fine surplus against wanton destruction and fudding? Before you call me autist think about it for a fucking second. There are plenty of modern options out there, but Swedish arsenals are depleted, Swiss arsenals are prohibited to export to the US, and most other choice arsenals are bone dry. For all practical purposes days of abundant surplus are behind us, what's here is here and I'm not letting this fall into the enemy's (fudd's) hands
>>
>>30603072
I don't think that it's as much as /k/ hating sporterized milsurp, we just hate shitty sporterizing jobs, irreversable bubbaing to pristine collectors firearms, and bubba putting $200 worth of shit on his $300 Norinco SKS and selling it on armslist for $600
>>
>>30603120
It doesn't bother you that the artifacts of the days long gone are irreversibly changed? Cmon man
>>
What I don't get is why anyone in this day and age would choose to sporterized an intact milsurp rifle, rather than working on one of the thousands and thousands of already bubba'ed 'surps out there, and making something good out of them. Would be cheaper, too.
>>
>>30603131
Not my guns, they can do whatever they want with them.

Also, there's something magical about sporterizing. It's like watching an old war veteran settling down into civilian life getting ready to live out the rest of their days in relative peace.
>>
>>30603072
>Yes, we must protect history from the ignorant masses.

Dumb cheap low life's have ruined countless unreplaceable gems. Cling to your milsurp gentlemen. You are the resistance.
>>
If I had a perfect condition Mosin-Nagant complete with removable bayonet, never fired, bolt never racked, beautiful wood finish... It'd be my safe queen. On the other hand, if I picked up a beater Nugget with 2,500 rounds through it already I'd add another 3,000. Throw it in the back of the truck, toss it in the mud, etc. Depends on the gun really.
>>
>>30603140
>>30603147
Thank you gents. Glad there's more of us here. it's not butchering these old workhorses for 30 silver coins
>>
I sold off all of my milsurp (17 rifles) and I made sure that the people who bought them were genuine collectors who were going to appreciate them. I ask them if they collect military surplus and get info on what they collect, and if they're collectors then I know they'll be alright, but if i get the slightest hint that they're not genuine about collecting the gun I stop responding to their emails.

I had someone wanting to buy my Finnish M28 locally but he eventually started talking about how he knew they were some of the most accurate Mosins and wanted to make a really accurate deer rifle with cheap surplus ammo. I stopped responding to him and eventually found a guy who bought nearly $1500 worth of my Finnish rifles and accessories at once and he was really cool and a genuine collector.
>>
>>30603170
Well yea, run of the mill beat to shit mosin is not in the same league as a swede it Swiss k31, or even yugo m48. Mosin is a cheap Russian whore that likes to take in the ass and then suck you off and lick it clean.
>>
>>30603141
If you consider living your life without legs to be peaceful, sure
>>
>>30603170
>perfect condition Mosin-Nagant complete with removable bayonet, never fired, bolt never racked,
Literally does not exist.
>>
>>30603072
I cherish my milsurp partly because of their historical value,

They're my favorite guns as well. Nothing quite like an old bolt-action.

Savage fucking axis costs 300$ at Walmart. Why can't these bastards just fuck off and leave milsurp alone. I won't lie, i've got scout mounts on all my milsurp that will allow it. However, i can take those on and off without ass fucking heritage and history.

There's a lot of talk about shtf plans. I'll be defending my Library and historical relics with my life and limb.

Have you ever held someone's broken body in your arms? Knowing that they will never have the future they always wanted? Knowing they will be pitied for the rest of their life? Crying, and wishing that you had found them earlier to save them from the horrible fate?

I have.
>>
I have many ww2 rifles I collect during election times. Many retards selling heirlooms to buy ar-15s.
>>
>>30603225
This. Fuck the fudds, they can all go burn in hell for all I care. You're not touching my perfect fusions of wood and metal. Go get a fucking savage or any number of fuddable modern production rifles
>>
>>30603147
A few months back I saved a remmington 1903a3 from being sporterized. All I had to do was trade him a everyday RIA 1911. Best trade ever.

Viva la resistance

I would never bubba any of them.

Picrelated is a Colombian/Israeli hybrid rifle, IDK what it's deal is but it was not import marked. Yet it bears British proof stamps.

I was considering sporterizing it myself, but couldn't find anything on it online. Its not a run of the mill M48
>>
>>30603389
Interesting. But it's not M48 what did you mean by that? Did you mean that m48 are ok to be sporterized?

>>30603245
I didn't come here for this..
>>
>>30603422
I mean that M48s are more common, I wouldn't feel as guilty. By sporterize I meant get a plastic stock for preservation of the wood and drop a non-perm scope mount on.

From what research I did on my rifle, it looks like a early 'sporter' of it's own time, advertised as a .308 mauser. The stock's forend leads me to believe it was taken from some other Mauser pattern and refitted for a k98; it has spring band holes in the stock like a mosin does, but the k98 single clip spring.
>>
>>30603458
DO NOT SPORTERIZE M48. let's all be lucky that yugos took such fine care of those mausers. Here's an idea why don't people just buy commercial Mausers or Winchester 70/rem 700 it they want Mauser action?
>>
>>30603491
True. But I was thinking nothing permanent, at most making a replica marksman Mauser for shits. I saw one at a gun show, the receiver was dovetailed for a mount. It would have to be done quite carefully if I were to go a head and scope a mauser semi-conventionally
>>
>>30603245
I too know this feel.
>>
>>30603525
Eh I guess I can't shit on you too much since I have a connection in Bosnia who can sell me original Zrak mount and optic for little, but I still can't bring myself to drill through receiver and to bend the bolt
>>

Ideally? German k98 in good shape or the Swiss K31. Sadly any bolt action milsurp is a bitch to find in south Texas.

>>

Apparently if you know where to look.
>>
>>30603716
No you didn't anon. BOLT always has to match with the receiver and the barrel, that's like sine qua non of a functional firearm
>>
>>30603716
I don't know anymore.

I bought my m95 4 years ago for $110 and it came with 300 rounds of ammo.
And I thought I spent too much.

I refused to sell a run of the mill, but in extremely good condition, M44 one time.

The guy said that he was going to chop the barrel, drill and tap, change out almost everything he could, for a hunting trip.

I asked him why would he want to chop up a nugget that I am selling for more than cheap hunter rifles that are much more accurate. Dude said he just wanted a nugget. I think it was becuase he was Russian, so he wanted a Russian gun. I told him, very politely, that I didn't want a gun in near perfect condition to get chopped up and refused to sell.

They dude REALLY, wanted it and kept calling and PMing me online. I kept saying no and told him to not tell people what you plan to do, as some people, especially those who sell guns that are in good to excellent condition and priced above market value, will be reluctant to sell what they might consider a "collector" piece. I don't know if that nugget could be called a collector, but it was nice enough for me to not want to sell it.

I ended up holding on to that nugget since I was able to sell a beat to shit SKS for much higher than I though I would (I priced it 400 when the market value was 200-250. Met up with a very stoic slav, he looked at it for half an hour, paid cash no questions and left)
>>
I have a feeling whoever originally did this didn't know what the fuck gun they had.

Really, who the fuck does this to a Howa M1 carbine of all things? Granted, this just seems to be a case of spray painting and putting on incorrect shit. The description claims that it is nickeled, but the other photos seems to show otherwise.

This is what could happen when people make the assumption that something is useless or common, so it doesn't matter if just one more is bubba'd.

Look anon it's not a day /k/are so ill break it down for you. Often times sporterizing involves bending the bolt in order to mount the scope for which you need to drill the receiver. Some want to free float the barrel and then they cut the stock. Some rechamber the barrel etc etc.
not every 'sporterizing' involves a SKS in an archangel fucking stock

Repurposing of military arms for the civilian market, usually turning it into a hunting rifle. This can include chopping the barrel, bending the bolt, drilling scope mounts into the receiver, stock changes, ext.
>>
>>30604363
Why would they chop the barrel?
>>
>>30604368
Some older rifles like the m91 had long barrels by today's standards (29in). A lot of early 1900's rifles would later be replaced by shorter barrel versions of the same gun.
>>
>>30603072
i would refuse but then again i dont sell my milsurp rifles. honestly, why not ask him why he wants an original rifle to fuck up when he can buy a savage axis with everything he wants for $400
>>
>>30603170
My Mosin ended up being a refurbished one by Molot.

They basically cleaned off the cosmoline, and designated it as a hunting rifle to comply with Russian gun laws.

All the parts on it match except for the bolt (which has an electro pencil SN). It explains why there was some cosmoline residue on the bolt, which I removed when I disassembled and cleaned it.

I only paid $200 for it, so not a bad deal.
>>
I don't cherish my surplus much at all, because my Type 53 is garbage and I still haven't managed to get rid of the rust in my SMLE's chamber that's stopping it from ejecting.
>>
this thread makes me want to bubba the shit out of something just to piss off the autists that think their 1 out of 1,000,000 identical rifles is somehow historic.

you faggots should be encouraging it so your unmolested shit is worth more. duh. buncha drooling mouth breathers in here.
>>
>>30603072

>>
>>30605385
except we're talking about rifles of which there are only a few thousand of in the US retard. I don't care much if someone molests a 91/30, just seems stupid to me when you can buy a brand new sporter for the same price.
